I'm crying. This is the way the song is supposed to sound and its been years since we've heard it like this. DMB needs a fiddler.

@@bkm_f30 ha, what’s funny is that I felt that way when butch started touring with them in 2000 lol. It was kind of weird to hear keys on songs for the first time after years without them lol

I will add to the already overwhelming sentiment……this was incredible and it’s painfully obvious. The band is smiling and the crowd is engaged and most likely in awe at this moment. While most of us understand that bands evolve and I myself have to understand that Crash, UTTAD, and BTCS were albums made many years ago, I think it’s important to also realize what type of DMB music we all fell in love with years ago. It’s almost nostalgic to hear this violin solo as it’s been missing for far too long. It says a lot that DMB had been so successful for so many years. Evolution of bands is important. But just this one song on a fun night completely demonstrates what is necessary, or very important, for the band and the fans. I’m ok saying I love the “earlier” DMB albums because I also understand and respect the evolution of the band over the years. Obviously Leroi’s passing was tremendously difficult for numerous reasons and I think the band did the best they could in a very difficult time. I hope anyone who reads this understands I’m just giving an opinion…..I’m just sharing one long time fan’s perspective. I love DMB. I love the violin component. I think the band felt 20 years younger and were full of joy during this wonderful solo. In a perfect world; I’d be able to see DMB on tour with a fantastic violinist to take me back to my favorite sounds of the band. I certainly do appreciate their longevity and how they continue to evolve. This is not a critique of them at all. I love this band. Please bring in a violinist that can have this type of impact. Imagine the energy and love from the band and the fans……this was a beautiful version of a song that takes me back. Love it. Take care everyone.

What do you mean? Boyd wrote that solo.
@spinblackcircles
@spinblackcircles 10 ай бұрын
@@trisin lol what? Boyd improvised the solo in that song every time they ever played it. He would change it around but it was essentially the same 4 or 5 ideas over and over for 20 years, and he didn’t ‘write’ a solo for it. That would imply he played the exact same solo or close to it for his whole career, and he definitely didn’t. All he was doing was essentially following the chord progression that Dave wrote. Not to mention this performance is way different than anything Boyd ever played, like I said in my first comment
@user-kd8iy8bn7h

@@spinblackcirclesyou serious man? Everyone wants to trash Boyd. He still had to write/come up with/interrelate the violin into these songs. The band is NOT the same without violin period. No one trashed Boyd when he was in the band. Now people enjoy it. Lie in Our Graves, The Stone, Cry Freedon etc. I could go on and on, those songs are NOT the same without Boyd and a violin
@user-kd8iy8bn7h

The dude still had to come up with these violin parts. People who say “a high school violin teacher could play these parts”. Well, you still have to come up with them. There are more technically gifted guitarists than Keith Richard’s, but do people bash his contributions?

Ok. Did you ever stop to think that maybe they aren't friends anymore? It happens. Boyd was completely checked out by the end of 2016. We're lucky to still have them. I don't think they'd still be performing if Boyd was there. They've been a lot happier since he's been gone. That being said, they loved Ann Marie Simpson's solo. If they don't hire her, this may be the moment Dave realizes that they need the violin back. If they don't bring her on full time, Dave will find someone else. But it won't be Boyd.

Boyd made his choices... now the consequences. Plus, she blew Boyd away. He had very limited 'jam' and creative moments. She nailed it, but is also way beyond his skill level. Boyd was good for a time, but its past time to move on and get someone else in there.
