This is amazing. I am self taught and jumped real fast into multi-angle shots. I would spend SIGNIFICANT amounts of time nudging several video clip angles to sync up my clips to main audio, and even when it “sounded” right to my ear, I’d find problems. And all this before I could start making cuts between angles. With each angle clip stacked, I’m constantly turning them off and on, or even temporarily changing transparencies, before I decided where to make a cut to switch angles. Extremely tedious and time consuming, as you can imagine. A labor of love, of course, but this will make my time lines sooooo much cleaner and easier to sync and edit between angles than I ever imagined. You have just shaved hours and hours off my multi-angle projects. Bless you, sir!

One year to the day that you made this, and I had created a vid with two cameras. Believe it or not... I didn't understand about Multicam. I was going to just place each clip in the timeline, and then manually cut them (I'm a relative beginner). I was doing that when I noticed that the audio was not synced. I did a search to find out how to sync the audio... by following links about syncing, I fell upon this video of Multicam and realized that Multicam-ing is actually what I should be doing. Using the info from this video has opened up my [editing] world, in terms of what I realize I can do now with my project. This is super easier than what I was about to do with the edit, serves my purpose better, and will save me loads of time. I subscribed. Let's see what else you've got... :P

Hey Tom - cool video! Any idea if you can select compound clips for multicam editing? Create multicam clip is greyed out for me when I have one selected.. any idea of a workaround? tx
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brendan! I don't think you can create multicam clips with compound clips since the compound clips still contain the original clips that were merged. You could export a compound clip and then import that file to use as a multicam clip.

I'm really grateful that you did this and hope you can help. I've watched yours and four other tutorials, read the manual, and can't get past this - I create the multi-cam angle exactly as you describe, drag it to the project, and see both camera angles in the viewer fine. However I never see the blade no matter what I do and cannot get it to change between the angles. Assuming I'm missing something simple. Can you or anyone else here help? Mahalo! (thanks)
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
If you’re working with two angles, you should be able to switch between them simply by pressing 1 and 2 on your keyboard. You should also be able to bring up the blade by pressing B. If that’s not working, it would be a bug in Final Cut, which sometimes is resolved by restarting the computer. If that’s STILL doesn’t work, Apple support has a live chat option that’s pretty helpful, and I’m sure they can walk you through a diagnosis. It’s time consuming, but usually effective. Good luck!
@KeolaDonaghy4 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thanks so much. I can select the blade manually or with "B" when the cursor is over the timeline. When I am over the two angles in the angle viewer, I just get a beep when I either click on either of the two views and same when I press 1 or 2. Restart didn't help - that's been my first "go-to" move since I got my first Mac in 86. I do appreciate the help and will try their live chat option - one thing I've never done before. Aloha!
@KeolaDonaghy4 жыл бұрын
Edit - I figured it out. The angle editor was open, and I could not figure out how to close it. Apparently what that is open you cannot do the cuts. I had to go back and double click on the project file and was then able to see the blade. Mahalo again!

There is also a window on the right where if you later change your mind about a cut, your options show. Do you recall how to bring that window forward? Thank you.
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Is that not just the normal Inspector? You can click the little button with three lines towards the top right to bring it up.
@IreneYoungFoto4 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thanks. Not the same inspector you showed. It is a place you can toggle the angle listed by words, not clips. Let's say you have finished a project. But your client asked to change a view. You used to be able to click the clip and look right and toggle to another view. You could also select the audio tracks and could use more than one. For example, when I shoot live concerts, I want the applause from the house added to the audio file from the sound board. Bummer I forgot how to get that window. Maybe they stopped it. If I find out, I will let you know. Nice Multicam shoot you did! Fun to have great angles.

Now that you are using ATEM Mini would you ever consider doing a multicam video composition as you have done here. In other words do you now consider multicam nearly obsolete (or at least in terms of your production abilities) and would mostly be using the ATEM Mini instead. Thanks for doing and sharing your work. Your being a teacher really comes all you do. Very helpful.
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I still use both techniques- I figure all tools have their place. The ATEM is terrific if you or someone else is available to switch the angles, but multicam like this is great if you're a one person crew and aren't able to switch angles while filming. 👍

Great video! Thank you. Quick question. I want to do a multi cam video of my band in a recording studio where the audio will be from the studio mix and not the cameras. Is that still easy to sync up all the different videos with the new audio track?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
If the final mix you're using as the audio source is "live" (meaning it's the audio that was recorded at the same time the cameras were rolling), then yes, it should sync up fine. If it's a more edited/polished final mix that you're looking to combine with footage of each band member playing, then you'll probably just have to do it the old school way of syncing each clip/cut manually. Good luck!
