the 2 screws that are supposed to hold the tool in place are the last rubbish ...... you can tighten the pipe wrench, and the pick still wobbles like a cow's tail .... afterwards I wound half a meter of desolder wick around the screws .... now it is ok! if you don't have that stuff at home, you can alternatively use a 50 € bill .... also working!

Now then my old friend, hope you and all are well. I am wanting one of these for easy carry at work for picking instead of taking my full picking kit. I have seen one on Amazon for about £40, do you think it will come with extra pick tips or should I order the one in your link? I know these types of picking tools are for your average type locks and not high security, but most on the spot picking at work are odd padlocks and basic euros etc. Look forward to your reply so can order one Rich

I've got one of these too. I bought it as an EDC set. Unfortunately I lost the little knurled tension screw. I used the included loop to hang it from the tag inside my coat and one day I noticed that the screw had disappeared. Fortunately Multipick sells replacement crews so it can be replaced. It's nice to have the option to buy replacement parts like that. I haven't bothered replacing it yet though because you introduced me to that SouthOrd pocket pen set and I actually like that better than the jackknife. The pen set is more comfortable to use and its easier to carry a larger selection of pick tips.
@LockNoob5 жыл бұрын
I have the Southord one ready to review in the next week to two :-)

@@LockNoob Oh nice! When I was on SouthOrd's site the other week ordering the pen set, I noticed SouthOrd promoting their new version of the jackknife. I'm curious about the similarities and differences between SouthOrd and Multipick's versions. They look quite similar. I look forward to seeing your review.

I've looked at these type of lock pit kits but I think for everyday carry then it would have to be the pen set you featured recently or even the credit card set purely as they are more convenient for carrying. That said, this is Multipick so there can be no grumble about quality or craftsmanship. Good review 👍🏼

Not surprised that it’s well designed being a multipick product. Happy with .20 as a thickness too as that’s typically my go to width as almost exclusively pick Euro cylinders. Not sure about the broken key extractor being pre-installed. Not a tool a hobbyist or first responder would really be reaching for. Probably would have switched that out for that reinforced triple peak instead, otherwise not a bad standard selection. Braided cable is a nice touch. Gives you a bit of confidence is attaching it to a carabiner for ease of access and retention. On the whole, agree it’d make a nice gift for any emergency first responders or military personnel as a handy alternative to destructive entry.

This is by far the best lockpick jackkife I have! Extremely light and smooth. It is easy in the hand and you can use the picks you want in your order. I've just ordered a second one from multipick (I have other lock pick jackknives, but this jackknife is so much better:-).
@parapicktog77344 жыл бұрын
I have a few sets like that, but I modified mine. Southord sells replacement picks for jackknife sets (a larger selection than multipick has) so i chose my own set of 6 picks and I filed my tensioner so it tapers but I like that stepped one. I also found the thumb screw loosening while in use, so I cut a screwdriver slot in it, and use the tensioner as a screwdriver to tighten it. I also like how that set comes apart, mine uses a pin I had to punch out then press back in after changing pick sets.

This is a great edc set. However I would recommend carrying it in some sort of pocket organizer. Having them hanging around on you keychain or just loosly in your pocket will temper with the screw. It will get looser and picks might come out. Since I've put it in a little organizer this has never occured to me however and made me love it more.

I've got the red variant (with extra picks included). The broken key extractor didn't survive its first use. The tension tool isn't my prefered tensioner, but other than that: great jack-knife set. I've got it loaded with the L- and snake rake, the half diamond, short hook, dental 1 and offset hybrid (or dental2 in their catalogue). Most locks I've been picking can be picked with pickshapes like these.

Why not have a second on-board tension wrench, which doubles as a pocket-clip? And if the allen screw was a flathead screw instead, you could just undo it with a tension wrench.

This is a great reviewt. Jack knife picks are always a compromise (unless they are the size of a Swiss Champ XLT (look it up) but these compromises are particularly well thought out, especially the locking system, and the extra blades. I would consider carrying those in a credit card sleeve in my wallet. I like your choices of pick tips. I might consider adding a short bend TOK tension wrench under the factory one, laid on top of the closed picks. Thoughts?

Multipick simply don't disappoint. They produce quality tools, yes you need to pay for that quality but it's worth it. I almost totally agree with your choice except I may have chosen the half ball deforest as opposed to the half diamond deforest. Although I don't think they are neither here nor there in difference. So I guess the Multipick Jacknife doesn't suffer from the pick you are using working its way loose as most other jacknife makes?

Great video as usual! I own a couple of Jackknifes, the cheap H&H that I keep in my bag for emergencies and the more expensive Madbob jackknife and sleeping bag. To be honest I have got in more locks with the cheaper H&H version than I have using Madbobs Jackknife, I can't get the feedback from Madbobs that I need or I'm doing something wrong! I think that I will purchase a multipick knife to see how they all compare. I do use the multipick electric pick gun, great quality, but I need to master that as well!

Apologies for the length of this comment, but I wanted to lay out a comparison of this set to the one I have. I bought a jackknife-type set that looks exactly like this and all of the others, back when I made my very first lock pick purchase, which included the also famous clear acrylic practice lock. My jackknife set has an engraved and inked "H&H®" logo with the slogan, "The Brand of High Quality" likewise engraved and inked into the same side. Except for the magnet and removable pick retaining screw, it appears more or less identical to this Multipick model and all the others I've seen, including the six picks, which are also the same thickness. I knew absolutely nothing about lock picks and tools when I bought it, but if I'd known then what I know now, I would have spent the extra money on this Multipick version. Why? Simply because of the much better selection and interchangeability of picks, really. Out of the six it was supplied with, only the city rake and the ball DeForest ones are all I'd really want to use. It has a half ball and half diamond I'd never use, the same, deeper snake I'd also never use, and a steep hook that could only come in handy for certain types of bitting that I wouldn't expect such a compact, Keychain-type, almost novelty sort of pick set to work on, anyway. After seeing this video, I'm tempted to grind the tensioner halfway back from the tip to make it more like the one in your Multipick set. So... All that having been said, I don't hate mine, but I sure do wish it had a retaining screw like the Multipick's has, as they sell the picks in sets and individually, and I'd love to be able to improve the selection in mine. It really is very sturdy, and with a better pick selection I might actually carry it as an EDC. Another great review, thanks again!

There are two reasons I haven't yet bought one: 1. They need a clip to hang the thing on the interior of a pant pocket. 2. They need a top of keyway tensioner. You could devise a way to inlay the profile of it on one of the scales and then have a rotating metal clip inlayed to secure it. I'd pay more for that. The trick will be in providing a top of keyway tensioner with a different thickness on either end. 50/1000s of an inch on one end, 40/1000 on the other. Again, I would be a complete Multipick fanboy if they'd end their policy of keeping secret the PSI rating of their steel. It's fair that they don't disclose the exact makeup of their alloy but the strength??? I find that utterly bizarre & a little suspect. Are they 301 or 301 high yield, for example? The difference in durability between those two is substantial. SouthOrd, Sparrows & Peterson all proudly disclose the variety and strength of their steel. Even low end brands will tell you they use spring steel. This is coming from somebody who's spent upwards of 400 very hard earned USD with them.
