A major TY! I’ve spent the last two weeks trying to find a real answer to the “2 Shops” question! It also helps that you are, unlike many on a KZbin, “believable” / real. Two shops to keep my opposing niches from doing a Worlds Colliding, with Collections within each, is exactly what I am wanting to do. Again, TY for this video. Hi Lisa and hi everyone ! I have a related question that's just a little more nuanced than just choosing between collection or niche. Do you believe it's better to have a specific style like Steven Rhodes for instance, and then you can literally design any theme in that style, or is it better to focus on a theme (or niche) that you can design for even though you design very different styles for that niche (text-based designs, digital painting, patterns or whatever). I'm asking this because in my case, I have designs in my shop that are very different in style and yet they're from the same niche if that makes sense. For instance, one will be a text design and then maybe the next one will be more of a digital portrait but they target the same niche. So do you think this is a good strategy or do you think it is better to, on top of focusing on a niche, to also focus on a "type" of design, on a cohesive style for a more homogeneous shop? I'm very eclectic but it makes me go in all sorts of direction with my designs style... #feelinglost Thank you for your advice!
@LisaIrby3 жыл бұрын
I think both are good because in either case, you are drawing an audience that is more likely to want to buy a lot of different options on your site. Both strategies draw in a more targeting following and THAT's what you want. Both are better than hodgepodge sites because those don't really draw in loyal followers. They may follow you but not really be engaged with what you post. Great question!

I even Niched down with Amazon Merch (as in Used the company Name as a Niche of designs) this way I can direct an audience to a bit.ly link of the search term company name, and they get to see all my designs in that arena. Be careful with this. You'll probably be OK but I've heard people say this got them banned. The problem is you never REALLY know why someone was banned. In many cases it's due to country/location. Say if you target sports designs, is it a good idea to have a shop for all different types of sports? Or is it better to niche down to an individual sport?
@LisaIrby4 жыл бұрын
Individual. I always look at it like this. Let's say you do multi sports and you end up with 5,000 followers. Great, right? But how many of them like football? How many of them like basketball? How many like soccer? You will never have any idea what the breakdown is. So that means when you upload a hockey design, you don't know what percentage of followers like hockey. Why does this matter? Because you want ENGAGED followers. You want people to be interested in what you upload. And when you have a niche, you have a higher percentage of interest per upload. If you ONLY do hockey, you know that every single follower is into hockey. So you may only have 1,000 followers but AT LEAST you know that every person following you likes hockey. I'd rather market to 1,000 niched down people than 5,000 random on any day. The irony is that most newbies would choose the 5,000 because the number is higher. The quality of followers matters more than the quantity....ESPECIALLY if you are going to build traffic outside of RedBubble (social media, etc.).
@jessicalove92734 жыл бұрын
@@LisaIrby Hi, isn't that what google analytics is for?
@LisaIrby4 жыл бұрын
@@jessicalove9273 Yes, but Google Analytics is not going to tell you the keyword the person used to buy. RedBubble hides that info now. It would be soooo beneficial to have that info. Google Analytics is really only useful now to see overall shop traffic because RedBubble hides the keyword referrals for sales. But you can get an idea with traffic stats for sure.

I'm preparing to start out on Redbubble and am wondering what the best approach would be. I'm planning on doing my own designs, but also some fan art. I don't have enough of either to warrant having 2 shops, but would it be detrimental to split it into 2 shops later on if I have enough designs (if that's even possible)? Also I was thinking of the fact that having a separate shop for fan art would be an extra layer of protection since I've heard that Redbubble tends to be a bit trigger happy with banning people without warning.

And thank you yet again for great content; this is what I'm here for!
@LisaIrby4 жыл бұрын
It depends on how well you're selling. I hate to recommend anyone delete designs that have sold because you'll lose that rank and any recommendations you're getting from emails RedBubble sends out. If you're not selling at all and your designs have been out there for months, you could delete them and start over with a more niche shop. Or delete designs on that existing account that are not selling and turn it into a niche shop. But I wouldn't have the designs on both accounts. RedBubble can get trigger happy with banning and I wouldn't want them to think you are trying to spam with multiple designs. Yes, I'm being a tad bit cautious, but you never know.
@deadbishop93174 жыл бұрын
@@LisaIrby Thank you for answering, that clears it up for me. I've only really sold in one niche, so I could make my current account into a niche store for those so I don't loose rank (so few sales though, but makes sense to keep what I've got), and than move the others to other accounts. And delete some of my earlier work in the process, looking back at least it's clear that I've learned a thing or two; holy moly some of it is really not up to scratch. Thank you again for answering, and for awesome content!

It's a one-off. I would never share my biggest niches / keywords on here thanks to the copycats. The brand name has always been what you see on the listing. I don't put all my shirts under one main brand on MBA for several reasons.

No automation here. I used Merch Titans when it was free and in beta, but was disappointed in the bugs. I wonder if they've gotten better. I have a free Merch Informer account, but I never use it except for teaching students in my private group when we examine what is selling. So because I have a website and brand, I prefer to go niche.

I actually like linking to them manually from my site. So if I want to send everyone to all designs on X topic, I like having a manual link so people can quickly see all designs in that category in my niche. I think they can be helpful if you have traffic outside of RedBubble and you want to point people to a style or category of designs. I always wonder how many RedBubble shoppers actually view them though. That's what I always wonder. I guess I can comb thru my Analytics to see.
