Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and riding motorbike

Looking for your opinion on safety equipment while riding! I know its essential but sometimes I have to make a decision based on the weather. What's your opinion?

Thanks for checking out my channel 👍 I sweat buckets when I get hot. It doesn't even need to be hot, I just need to do some physical work and I overheat. I am keeping a close eye on those Ice vests as I might be up for one of those.

Last year I invested in a First Gear mesh jacket. It's got armour in the right places and has great airflow when you're moving. It has a zip-in liner that's marginally waterproof. Normally, when it's warm, I wear good boots that reach above the ankle, jeans and this mesh jacket over a t-shirt and gloves. Full face Shoei, tinted visor in full sun. Weather here in Canada goes full range. We have mostly mid-20's now but it will be knocking into the 30's some days in the next couple of months. My thing is remembering to drink enough water. Oh, and good low price base layers can often be bought from branches of Lidl or Aldi.

I too get extremely hot and while wanting to keep myself well protected, I also need to keep cool. In the South West we can have temperatures into the 30s C. What works for me is the following kit; 1. A short sleeve base layer instead of a T-Shirt, as this keeps me cool and dissipates sweat and smells. 2. RST Vented summer jacket. This still has elbow, shoulder and back CE protection, but is light weight and well vented. 3. Kevlar/Aramid armoured jeans. These have knee and hip CE armour yet are light and comfortable to wear both on and off the bike. 4. RST ankle boots. These provide a good level of protect to the feet and ankles, while allowing good air flow around o the lower legs. Hope this helps.

Have you ever thought of creating a small roll cage that you could clip over the top of Milly to keep her safe in case of a crash? God forbid i would never ever want you to crash, but if there was a safety cage built in to the bike and clips down over her, still allowing her to see and stuff, that would be awesome.

Hey, I have MS and I ride bikes every day. I've worked as a motorcycle salesman for the past 13 years. I wear RST Ventilator jacket and trousers. They have a removable thermal layer that I never use and a removable waterproof layer. The jacket is then a mesh jacket that feels like wearing a t-shirt as so much air comes through and then I pop the waterproof layer in if it's chilly or wet.

#My Ms may i ask how progressed your MS is ? balance still ok ..and how about the legs ? .. cause i was diagnosed 1 year ago .. my legs are sorta fine gettign stronger by weight training so far put 100 kg in weight on my legs presses from starting .. arms feels ok . balance no issues there .. so was just wondering if u could share the info with me .. not in detail .. just so i get an idea if its possible for me to start on with MS

I'm lucky being a woman I can wear Motogirl leggings and jacket that are quite lightweight. My husband has numerous medical issue and is getting tested for neurological and autoimmune collagen diseases and struggles with the heavy warm gear. He drives me nuts when he goes out in jeans and a hoodie...so I got him Bull-it jeans in the sale for £50 (eBay have some around £35-40) and a Kevlar hoodie with armour for under £50 he's happy with them. I think you should maybe contact a gore-tex supplier see if they have cheaper alternatives ya never know they may want their gear advertised and you and Milly could do that, with a nice wee deduction on cost

Im from Ireland so weather similar, i've had a slide in snickers work trousers and they held up fine, obvs not armoured but they'll be breatheable and you can at least showerproof them and look at localised armour like stunt riders wear?. Id look at strategic cooling i.e head, hands underarm vents etc, i have a hjc rpha 11 helmet and the venting is exceptional on it. what about looking at the armoured bug jackets henry cole used to wear on his worlds greatest rides programme? then u can put a waterproof over jacket on if you need to? also the wickaway underarmour stuff really works and isnt shocking expensive, i just wear a layer from the sports direct outlet under leathers, ive summer leathers and for winter leathers, not big money stuff but robust and replaceable, i stay away from cordura its too cumbersome and hot. the underarmour keeps windchill down in the winter too. Really for winter riding id personally be looking at a 2nd faired bike, cheap useable GT 550, deauville or something with lots of shelter from a big screen- it might mean you dont have to dress up like a cordura astronaut?

I've been riding a good few years now and in the last few years I've opted to go for the more casual options of riding gear. I find it's more comfy and it makes quite a difference to your riding when you feel more comfortable and relaxed. A Triumph rocket doesn't really suit full leathers either and the full suits become uncomfortable and stiff on that type of bike. Part of looking at riding in comfortable clothing may also be a part of getting older too 😂 😂 😂
