Do you know that when you get a new radio transmitter with a Multiprotocol Module (Jumper T16, Jumper T18, Radiomaster TX16S, you name it), and you want to use it with, for example, FrSky receivers like R-XSR, you should perform a calibration? I bet you had no idea about that! Yes, the multiprotocol module calibration, also known as a fine frequency tuning is something that everybody should do, but I bet nobody really does. Too bad, since it's a simple procedure that can increase a useful range of the radio.

We had the case, that the MPM was so far off, that even binding was not possible. Binding was successful at +60 and ideal tuning was at over 100. So I always recommend doing this process. nice video.

There is some difference when you go until loose connection. And when you are from out of connection to when you aquire again the link. I do prefer the second alternative. Also I repeat the test several times and take note of several values. It is not always the same for some margin. Then I use averbado of the lower and upper average :)

Great video. I did this for xsrx and xm+ and had completely different results, so cannot reuse values from one receiver to other frsky but different model... Will test my other rxsr receivers to see if values can be reused for the same receiver type...

If you change the frequency tuning value it is best to re-bind the receiver(s).

I'd use weighted average like (iRSSI0*OFFSET0 + ... + iRSSIX*OFFSETX)/(iRSSI0+..+iRSSIX), where iRSSI=100-RSSI, and measure e.g. 20 values

Since SPI based frsky receivers fine-tune automatically upon bind (or so I've heard) would it make sense to rebind after the Tx fine-tune process? Edit: I'm specifically referring to the frsky_spi_offset parameter. Is it maybe best to just have one module "fine-tune" to the other, and just leave it at that? Meaning, it may be better for SPI based frsky modules, on firmwares using the spi_rx framework from betaflight, to not do perform the fine-tune process on the TX. I'd love to get some feedback from others on this. Edit2: My own experiment shows that rebinding after performing Tx fine-tune process brought the frsky_spi_offset value from -18 to -12. These results are repeatable with a margin of about 1-2 units for me. So is it better to de-tune just one module, or is it more ideal to "meet-in-the-middle" with both Rx and Tx? Edit3: I'm finding that if you fine tune with an SPI based RX, it's best to reset any offset in the firmware to 0.

For my spi based quad I did a fine tune since it failsafed very reliable at the same spot in my garden. The tune was quite off from the default (-29) but I had no more failsafes since. So if they do a fine tune it’s either not good or I made a mistake while binding using the betaflight cli.
@BrandonBeans
@BrandonBeans 3 жыл бұрын
@@keinplan147 it's automatic. It saves during bind process as a parameter called frsky_spi_offset, you can check in cli: get frsky_spi_offset. Yours is probably a fairly large, negative number. You noticed improved range and you didn't re-bind?
@keinplan147
@keinplan147 3 жыл бұрын
Brandon's Baked Beans yes the range improved without rebind. I didn’t do a range check after that, but now I am able to fly around the garden without failsafes. Thank you for the information, I checked the spi offset and it was at -46. After rebinding without changing the frequency fine tune it has gone down to -37, shouldn’t the offset be closer to 0 if the Transmitter fine tune is correct?
@BrandonBeans
@BrandonBeans 3 жыл бұрын
@@keinplan147 I would think it would be closer to 0. But I honestly don't know, so I'm fielding results from others. Perhaps you can go back and forth, fine-tune on Tx, then re-bind on Rx. Wash, rinse, repeat. Bad idea?
@keinplan147
@keinplan147 3 жыл бұрын
Brandon's Baked Beans that’s exactly what I did Last evening: when upping the transmitter tune (so going from negative closer to 0) the receiver offset gets smaller. The lowest number I got was -3 with a fine tune of +18. upping the fine tune on the transmitter further the receiver would not bind any more, so an offset of 0 is not achievable for me. So it seems the spi offset is somewhat different to the fine tune. The quad is my only frsky receiver, I will receive an r-xsr in the next weeks and will do the fine tune with this receiver and try the value on the spi receiver.

Don't judge me for this ... I can see things difrent some times. This is a power level based adjust ... nothing else nothing more. I will not work with afhd or other multi frequency receivers/transmiter . Antena calibration is something else ... IT should be same as software side of the transmiter/receiver. Power based adjust is more dependent in things that are around You (house, walls, trees, etc)

This sounds a bit suspicious, is this technic is actually effective? Doesn't it assume that things behave nicely linear and falloff curve is symmetrical? Aren't things in radio world rarely respond linearly?
