As a former military trooper and 6 years in law enforcement as a patrol officer, I can say your conclusions are pretty spot on. There are tools the average “EDC carry” type person wants, and there is a tool for “service” type work. This is for service work. And people in that kinda work would appreciate what it does and won’t discount what it doesn’t. I now work in a job where I’m climbing a lot and I also spend a lot of time in confined spaces. For me, one handed access to what this tool has is perfect. I can also see carrying this off work as well, but it’s specialized, as you stated. I think a LM like the Rebar or Wave is more suited to the average Joe. But that shouldn’t stop the regular user from trying it out. If you need to file metal, maybe a Leatherman isn’t the tool you should grab first lol. Scissors, they are cute in a knife, but I’ve never ever been in a situation where I was thinking. “Damn, why doesn’t my knife have scissors?” Lol. People enjoy buying gear designed for military/emergency use, but then are saddened when it doesn’t fit their lifestyle. There’s “tactical” and then there’s “tacti-cool”. This is the former.

The spring on the pliers is convenient, but sometimes does not work well with an overlapping wire cutter if two blades overlap too tightly. To make sure the spring functions, those 2 blades on the pliers overlap loosely which causes problems when cutting stranded wire as some wire might be caught between blades.

I've wanted a larger leatherman and I like the oht because 1) who needs a file 2) I'll carry a micra for scissors 3) I like spring pliers 4) I like the external tools
@My03Tundra4 жыл бұрын
Jawnboi And now, you can get a Leatherman Free T4, and cover the shortcomings. I also have a Gerber MP600 with similar shortcomings to the OHT, so I also carry my new Free T4. I love that little tool. I would like to see a slightly smaller version of the OHT, with a few more tools added. Now, the Free P4 does have more tools, but I had it and traded it for the OHT. Why? I prefer the sliding mechanism, and the most commonly used tools like it has.

First off, great videos. I won't even buy a multitool until I have seen one of your videos on said multitool. I have seen many and of course I subscribed a while back. That being said, I have a stainless steel supertool 300. I kept seeing your black oxide super tool 300 in your videos. In short, I got multitool envy, I had to order a black oxide super tool 300! Hahaha!!! Keep up the great work. Again, I love your videos and channel.

I just got this and the rebar, and I keep grabbing this for projects. the easy access to the screwdrivers is what I like most. for me convenience is better than having more tools

I like the OHT so much I own two. I am not a first responder nor am I military. I use mine as a general purpose tool and I carry it with me hunting and camping. I love the one hand deployment. I also love that it is generally minimalistic and it gives me the tools I use (particularly the saw). I do not mind that it does not have scissors because I generally carry a Micra. One of my OHTs stays with me most of the time on my belt and the other is partnered with my hunting/camping knife. If I was going to change something on the OHT, I would remove the bottle opener and add a file. I have several other Leathermans and this has been my go-to tool for a long time.

I love mine. It comes in great as an outdoor or field operators tool. I hike, hunt, and fish. All tools, even the can/bottle opener come in handy for trail meal prep. It also has a threaded hole for a barrel brush which is great for firearms maintenance in the field. Saw is great for minor pruning and the serrated blade makes a great steak knife in a pinch. The rest of the tools are self explanatory and good for firearms and other outdoor gear maintenance

I'm a technician in the field and volunteer fireman and I love the OHT but it is a very specialized tool. I used the wave for years and it work fine but when the OHT came out I just had to buy one. It's hands down the best tool I've seen/used for a person in my field of work!
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
Awesome, recommendations like yours are what got me to check it out :]

When it come to the Wave vs OHT, can you be more explicit about "specialized tool" and why it's hands down the best tool for a person in your field of work?
@DrWarman867 жыл бұрын
you would be surprised at how many times i used the can opener on my MT. my electric can opener broke and well, the other people i live with threw away the crank can opener. my MT Leatherman charge to the rescue. took me like 1 min to open. but the scissors, and the file come in handy too.
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
The Leatherman OHT does what it sets out to do, but some compromises were necessary to achieve the all one-handed opening ability. Therefore, one must consider priorities carefully, this is more of a specialized tool, its biggest competition will be other Leathermans like the Surge or Sidekick, which appeal to larger groups of people and roles.

I agree. I was tempted to get it, but without the scissors and awl, I decided against it. I think for my needs, the Wave or Surge are all I need. I found a way to create an awl that fits it and keep it in a pouch inside my phone case.
@KenGray7 жыл бұрын
The Surge also has by-pass cable cutters and crimpers as well.

I like my OHT but love my wave. I missed the scissors and file on my OHT but loved the spring pliers and replaceable cutters. It depends on my day what I’m going to carry, but it seems to be70/30 for the wave. As for the lock on the OHT I just unscrewed it and left it off and it’s way better deploying now. My 2 cents.

Great review 👍 great multi-tool for electricians I think. Yeah I think it's a good all-around to. Even changing the line on your string trimmer you can deploy the pliers with one hand and with the other hand holding the trimmer to remove the old trimmer line.

Hi, just a heads up on that pouch, I bought the same one as an alternative to the leather one for my charge al, and although being a superb bit of kit, it has a serious flaw (for me at least). A synthetic shirt will stick to it like velcro , !! Cotton is OK , but it will ruin your expensive shirts, (North Face, Berghaus, Nike, etc etc). Just to let you know, my pouch sits in the cupboard hardly used, and I'm sticking, (scuse pun) with the original leather one.. Caveat Emptor , ,, all the best, John ..
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, a lot of people on Amazon said they don't like the pouch, it seems a little small for the tool, also.

I remember the first multitools that came out and I was a young kid and needed a top open. so I got my dad's multitools out and I kept getting my hand pinched so bad every time it slipped off. I crush the skin in my hand so hard it bled and turned purple. But I got that stupid top off that's all that matters.

Get rid of the saw, put in a flip out c4 spike and also the window breaker, push lock vs twist, then it would be great.

Nice review. I haven't had a chance to get my hands on one of these. A quick question: when opened, does the pliers rattle at all or as much as their competitors? Keep up your good work.

Same, pinches the palm if you slip while gripping and squeezing. Blade is too short, who really uses a wood saw. I don't carry it any more, not really that useful. But I really do like its size.

you can just unscrew the small T-spiece that locks the pliers. That''s also how people lose that thing, they don't realize it's just a screw

while you're at it, would you check the sheath's velcro? Mine lost a few of those little plastic hooks whenever I opened it and many people complain about the sheath not holding shut anymore after only a few months, I believe that might be the cause. I opened mine quite a few times the first day I got it and the velcro strip is already half "bald"

@dfernandez34827 жыл бұрын
UPDATE: great news, they all have awls!! Lol bad news is none of the awls has an eyelet which is kind of a bummer but its ok i guess. One of em has an epic ice pick looking awl about 2 in. long but the handle part that its attached to is missing a piece that keeps the tools attached like on an actual leatherman yknow that lil round thing you can tighten or loosen. I gotta find a nut and bolt to fix it or else it will fall apart in my pocket and also clean up the rust other than that all 6 was worth it.
