I'm still very happy with my Wingman, it has all the tools I need on a daily basis except for tweezers, which is why I have an old Micra in my pocket also. I even carry my Wingman to Church.

I actually EDC this third and the skeletool together. The surge in a belt sheath, and the skeletool in my edc bag. It's very useful having two sets of pliers for turning bolts and screws that aren't secured. Safe for the screwdrivers. Since the surge is on my belt and the skeletool in a bag that I carry over the shoulder, the extra weight doesn't bother me at all. It works great for me. Got my surge (new generation) new for $75 on eBay and my skeletool on sale at Home Depot for $30. Got good deals on both of them and my edc is better than ever?

Good to see you back, sir. Thank you for yet another great and honest video. I like Skeletool models very much. I've been using old original, plain blade model for a long time...for over 5 years, on the daily basis, and have never had any issue with it. That made me buy CX model too. ....And I do totaly agree with you, adding hammer end, and scissors would make it the ultimate minimalist EDC multitool, at least for me. ( I live in Europe, in the urban area) I have several Leathermans and Victorinox multitools, but the Skeletool (and the Micra) is always in my pocket. The other (selected) tools go into my bag.

I really like the carabiner/bottle opener. The carabiner gives a lot more carrying options and I like to have a bottle opener at hand. Once I was at a supermarket paying my stuff and one lady behind me had a bottle and she asked the employee there for a bottle opener which the employee did not have so I took my Gerber Dime out of my pocket and handed to her and she opened the bottle so after that I like having a bottle opener at hand.

I own the original Wave. It's worked well for me although I cut myself a couple of times, once seriously. I consider that a badge of honor for any cutting tool. It means they did a good job and the fit and finish is excellent. Up here in Canada, we have universal health care and that comes in handy if you're clumsy or careless.

I use the skeletool sx. It's the snowboard edition. It doesn't come with an extra bit. But instead it has a dimand file for smowboards.. I found it's also good for a sharpening stone. I'm a backpacker and I already a "tool box kit" in my ruck. The skeletool is great just to have in the pocket

I have the Surge and I am going to get the Skeletool, cause as you say, different purposes. If you are working on something substantial, like the house, car, boat etc the Surge will solve most situations. The Skeletool is for just having with you wherever you go, and it'll solve most things. Get both!
@Traderjoe7 жыл бұрын
I have had them all, and others also. I liked the design of the Skeletool and enjoyed looking at it and feeling it in my hand. But I did ultimately sell it and have gone the gamut of all the other tools you showed here and I have settled on the Wave as my preferred EDC multitool. My only wish is that somebody would find a way to get the scissor of the Juice int the Wave and if they could, I would buy it in a heart beat. The standard Wave scissors leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion while the Juice has the best on the market in my opinion. I had the Juice as my EDC for 2 years and it served me well. But the Wave (black oxide) really had all that I need. I watch all the new stuff that Leatherman comes out with and and growing concerned that they are not interested in innovating anymore and instead have gone the fractal route where they are selling half the handle of a multitool now. Its sad.
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
I was surprised by that as well. Surely they will come out with at least one new multitool model this year? The half handle juices can't be all!
@elderfunghi79227 жыл бұрын
WeAllJuggleKnives there is also halfhanded skeletool XD of course they are not interested in making perfect edc tool, not are they interested in making tools we ask them for. This is because if they did, no one would by other tools they make. Now you have to buy surge to have a toolbox, wave for "almost full" edc and skeletool for ultralight multitool carry. If they made one perfect tool, you would buy only one.
@WeAllJuggleKnives7 жыл бұрын
That's true, but when some other company comes along and doesn't mind making the perfect tool and taking the money and running, they'll be sorry! I hope! I pray!

In the last few years I've been wanting just a knife, but with a couple of screwdrivers and maybe scissors. I was really happy when Leatherman came out with the K series. But those K tools look really thick and bulky. Maybe a blade with a bit driver and pliers would work.
@grizzmax4 жыл бұрын
Yea I don't really like the added space due to the bottle opener but maby it's necessary to protect from the otherwise protruding driver bits. I wish they could find another way to deal with that.

Good review as usual. In my opinion this tool is the best complement for Victorinox Ranger: good pliers, locking blade and various screwdriver!
@warspork59287 жыл бұрын
Imho the missing ingredient is a mini screwdriver or bit holder. Seems that those itty bitty screws are everywhere - glasses, electronics, toys, computers. The Wave has it. That's what I EDC. For home and yard work I carry the Supertool, and in my key ring a Micra. All bases covered. So who will make a multitool with a ratcheting bit holder?
@janbovin6 жыл бұрын
Carry a Victorinox signature with the Skeletool. Then you have scissors, tweezers and a small pen in addition. That's my every day setup and is very light weight for the amount of tools you get.

I would love the minimalist approach if it would have a 3rd driver...obviously the flathead and phillips drivers are so common.. but becoming more and more common is the torx bit for maintaining many of my pocket knives and increasingly other devices as well .. therefore forced to go into the toolbox approach... the skeletool just falls too short for me...
@NaturalBornGriller2 жыл бұрын
The pocket clip kind of sucks. I took mine off. You can get aftermarket ones that make the knife go head down into your pocket vs head up so it should stay in place better. You can get custom printed hammer head bits on Shapeways as well

Older thread, I know. But I do question why so many say, "if only it had a... too." That misses the point of a minimalist tool. Leatherman makes many models. Pick the one closest to your heart's desire! Who wants a Skeletool with a toothpick, a scissors, a toilet auger, a clothing dryer, and a Rolls Royce Trent engine cowling remover? Brilliant tool. But there are many to chose from, and modification and swapping are always possible.

I like my Skeletool, got the basic version and it works great. If I had gotten the plain edge with better steel version then I would feel fine about bringing it by itself, but the combo edge on the basic version is the tipping point for me. I bought it for the carabiner feature mainly (ahem), the light weight makes it a pretty viable option for me to hang off my belt loop. It's actually lighter than my Kershaw Cryo 2 Ti. Really great multitool for the price, weight, and features.
@jamesconroy70303 жыл бұрын
Pliers, screwdrivers, and the knife are the only really good tools on a multi tool. The tiny scissors, and 3 inch saws don't do much. Having 2 knife blades isn't a selling feature to me either.
