Visiting 100 year old Irani cafes, Legendary restaurants & iconic places in South Mumbai
Welcome to day 6 of my visit in Mumbai, today I am taking you guys around one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Mumbai. Welcome to SoBo. South Mumbai, often referred to as "SoBo," has a very unique and special vibe. The buzzing atmosphere, the gorgeous mix of historical and cultural landmarks, and the distinct way of life in this area brings a different nostalgia to every Mumbaikar. This place has some of the oldest cafes dating back to 1905 like Kyani & Co and Britannia & Co which introduced Irani cuisine & cafe culture to this city. Places like CSMT Station, Kala Ghoda, Asiatic library, Gateway of India mark are of the historical sites that preserve the legacy of this city. But these aren’t the only historic places, this area is also home to some of the oldest Department stores-Asiatic, oldest restaurant chains-Shiv Sagar and even the oldest movie theatre-Metro cinemas. But the city does not dwell in the past, with the fast paced lifestyle and diversity, this area has also turned into a huge Shopping hub. Street markets like fashion street, Colaba causeway and wholesale markets for antiques, home decor, beauty, jewellery, like Crawford Market & Zaveri Bazaar are popular amongst Mumbaikars as well as the visitors.
It is a blend of historical charm, cultural richness, and a relaxed coastal ambiance. Whether you're strolling along Marine Drive, exploring historical landmarks, or savouring iconic food, South Mumbai offers a one-of-a-kind experience in itself.

Madam, you have missed out on The Sassonian Cafe just ahead of Metro cinema. Also the Bastani's (closed now )opposite the Kyani's, had the best butter khari biscuit and the pudding and a plate of cakes with the tea. You also missed out on Zend & Zend bakery at the Bombay Samachar Marg for the best breads and puffs. Please do not take my statement as an offence ,but being born and brought up in South Mumbai (Churchgate 'A' Rd.) From 1950 to 1990 these Iranis were the heart of Mumbai. One other one was Brabourne cafe for their cutlet with gravy opposite the Asiatic store. Please note it gives me pleasure to see u on the tube because you go deep down into the area.
