I like that you're not scared of contrast. I work as an animator in stop-motion (usually kids TV) and the lighting is often completely bombarded with fill, like everything is so well lit your eye isn't drawn anywhere in particular and it even detracts from the animation sometimes.

(Glad your having fun with your own film stuff btw!)

So many of these tips are things that I honestly end up tinkering with in my photos just because I like them, but not even while making a conscious decision. Learning the proper meanings for the things I do are so helpful.

I found this really helpful. I'm starting a video editing and cinematography course for college, and am learning from your channel that the lighting is much more important than a lot of other things. That may seem obvious to someone with much more cinematography knowledge, but I thought there would be a much greater emphasis on colour grading.

The bloody irony of it all! And the ending!!! Anyways thank you so much Mumbo I really enjoyed the movie and your videos especially these kind. Like I always had an eye for "good movies" but I don't know what is it the catches my eye and what you've explained about the lighting and other elements that go into making a "good movie" it makes sense now. Like ohhh so that's why the shots look so majestic and beautiful! Thank again Mumbo!!! 💖

I love how passionate you are about filmmaking 💕. When I look at the process of filmmaking and photography I look at through an artist’s perspective. Even if a piece isn’t 100% realistic, the lighting and shadows can have such a big impact on how dynamic/realistic/dramatic something looks (in my opinion) which may have absolutely nothing to do with what you were talking about with lighting and shadows but it’s just the connection I made. And I absolutely understand what it’s like to ruin a picture by increasing the contrast or the brightness or the sharpness too much 😭. Anyway- the point I’m trying to make is, despite not really knowing a lot about the lovely art of filmmaking, I found this really interesting! 💕
