Petsmart has yet again come out with new products for our small mammal companions. This time a new style of cage that we haven't seen before, being made by Petsmart under their "All living things" line. Are there good qualities? Is it the appropriate size for our hamsters or mice? Does it come with the right size accessories like an appropriately sized wheel? Let's find out together.

It's like they listen to all the feedback except the size. This would be genius if it was the proper size, and with a few adjustments to ensure it's not so easy to escape. It's so frustrating when companies seem like they are really trying in most areas, but just won't give us big enough cages and wheels.

It would cost too much for many people to “waste” on what they consider disposable pets. People want to buy an animal and everything that it needs for less than they pay for a pair of moderately priced shoes…..
@jessicathomas1276
@jessicathomas1276 3 жыл бұрын
@@Boredchinchilla it would be up to the company to price the item so it would sell. Considering how close they get to the mark all they need to do is make it larger. Which may cause a slight increase in cost, but it would not be much more expensive than they already are.

@@Boredchinchilla I love these small furries and I don't consider them disposable. If I had a mouse, hamster or any of them I'd try to commit to the life of the pet. I don't want to take the liberty of "disposing" of them because they're a lot smaller than cats and dogs have a shorter life.

I keep seeing hamster cages with a large "aquarium" style bin underneath and thinking "oh that's a neat idea. Lots of digging area but also a wire top for them to play in where its easier to attach toys and wheels". But... they're all so SMALL. Why is it so hard to make a big hamster cage? D:

Ay I was just thinking about this channel yesterday! I went to petsmart to pick up some stuff and saw an adoptable syrian that had been returned because she bit someone. I was considering adopting her but ultimately decided against it since I didnt have anything set up for her and I'm going back to school soon so I wont have the time to properly devote to her. Ps happy late birthday munchie.

A lot of hamsters have bitten their owners. You need to need to be patient with them. Munchie is one caring person for small furry animals. I highly recommend Victoria Raechel but Erin's Animals and Pickles Pets are also good for educating people about hamsters and other little furry friends.

I never understand that logic. Your hamster is bound to bite you at some point. One of my hamsters is deaf and blind and he doesn't let me anywhere near him anymore, but I still love him to bits I couldn't imagine giving him away just because he bites. I guess it's for the best someone like that gives away their pet because it's clear they don't really care about it.

@@Aisha-721 just to make it clear this wasnt my hamster. It was someone else's who had returned it to the store because she bit them and she was adoptable. Personally I dont really care if a hamster bites me because it's an animal and animals do that from time to time.

Yeah in germany the required space is way bigger than these "habitats" that you so graciously review for us. They honestly look more like those toy sets you can get for kids, a house for a hamster plushie. It's kind of an odd size. I can't even imagine using it as a cage for transporting hamsters cause of the possible injuries. I have to say this one looks way better than other reviewed cages, but the size is still off. I always feel kind of claustrophobic looking at those cages, can't imagine how the hamster must feel in there.

Now I feel bad my mom bought this cage for my Hamster and my Hamster spends most her time in the bottom she loves making tunnels I added rocks and branches she loves them! But now I see it’s the wrong size. Mice will not be good in this cage unless they are full size because the tub on the bottom leaves a small gap and they can easily escape. I will see if I can convince my mom to upgrade the cage but she is still new so I’m not sure moving her again is going to be beneficial at the moment. And you were right about the food she actually sticks her whole head where the food is and takes it out. She loves the wheel but now I know it’s the wrong size so that will have to go quickly which I’m a bit sad about because it’s so silent and she loves being awake at 1am. Also I don’t like that I can’t see her it’s very hard to interact but when she is at the top she will take treats from my hands and she has come to me twice now my mom bought her Saturday so she has been with us for three days now. so I started bonding with her this morning because for some reason she was awake. Overall the only part of the cage she loves is the bottom, I know this because these past two days I’d wake up at 1 in the morning to check on her and all she does is create tunnels and chew on the branches I put in, she also cleans herself in the bottom. On the top she loves the hammock and the wheel I’m worried about the water because I don’t see her drinking it much so I’m worried she isn’t drinking enough. Sorry for the long essay just wanted to say thank you for letting me know this isn’t the right size. I really thought it was because she has not expressed any boredom behaviors but that could be because I added a hammock, branches, rocks, and hides. I also scattered food along her cage.

Tbh, instead of buying a cage that'll cost loaddsss, it won't take long n cost much to make a reusable huge cage that u can probs add too using rat sized tubes or pvc pipes or something? So why not just get a tall display cabinet take the glass out n replace with mesh, it means u can hang stuff, idk about water though lol, separate it for a big dig area for out little diggers n it be deep! Without having to worry about mess! Yet won't cost much if u get the cabinet second hand(I'm UK n mine cost.. £64? Yet Its about 100 for a new hamster cage which is tbh counted as a travel or medical cage so why not go cheaper? This shows people don't think, especially for their fur babies well fair

Tbh, this enclosure does have some good ideas (flawed overall, but definitely better than the usual bad enclosures), and you know what? If/when the connective piece holding the water bottle or the food dispenser fails and leaves an open hole, why not use that as an excuse to connect this thing via tubing to a bigger enclosure/bin cage? Give your hamster a little hangout room attachment to their usual bigger house!

One time my younger sister impulse bought a hamster and my mom enabled her. Unfortunately, when I tried to warn her about the small cages, they bought a cage very similar if not the same as this one. At the time I didn’t know a ton about hamsters, and I still don’t, but I shouldn’t have too because I don’t own one. I tried to warn her using the knowledge I had to no avail. Anyways, she and my mom did like no research and it was quite irresponsible on my moms part. I don’t want to blame my sister as she’s a kid, it’s really my moms fault and if anyone is to blame it’s my mom. Literally when they got this cage and I was worrying about it being too small, I again wasn’t 100% sure what the minimum is so in the end I said “maybe it’s big enough” or something. Again, it’s not my responsibility to do a bunch of research for something my mom decided to impulse buy. I think I even tried to give my sister or mom research material but they didn’t really want it. Well possibly luckily for the hamster, they returned the hamster (and the cage) a few days later, but my sister was quite upset. I feel like the hamster was rebought and put in a tiny tales cage or something. Well if this happened again I would probably offer to take care of it for them. Yeah this cage isn’t good or suitable. I feel bad when animals don’t even get the minimum things they need. Heck, my dad admitted he thinks a small animal could live fine in a crittertrail during a conversation about mouse care and tank sizes. How ridiculous!! Please only use them as extensions, travel cages, or temporary homes for mice and hamsters people. They are too small for other stuff.

450 and 600 I feel are too small now, we have done tons of research and I think it should be 600 for dwarves and 800-1000 for Syrians because they need so much enrichment.
