Toyota Landcruiser is a good comparison in this category & the L cruiser does better in dirt/mud as seen on another test vid for off-roading. I like this 600mm demo because that's a likely scenario in our region for a non-hunter. Britain's like their sleek designs. Hunters encounter dirt/mud so a Toyota Landcruiser probably best choice based on proven outdoor off-road tests.

It's often regarded as the best because of its pedigree everywhere. However, there's no one-off-roader-fits-all so a Jeep is perfect for others. Also keep in mind the country that you're in, in the first place. That plays a huge part in decision making.

The English love their Landrovers, Land cruisers are so much better, especially the 70 series,(and this is coming from someone who owned two defenders).They are so much more reliable and capable off road, the newer ones even come with optional front and rear diff locks, and with the extra power and weight makes them serious machines,

Range Rover sport autobiography 5:0 v8 This car cost £93,000 with upgrades such as full panoramic sunroof. A piece of rubber jammed in the roof whilst operating so I took the car to a main Land Rover dealership (Stockton-on-Tees) for a repair and was told the entire panoramic sunroof would have to be replaced ? I said ok the car has a 3yr warranty. Guess what ? They said the roof was not covered by warranty even tho this was a factory fitted option ? I contacted the ceo of Land Rover but received no help at all so I sold the car a week later & will not buy another. Warranty not worth the paper if is written on so be warned people.

range rover and disco is not built for the hardest terrain. They are capable but not tough enough. They are Tupperware princesses that bits just break and fall off. The disco is really a glorified minivan for school mums. Shame really as it has some interesting technology that is great when it's not broken. The defender is tougher as are the older offerings from Nissan and Toyota. Serious off roaders would never consider one of these.

Totally agree. If I were to have an emergency in places that off roaders are supposed to go which in my case could be days from anywhere. I would rather have a machine I can fix with a few simple tools and a roll of duct tape. Yeah, modern electronics are more reliable than they used to be but everything fails eventually, its just a question of what, when, how and how complex it is to rectify.

FSXgta that's those peoples problem not mine douchebag. Pretty sure reliability matters on and off road anyways. Live in the city I do and off road capabilities matter on road as well when the roads are under a couple of feet of water and that happens often. Just because you and your circle of people without a backbone dont use cars for the purpose they were engineered for doesnt mean there arent plenty of people who. There are even land-rover clubs in america that go on trails often. Not to mention landcruiser clubs and obscene jeep clubs.

Yeah for off-roading, hardly anyone buys a Range Rover. People who buy them are usually wealthy people who get chauffeured around in them. Land Rovers are somewhat similar with the (newer) Discovery being a school run car (from what I've seen) so the only model thats really used for off-roading would be the Defender which is pretty good for what it is. I won't say its the best off-roader you can get nowadays but it can handle itself pretty well. I do agree with you that Range/Land Rovers aren't the best off-road cars but for what they are, being a luxury SUV they are some of the best with its only rival being the G-Wagon.
