I say morning to my dolls (I've got a small collection I have been known to take a doll into my bedroom, especially on their first nights with me 😊. My confession is that I change my mind about the dolls I want all the time. There are so many amazing ones and on a limited budget it's hard to choose sometimes. I am fairly new to the hobby and I don't always know what I want - usually because I am overthinking it. I am SO cautious with all of my dolls lol. Part of the reason I love smart doll so much is the 'wabi sabi' aspect, and the slush molding that gives the dolls cute little 'birthmarks'. My family is very supportive of my nerdy doll habits, which is so amazing. I couldn't be more grateful. But I'm still public shy with my dolls. xD I have two Pullip dolls and a Hello Kitty Barbie that I have yet to open~ Super excited!

Such a great video! I’m very new to dolls at age 64 and admit feeling a little self conscious about “ playing with dolls”. I’m a retired therapist and had never given dolls much thought since early childhood. During the pandemic as the first strange Christmas approached , I bought a few Barbies. The house looked a bit more festive & cheerful with some extra faces near the tree. Since I began painting portraits , dolls seemed like perfect subjects. They can hold a pose and keep the lighting and expression for a Long Time , lol. That idea led to one Gotz Hannah. She led to 4 more plus a couple of Happy Kidz fir better posing. RubyRed Sara and Stella are on the way per your recommendations. You have humanized doll collecting with a sense of genuine warmth and honesty that has greatly helped this novice senior feel comfortable and happy about my new joy. Thank you for sharing your personal experiences plus so much valuable doll information.

I agree that when you sell a beloved doll, you are allowing someone else to enjoy adding to their collection. I am usually behind the curve in buying dolls because I am still looking for money to buy an older doll that I couldn't afford when it first came out.

I really enjoy watching your videos. I have some really nice vintage dolls from the 1950s 1960s that I found at my local thrift store. I have really enjoyed cleaning them up, redressing them, washing their hair, which they often need. Then I proudly display them. I also like to take them down and hold them none of mine stay boxed up either if I buy them in a box.🌝

I too love your confession videos Alison. So much of what you say is exactly how I feel about my doll collecting too. I NEVER keep my dolls in boxes, I unbox them all. I take my dolls out with me to photograph and yes sometimes they fall over. So far I haven't damaged any but one day I will, but that won't stop me playing with them. My doll clothes are also very messy and like you I have limited space, I haven't figured out how to store them neatly yet, but if I do I will let you know. Thank you for all your videos, I so love your channel and your enthusiasm, you always make me smile. I am so glad I am not alone in feeling about my dolls the way I do, as I only have one friend in real life who collects dolls too. Most people I know think I am quite mad :P

I really love your approach to changing your own mindset about selling dolls (which could just be replaced with anything else honestly). That's a really great way to see things! I do have this issue with a few other things. Personally I know I'll probably never have that much of an issue with selling dolls on eventually, but I also don't want to waste my money by buying ones I don't want. So I think my confession would be being very careful about which dolls I want and doing quite a bit of research before getting one. Unfortunatele (or fortunately, depending on how you think about it), this last year and even now in 2021, there's a lot of people selling dolls, and most are on a bidding time.

The thing you mentioned about breaking the Pasha doll resonated in an opposite way with me. I got an Ichimatsu doll from the 1950s, and upon seeing his face was dirty, decided to wipe it with a wet wipes, destroying the beautiful blemish free skin. And I was depressed for days! One slight damage and I will assasinate myself (mentally) over the stupidity of my mistake for days, literally need to go on extreme meditations for like an hour! I once again have so enjoyed your video. It is good to know that we all have our different ways and reasons about our doll collecting. I have some boxes of dolls that I have no room to display. It bothers me somewhat but then most of my favorites are out on my shelves. I am planning to sell some of the boxed dolls but will have trouble deciding which ones. I also appreciate flawed dolls, I won an ebay auction for a Rosebud Takara Blythe for a great price because she had a blemish on her forehead, though it's really hard to see. I bought a Tiny Kitty Collier from the goodwill with only one hand, I got her for $1 ! My main confession is that I never stop looking and scheming to buy dolls and yes, Evangeline Ghastly has been on my list for some time!

I keep my doll clothes in binders in the plastic sleeves and keep a log of what outfit goes in which binder, with notes in the sleeves saying what should be in there and dividers for different brands or doll sizes so I can really pin point where things are.. I'm the exact opposite I can't keep a doll boxed even if I bought it for birthday or Christmas I have to open as so as I get them.💜

Oh WOW! I may look into this, too. I'm anal about having all the pieces of an outfit together and I do keep them each in a small plastic bag, yet sometimes I use a hat, or socks or whatever with a different outfit. For my smaller dolls, this would free up a lot of space for me. I really appreciate seamstresses who send a picture of the outfit, too and I could pop that right in the sleeve too.

Ali, your chat about imperfection reminded me of Danny Choo and what he said about the Japanese design principle known as Wabi Sabi. It talks about the concepts of imbalance, imperfection and asymmetry. Perfection in imperfection. I also started life out as a middle school teacher. Transitioning to the business world in the early 80’s, I was fortunate to work in sales for a multinational electronics company. Since that point, I traveled extensively for decades in Asia, Europe, Central and South America. My several trips to Japan (21 days from North to South) were favorites. And I agree. Teachers deserve all the respect in the world, especially these days! Thanks for a fun and relatable video!

I am very open about my dolls as well, I am proud of my doll army. 🥰 You might want to try clear E6000 on the toe, it's great for hard to hold doll parts. I like the hot glue tips! I leave some of my Barbies in the packaging especially the ones with years on them, but I have to open them where I can see them. I used to work as an accountant, for hotels. I really likes these confessions! They were great!

Love this, Allison and I can relate to quite a few, especially organizing clothes, not exactly hiding, but not talking about dolls with my friends who have no interest and actually have made some disparaging remarks to me, and selling dolls. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm considering it. Very early on, I finally received a doll that I had had on layaway for 9 months. I was so excited when she have, but she is huge! I thought she was going to fit on a shelf in my dining room china cabinet but NO WAY and the piece of furniture I needed for her to recline on would have to be Gigantic! She's still in the box. Would love to have dolly friends I could get together with. I do take pix of my dolls out in public but it's sometimes uncomfortable for me. Fortunately, having a VERY supportive hubby, who actually finds and purchases OOAK artists dolls as total surprises and have adored every one, helps a lot. xxx I'll be checking out your other confession video but I actually came to see your WeeBitz unboxing, but I can't find it. I buy used dolls and I do appreciate when people sell their used dolls and clothing ...I also bought a doll sculpt that I had previously sold haha.....my big thing now is I have set a 24 hour "cooling" off time before I purchase a doll because I am running out of space ...many times I decide within that 24 hours I have less impulse ......also I love to look at peoples doll houses but I have PLEDGED to never buy my own doll house {thats a whole nother big ticket hobby }....I use velcro to hold wigs or elastic bands around the head .........I can tell all the time that you treasure your hobby ....the rainy day doll is a great idea ,thanks ....just wondering ,have you ever lost a doll in the mail ?.........................love your channel

The 24 hour rule is a really, really great rule. Maybe something I will try to make myself stick to for 2021...as for having a lost doll, not exactly but sort of. I had a doll delivered to the wrong address but THANKFULLY the man called me and I was able to go pick it up. The PO had been looking for it for a few days because it was signature required and somehow they delivered it miles away. Just thankful the guy called me. I also have 2 dolls in transit from Germany that I'm starting to get mildly concerned about but I'm hoping for the best 🤞

Hi, I have a question for you. Do you own a Mdvanii? Hope I have her name correct, she sold at F.A.O in N.Y.C during early 1990, @ $500. 1/6 scale, over the top detailed picture frame packaged accessories including pieces like cuff bracelet 14k. gold, wooden chair, chandelier, etc. I remember her as French, there was also an option for assorted wig set. Just googled the Doll, Billy Boy design, his Barbie book was fabulous.

Hey I’m an accountant, lol and spreadsheet’s has ruined my 20/20.... A few of your confession’s mirror mine. Everyone who know’s me, know’s doll’s are my thing. I stopped hiding it in my early 20’s, I’m 40 now. Most new people I cross paths with when I tell them, I usually see them lighten up with interest. I had one cousin years ago tried to shame , saying “you still play with baby dolls ?”, well I nipped that right on the spot, but most folk’s support it, and give me doll related gifts... I also save something new in the box to open when I’m in need of a pick-me-up, and it work’s every time. The only doll clothing I keep stored in order are my Smart Dolls, and American Girl, the rest are in a bit of disarray, but it work’s for me. I would love to have a larger doll room, but we would have to buy a larger house , and I can hear my husband’s mouth now “for a larger doll room?” not happening anytime soon. My home is 3 level condo with a 4th level loft, so we can’t build another room. We don’t have children “by choice” so I’m already taking up enough space .... If I were you, and my house was paid in full I’d build another room, quick fast, and in a hurry. 🤓

I must confess I sometimes leave a new doll unopened for long periods of time, it’s because I feel I should prioritize other things like cleaning the house etc. Life gets in the way, I have a glorious Minifée Woosoo whose head I actually sent to a Hong Kong artist for a faceup, I made a dressmakers dummy to her measurements so I could sew clothes for her without damaging her body and yet she has been in her box for close to 2 years, safe from my cats. One day the time will be right I will take her out of the box and it will feel like Christmas.

My BJD clothes are all in two big baggies. Each outfit is in a small baggie. But they’re just stuffed into baggies, so are all wrinkly. I hate selling too...worst part of the hobby. Just started in BJDs, so haven’t sold any yet, but I’ve sold a number of Reborns. Box packing and mailing are the worst! I recently broke the little piece on the foot that holds the string! i wouldnt really say im a doll collector but I have 5 AG dolls I loooooove and someday I want a pretty bjd doll (they are just sooooo expensive) However I love making the clothing and looking at doll clothes and outfits! I like to sit with a doll when Im just chillin in the house, not all the time but sometimes! Right now Ive been chilling with my AG samantha who I finally just got!

If you want to try to repair your doll's toe, you have to drill a tiny wire in both the toe and foot to give it support. Just gluing will make it come off. I know there are tutorial if you look up fixing broken fingers for bjds.

I missed your first set of confessions. I'll watch. I don't really tell anyone I collect dolls. There are no doll collectors around me I know of. That seems to be my life. I loved reading as a kid (still do), but most kids I was around hated reading and thought it strange that I liked it. I feel dolls would be the same. I guess my confession is that I like to keep it my special secret. People find out because my family likes to tell people and I don't care if they know. Mostly I think people don't care, especially if you are confident because they cant sway your opinion. I think family is the toughest. They think its immature. Cool story about how you went from teacher to accountant. I'm a history teacher and I know what you mean by highs and lows. I love history too much to give it up and when I have student admit that I impacted their life because of my kindness, it makes you feel good like maybe a difference is really being made. Its sure not what I planned for. I just love history and love to tell stories. It's funny how sometimes what stands out to students is the care and character of their teacher over the content being taught. I guess that's a different confession altogether. Actually the real confession is that I stink at math and could never be an accountant.

I wouldn’t use hot glue on the wigs. I use those self adhesive Velcro sticky pads instead. That way I can change the wig later on if I want too. I do collect doll boxes. I take out the dolls, but I do have the boxes. That way if I resell them later, I have the boxes to keep the price higher. My only exception is Monster high dolls. Those don’t seem to matter if you have the boxes, or not. I only have a few of them in boxes.

Oh yes!! Everyone at work is subscribed -- I don't think they watch but they did subscribe 🤣 My mom and grandma also watch fairly frequently and I usually post my videos to Facebook. That's a great question! I do have a very small selection of doll books and props, but I wouldn't say I collect them. You should remove the hanger from inside that cupboard and put a clear Perspex chest like those ones you use for make up with the pull out drawers then put like dresses in one drawer, tops in other, bottoms in another and so on. Would be easier to find stuff that way.

I usually don’t care about what people think. Everyone knows that I collect dolls. Years ago, I got a Barbie for Christmas. I will bring an American Girl doll with me. I don’t have much space. I can’t choose a doll to sell, because they are part of my doll family. I will give a doll to a family member. If I need to sell something, it would probably have to be some doll clothes or items. I only had a less expensive doll line and collect. I gave those away. I also got rid of books. I will get rid of something of mine, before getting rid of a doll. I have considered selling furniture to get more dolls. I only keep Barbies in boxes. But, I love to dress and look at my American Girl dolls. They come out of the boxes right away.

I bag doll clothes in ziplocs and label them. Buy the printer paper that they make for address labels since you can write on them and peel them off. Take photos and have a Pinterest that you can organize them into.
