Isn't he brilliant..? The way Carl introduces the subject and tells the story just draws me in. And then he cites inconsistencies, and turns us all into critics, because we start to know what to look for, at a price point. He even cites the caveat that Rivian builds to a high standard, and probably higher than they'd sell for, whereas this Jeep simulates high standards, but he's already told you how to spot the lack of quality and the inconsistencies. So while this is a subject that I don't jump to [give me a motor, a bearing quality and I'm in, e.g.] Carl just teaches so much that he's pretty much unmissable. Thanks Carl for another great video.

I am an old retired guy. I was lucky to have many toys in the past from planes to exotic cars. Even though nice to have living room type furniture in cars, prefer more minimalist modern interiors. Lower maintenance and easier cleaning with maybe less msrp. Spend the extra savings with minimalistic interior on a BEV vs hybrid

I’m with you. Interiors don’t need to be shockingly stark, but less overwrought is appreciated. Fewer cup holders too. If I recall, my Tacoma access cab truck has 11 cup holders for what is in most instances a two person vehicle. Storage nooks are nice, but something not round like cup would a lot better. Do people really hydrate that much while riding in cars?

Good review Carl. Agree tail fate needs a hook to hold it down if you are carrying an extended load. Also...Jeep.used to have an opening tailgate window. We really miss this! For those with a dog, the opening tailgate window was ideal when parked up for grocery shopping or leaving the dog in the vehicle while you are temporarily away! Early Grand Cherokees had this feature. It is so good, especially for all you dog lovers. Its also extremely useful for carrying timber extended load etc. I so miss this feature on my current 2020 Grand Cherokee! Thanks, Frank

I really hate these kinds of "throw in everything!" kinds of designs for interiors. It just looks confusing and dizzying and the vast majority of the surfaces are hard to keep clean. I just imagine a snotty nosed kid smearing green gunk down all of this and then trying to clean all of these crazy seams. And why is the screen 1 inch wide like a weird paddle? Seems like a total nightmare for installation and it would have looked better to just close that off and not have that screen "connect" to the other screen. God forbid that screen get broken... which seems inevitable... I would hate to be the guy at some dealership who has to try to replace that without breaking that thin section of glass. And you are right Carl, those controls are terrible. I guess there is nobody left at Stellantis who gives one flying flip about ergonomics. Not that Jeeps were ever ergonomic, but the folks at Chrysler used to make a big deal about it.

Great review Carl! The four hooks in the rear - on estate (station wagon) cars you commonly have a cargo net going to the four hooks, which stops small loads moving around in the rear. Maybe that's the thinking here?

Carl, your remark that manufacturers don't provide tie down hooks to hold the tailgate/trunk for long loads - all vehicle come with the perfect hook - the locking catch. just loop the rope/bungee or shock cord on the hook and manually flick it closed. When releasing the door operate the electric or manual opening mechanism. I always use this method.

I think a lot of customers would appreciate a swing out tire carrier option from factory. I don't know why that stopped being a thing. You can find tire carriers that plug in to the hitch but not after market bumpers that have the hinge on the corner of the bumper. I don't really get that one either. Great video, thanks. I would have liked to see a tape measure in the cargo area, maybe lay down in the back for perspective. Car camping is super popular still. Also, I didn't see any AC power in the back. What's up with that? Cheers.

Love the wrapped surfaces and vents, but everything from that piano black and down could have gotten the axe as far as I'm concerned. Whoever designs the hard plastic vertical section of the dash must hate tall people. Mazda is the only company that has ever designed a knee-friendly dash in the past decade.

Mazda tends toward wide center console which blocks legroom and spraying in my experience. The GC has long seat travel and is good for up to 6'7" I would say. I'm 6'4" and fit very well.

I recently purchase the Summit Reserve 4xe. Thank you for the interior review. The only thing that really bugs me thus far, not a lot of time with the car yet, there's no way to hold up the rear compartment cover. I just spent the last few days working on ceramic coating and had to lift the entire car to put on jack stands. It was a pain getting the jack out and putting it back in. I can only assume that pulling the spare tire out would be even more challenging. Maybe I'm missing something but this really seems stupid. Also, there are really quite a few differences in materials and parts with the Summit Reserve, and even so when compared to the Summit. I will be treating the interior materials and cleaning often to try to maintain the look and reduce wear. I hope it holds up with light to moderate use, especially with teenage boys in the back. I will really be relying on the ventilated seats in the rear to keep the soccer sweat and odor down, thanks again for Munro reviews.

I like that spare where it is. Why? Did you ever try to get a spare tire to come down on the 2001-2007 Chrysler Town & Country w/o Sto n Go? Good luck, the bracket rusts in place and even though the cable drops, the the tire remains stuck up against the trunk floor pan! Also the painted steel wheel rusts bring out in the salt too!

Amazing how interiors have changed through the years. Hard plastics everywhere in rental cars to interiors in this jeep. Cars are becoming so expensive especially when making 2 car payments to go to work on a depreciating liability. Maybe when we have FSD a car could be an Asset. Probably too expensive for most to own. More Uber, ride sharing, etc.

I just watched Jason Hill describe the design process for Aptera. The elegance of the Aptera approach vs the Jeep's traditional 30-people-in-a-room-discussing-dashboard approach is part of what leads to a new car for $100m versus $1b. Glad I sold my unreliable Grand Cherokee and glad I have an Aptera on order.

I watched from start to finish. In my younger days, I worked as a mechanic and I never thought of all the parts that go into an interior. Note: The bad words I said about engineers while working on the vehicles, they didn't design them to be worked on. The assembly on the line doesn't consider the mechanic or customer when they have to be repaired, which they all do.

Those light switches for the headlights take me back to my last gas car---an Audi Q5. In order to know if my lights were on or if my running lights were on, I had to take my eyes off the road too long. It got so that I needed to pull over somewhere and stop the car to look in order to drive safely. Whoever still designs cars this way has no clue about the real world of driving. Thx for the show and tell.

After moving to Tesla vehicles, will never go back the disjointed UIs again. This vehicle it total chaos. Exterior lighting controls, have to lean down away from watching the road to adjust. Sure, some will say that it is automated. Ok, that makes it worse. Because the semi rare times the exterior lights need adjusting, not using switches becomes a bigger problem. Lack of muscle/mind memory how to use. Same for all the other “controls” for the various functions.m different design/moving switches, knobs, touch screens make this Jeep dash function a mess. I am not picking only on Jeep. The 2023 Toyota Sienna hybrid we have rented for biz purposes, is the same. What is crazy, these legacy companies when they create a “Iceless carriage” electrify some/mostly ICE platforms, they think users want a disjointed dash/UI their ICE vehicles have. Stupid. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EVs dash/UI and interiors are so “Soul by night” dangerous (to make dash instrument scan or UI changes while driving) crazy town. As a former G80 ajd G90 owner, I know. Sit inside their EV platforms, worse. Salesman was stupid enough to claim all this shiny object chrome, brushed whatever, dark/invisible switches was so superior to the “Tesla is cheap has nothing on Genesis” statement. Thanks goodness for Tesla, all these legacy companies will not change. Even the best IP stealing in the world Koreans (CHlC0Ms right their with them) are dazed and so far clueless that in the end people do not want a horse carriage converted to ICE (using the early 20th century example)… People want whole new designs/UI centered on EV transformation. So say we all. Another great videos. Thanks!
