Speaking as a meteorologist, weather will constrain flight OPS on occasion. Rains, high winds, vertical wind shear, icing, and lightening strikes come to mind. VTOL near rooftop heliports can be especially dangerous (limited hover time and obstructions). Short flight times, near real-time weather radar, and highly accurate WX forecasts serve to mitigate these risks. But it's likely some special instrumentation and procedures will be needed at some heliports (FAA Certification?) Also flying is uncomfortable and scary for some who avoid small aircraft travel like the plague. Believe e-VTOL market way overstated by most. Yet love the cool factor and these guys deserve my support so investing some coin at present. What's to say, a fool and his money are soon parted.
@tmayorca87704 күн бұрын
People drive and fly in the same conditions everyday. Aircraft use static wicks for lightning strikes which would be rare anyway especially since aircraft avoid flying in storms. So you'll either be stuck in traffic during a storm or waiting it out at the vertiport.
@spacebound196917 сағат бұрын
I think flying is just so unusual still that many people aren't as comfortable as they could be. Once it's cheap enough for you to fly every day you'll quickly get over whatever fears for the extra time savings.

I do believe this will take off but as one comment said, there are those that will avoid it because of the size of the EVTOL. It is a bit of a scary thing to ride in at hight altitudes. However, there will be enough of a market to be profitable. If you know your history this has been done before, air transport to and from the airport from city centers. cheaper then adding new lanes to roads and or building tunnels to the airport.where this is going to shine is military applications. I see this replacing the Helicopter.

As an investor in their groundbreaking technology, I am proud to be part of this journey towards revolutionizing urban air mobility. Seeing the dedication to engineering excellence and sustainable solutions like this makes me believe that the spirit of the Wright Brothers lives on. Electric cars and trucks require asphalt roads which are made from toxic oil sludge. This form of potentially carbon-free transport can use grass lawns for takeoff and landing.

Those controls scare me -- I would feel a lot better if Archer's CTO included some statement about how you can instantly override the hand-holding for manual attitude control in an emergency. Like the hand-holding is great, but focusing 100% on how the system will not allow you to make any mistakes gives off strong Boeing MCAS vibes.

Complexity and gee whiz manufacturing like 3D printing etc etc is not a positive thing but shows how the basic concept is itself deficient and needs extreme measures to even be tolerable ( trying to make up for the inherent inefficiency of both vertical take off and batteries, the combination is the worst possible) ATOL together with ICE power obsoletes the unthinking mad evtol rush to economic and safety doom. The cost of composite construction seals their fate as virtual hand building cannot be afforded or mass produced.

@KadaCombs4 күн бұрын
It won't be the price that holds this back commercially, it will be the consumer and weather they are comfortable flying in that or not. Size of planes and ships matter, the bigger they are the more comfortable the average person is with it, its a mind game at that point. but this will work militarily for sure.

MUNRO live - Sandy , at end of the day e-VTOL has no legs. only a very FEW are doing it. Doing e-VTOL right is very EXPENSIVE and does NOT scale well. THINK about , why in 2024 we dont have PUBLIC Commerical heliports on top of Buildings anymore ? (1970's). very EXPENSIVE to operate & maintain. Expensive COST to customer. Helicopters & e-VTOL cannot operate in BAD weather, high winds, heavy RAIN, Whiteout SNOW. currently LESS convenient than taking BUS, Uber, Taxi. landing pads HAVE TO be away from People & WONT be allowed to Fly above HOMES & City.
@COSMEREAUDIO5 күн бұрын
Ok smartass
@tmayorca87704 күн бұрын
Helicopters are naturally going to be more expensive to operate and maintain due to so many moving parts and all the vibrations. E-Vtols are the opposite. They will be flying well above people and homes just like any other type of aircraft does within the rules.
@helifanodobezanozi7689Күн бұрын
Also, the idea is to COMBINE them with cars. A car will pick you up at your house and take you to your neighborhood landing pad, which can be situated in a vacant lot or on top of a parking structure. (These are electric, so ALL THEY NEED IS A CHARGER!!!) Joby, Archer's competitor will likely partner with Uber, since it was formerly Uber Air. Archer can team up with Waymo or Lyft. Or, they can simply START THEIR OWN CAR SERVICE!!! 😂 As for weather conditions, you don't actually know what weather they are capable of flying in!!!!
@helifanodobezanozi7689Күн бұрын
Lastly, there is Medivac. Same idea, neighborhood pads, but with ambulances transporting patients. Think about it, in some cities it can take 45min just to reach a patient during rush hour! That time can be cut in half!!!

This was interesting, but clearly about trying to attract more investors. The reality is this is a couple of decades out for mass adoption. If just 20% of US traffic would go VTOL, the skies would get very crowded and likely annoying most citizens. I will hope AI pilots, safety systems, etc, will prevent most accidents. It will take on serious accident, like crashing into a school, and the industry will find it even harder to reach mass acceptance. No doubt, the first few consumer versions will be for the wealthy the way private helicopters are today. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but investors should be very cautious about any VTOL company.

@@markplott4820 Lack of safety consideration contributed to the 1970's failures, I'd say it was the main reason imo. But with the Technology of eVtol, I believe things will be different as long as safety is of top priority. Commercially, air taxis ( mainly to airports from busy congested city centers ) search and rescue/ emergency services along with military applications makes the most sense to reach and maintain profitability.
