The real favouritism is in selection. Take Gus McCarthy as one example. We’ve been told over and over that the reasons the likes of Gavin Coombes isn’t picked is because “he’s not familiar with the Irish setup”. This for a player that has been the URC Champions top player, yet when Dan Sheehan (Leinster #1) and Roman Kelleher (Leinster #2) are injured they bring up Leinster #3 Gus McCarthy? How familiar is he with the Ireland setup ahead of Barron (Munster #1)? It doesn’t add up. We’ve also seen how players exposure to the Ireland setup and the top coaching in the country helps significantly, so why was Porter (#3 at Leinster at the time) given such exposure ahead of Kilcoyne (Munster #1 at the time) like McCarthy is now? It all stinks of favouritism and a drive to ensure that Leinster have better success. We may be the architects of our own downfall more often than not down south but any of the provinces would have been better served with their #1 or #2 ahead of the Leinster #3. The Irish team is losing its connection with those of us outside the M50.

Because the players you've mentioned are shit. If they weren't, then munster wouldn't talk about their "front row issues" and whinge at needed to sign extra NIQ lads to cover. Jager was brought in to help and fast tracked to Ireland camp. Pretty sure lads you've mentioned have been injured when Gus was called. Coombs plays on of the most competitive positions in the country, there's others ahead of him. Simple as

Coombes had been told his work rate isn’t good enough. If he can’t be bothered to improve it why suggest to bring him in ahead of any of the current back row? Who have done the job and know how to do it
@patman14223 сағат бұрын
at times in the noughties, 7 of the 8 forwards were from Munster. The bottom line is that the current crop, bar Beirne, O'Mahony and Jager, are not good enough

Truth of it is If Munster produced 13 Ireland regulars, they would have the CC. The national team makes all the money.

I am a Leinster fan, but I have always loved Munster and the great players they have given to the green shirt. Must admit though I did get a tad annoyed by Munster fans cheering on Leinsters opponents in the Champions Cup final. Maybe they are the real fans they claim to be, but I would never support any foreign team over any Irish province ever.
@IrishGooner5 сағат бұрын
Don’t forget the ROG factor there. If BOD was managing a team playing Munster in a champions cup final, I’m sure you would be the same.

The draft system would be a disaster and probably collapse Irish rugby through the shear unknowns of unintended consequences.

Leinster were missmanaged and slow to grasp the reality of the early days of professionalism. Once they ironed out those kinks, they were able to harvest their full potential
@IrishGooner5 сағат бұрын
Eh, no. They had a fortune pumped into them and became the Man City of rugby.

This topic needs to be talked about more. It's great for Leinster and really bad for the other 3 provinces.

I suppose Leinster are to blame as well for the turnover in Munster Head Coaches over the last few years.
@seanofarrell889623 сағат бұрын
I think it increases the amount of opportunities for players from the other 3 provences to get younger talent, like increasing rugby schools.
@fionnmckool18 сағат бұрын
This is bullshit. Munster has been mismanaged for years now. Leinster have a bigger population and these more players. Dublin alone have more that all munster never mind the 11 other counties.

Munster replaced one foreign centre with another after another after another for two decades. From Trevor Halstead to Tipoki & Mafi to de Villiers and Tuitupou, Laulala, to Francis Saili et al. All excellent players, but Munster have failed to produce any capped centre since Murphy 15 years ago. They’ve also failed to produce any home grown forwards since POM. And finally they’ve also been bailed out on the debt of the White Elephant in Limerick which is only full when Leinster come every Christmas. And they choose to pay for the use of Páirc Uí Chaoimh instead of utilising their own / IRFU asset for games v SA & Crusaders.
@TheKnock-OnEffect21 сағат бұрын
Excellent point about the centers!

I reckon the Edogbo brothers will change that, future Irish internationals for sure IMO, raw power, + Barry Gleeson coming through too and then there's POC's nephew Evan, 1 or 2 quality props with combined with some of their talent coming through and they could be back up in the latter stages of Europe again, from a Leinster fan who has always loved watching Munster as his his second team, Munster have a special energy about them, the way the champions cup group stages are now almost works against Munster where before every game in the groups was so do or die that every game was a full house cauldron atmosphere but in the current format being less intense I actually feel the lack of resistance and the fact that Thomond Park wasn't even sold out against Stade Francais, it has removed some of the fuel and firepower that drove Munster, when the group stages were do or die constantly, no matter the odds against , Munster always found a way... still think Munster have enough coming through to be positive going forward, things will come good
@TheKnock-OnEffect2 сағат бұрын
Absolutely agree! Edogbo x2, Ahern, Quinn, Gleeson, the future is bright! Also spot on about Thomond Park and the Champions Cup! I reckon the Stade match would have been filled only for the Storm!

This video does 0 to address Munsters complete inability to develop their own talent and the complete shambles their front office has been. Same in Ulster. Bias nonsense
@eamonlyons8069Күн бұрын
Crowley, Nash, Earls, Ahern, Kendellen, Zebo, O'Mahony, Casey, Murray all recent developments. That argument is defunct. Leinster have huge funds and resources. Munster don't have near that number. It's false to say that. It feels like Leinster fans don't care for the rest of the country as long as they get their guys picked in green even if they regularly embarrass the nation at WCs because Leinster success which has been hard to come by of late, is more important.
@DM-rp9ik4 сағат бұрын
100% Ulster's CEO put them in the lurch, and Munster can't stop making the same mistakes with head coaches. They should fly Lancaster over and ask him what he needs. Instead, they will repeat the same mistake of hiring someone already in their with no head coach experience and likely get the same results.
@eoinmiller56204 сағат бұрын
@DM-rp9ik or Felix Jones or Noel McNamara... just anything. But the video hardy talks about Ulster or Connacht to add further context. Ironically it's claiming the irfu can't look past Leinster, but then goes on to look past the other 2 provinces mentioned. Poor stuff
@DM-rp9ik4 сағат бұрын
@eoinmiller5620 Yeah, ironically. Connacht have to a large extent, got things in order. Leinster used to be a basket case, then they hired Checka Shmidt and Lancaster. 3 very important decisions that ultimately shaped their last 15 years.
@eoinmiller56204 сағат бұрын
@@DM-rp9ik Connacht are on the verge of supplying the national team with its next SH in young murphy, and its next center partnership in Forde abd Gavin. Sam Ilo looks like a great talent too. They have less resources, sure, but are really singing from the IRFU hyme sheet and it shows.
