Any other artist would've come on the show & just did the version they had recorded...this was actually a reworking of the song. It's been said that Prince was never satisfied with most of his songs & was always reworking & tweeking them each time he performed. "Kiss" most notably.

@@TheKellma The Muppets appearance was recorded in 1996 on October 28 but not aired until late 1997 because the show was cancelled then brought back, so Prince must have done this just 6 days after his baby died which was on October 22, having only been born 6 days before that. Hard to believe Prince went ahead with this show considering that timeline :/
