Funny thing, he described a dog being flayed I think in one of his audio novels, though it was only a few sentences, unless it was a cat, haven't heard the book in a while. It was a small animal. Just a few sentences to convey the horror of a world being torn apart on a reality bending level. Course that's the SSTWL universe, not his cinematic universe.

FINALLY! Finally someone got a great take on Doll’s story! Not just saying “Boho the writers wasted her entire character” No. personally, I see her as a darker reflection of UZI. An Uzi who was alone from the start, doomed to fail at the whims of a psychopathic skin puppet wearing monstrosity also known as the Solver. Thank you for being the one who finally made a great point about Doll
@Estherceez3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don't think her character was "wasted" exactly, more like she suffered from a general flaw of the series speedrunning its plot and not giving as much breathing room for characters and development as I would have liked. For me, her death felt like if V had stayed dead after her sacrifice, so technically a mostly complete arc, but missing something key to making it truly FEEL complete if that makes any sense. Also, I think the way her corpse was shown in the end of episode 8 left a bad taste in some people's mouths and I think that's part of why Doll fans reacted so strongly to how she was treated.
@venomousbunny98753 ай бұрын
I thought her only purpose was attracting DDLC fans like how when Glitch Productions/the Lerdwitchagul brothers were all on their own they had to give Tari a barefoot form in order to lure foot fetishists to watch Meta Runner.
@anastasia_8523 ай бұрын
My issue with Doll is the way her death was handled, NOT that she's dead. She's indeed a very sad character when you think about it and the show pretty much ignored that and turned her into a joke in the end credits. Literally any kind of acknowledgement of her about how screwed over she got by the AS like the rest of the cast would've been alright imo.

Imo the somewhat cringey dialogue is a feature, not a bug. It’s a small detail, but there’s something uniquely unsettling about the fact that it’s machines becoming flesh (instead of the other way around.) One of the best moments in the series was in Ep 7, when we first see Uzi is actually bleeding, not just leaking oil. It’s a shock, but also something that has been going on under the surface this whole time - remember the suspicious red stains on doll’s bathtub. We saw Uzi’s change, but we didn’t realize how deep it went beyond the wings and tail. Ironically, as the drones become more like us, humans, the creepier and more uncanny they become. (CYN-Tessa being the pinnacle of this)

I really wish we got more stuff like this in media, the show has made me realize how much I actually enjoy that theme. Looking back at Liam's previous works, I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason both him and Glitch didn't lean even more into it was because it would get flagged for graphic content by KZbin. There’s a reason why N is my favorite character. It’s not because of his attitude, nor about his trauma, but about the sheer depth of his character. And his attitude and trauma only serve as compliments to his bigger character. And Tessa? Well, at least Tessa wasn’t alive for most of this horrific story. She experienced one horror and then f***ing died. N can’t die even if he wanted to. Cyn had backups that she can use to just bring him back. It’s as J said “you know there’s no escape, even in death”. So while Tessa died, N is stuck having to live with every single horror that has ever happened to him. Forever. Basically, take any Murder Drones character… that character has been traumatized more than any human would be able to handle. It’s almost funny to me if it wasn’t so horrifying. Murder Drones is an amazing show, driven by amazing characters.

Cyn/Tessa in particular feels like the final form of Liam Vickers character design.

I watched the pilot ep of murder drones when it came out with some friends, thought it was alright, and then completely forgot about it and didn’t watch it until a month before the final episode’s release. If you had told me back then that the story was going to involve eldritch and biomechanical body horror in it I don’t think I would have believed you. Or if I did, I’d be very skeptical of the quality. And yet it’s absolutely one of my favorite animated series. It’s a bit rushed, yes, but holy smokes. The horror is top notch, and I’m such a big fan of the quirky dialog. The final battle being done to a theoretical Nightcore song felt hella nostalgic as a kid who grew up in that era. Uzi feels straight from the 2010s and it’s great.

This video was very well done and well put together! The audio mixing is masterful, the overall content of the video is interesting, and the title and thumbnail does a good job hooking potential viewers! I do have a few notes on some things you can do to potentially elevate your content. Do take this with a grain of salt since I am just some guy on the internet, but just know that this is coming out of a place of support for you and your content and what I think it has the potential to become. Overall, these are just some thoughts I came up with while I was watching. I mostly have only 3 notes. My first idea is simply to shorten the intro, a full minute is too long for some viewers and they're gonna leave after getting bored, especially if they aren't already Murder Drones fans. My second note is that when you say that no one else gets the genre right, it can often help to provide some examples of some other series that attempted it to less than stellar results. My last and final note is that this video was essentially an overview of everything you loved about Murder Drones, like the music and characters, which is very nice, but I felt like a lot of that didn't tie in super well with the video's main topic of this being a genre no one else gets right, and I think it could help if your points were a little more focused. Remember, content/entertainment is all about promise and payoff, so when you have a video title that promises the video will be about how well the series fits into a certain genre that isn't well explored and then the video turns into you talking about why you like the series, some viewers can feel dissatisfied because there was very little payoff for their invested time in terms of what they clicked on your video for. Overall, I loved this video and what you're doing here! Your thoughts on specific characters were very interesting and thought provoking. Personally, I hadn't thought about Doll all that much and was actually pretty confused about her motives for most of the show, but you've painted her in a new light for me and I actually quite like that interpretation of her. These are ultimately just suggestions and you can run your channel however you like and probably still get an audience with how high quality this is. I wish you all the best and look forward to what you do next!

My biggest issue with the series is that all the potential, dare i say, is untapped. Not fleshed out (no pun) whatsoever. Whoa there's gore inside J's corpse? Forget about it here's a cool fight scene. This character hints to us that using absolute solver is tied to overheating (and also creating gore), therefore forcing those using/used by it to resort to cannibalism? Forget about it here's a cool fight scene. Uzi's solver turned a thing into a living, writhing pile of flesh and gave her fleshy body parts? Here's a cool fight scene and THEN forget about it because all that was for the sake of letting her fly in 2 episodes. They're bleeding out of their solver eyes, that are somehow getting damaged instead of healed by solver? Irrelevant. Also humans created A CURE FOR ABSOLUTE SOLVER? Surely all that fascinating setup goes somewhere to create an absolute masterpiece of an eldritch biomechanics plot, right? The finale will clear it all up instead of saying forget about it here's a cool fight scene? Right?

I only wish it had more than 8 episodes. Also, Liam HAS been doing this for a very long time, he's made several pilot episodes for cartoons before, you can find them on his channel. He's also got this awesome short series called interceion cube or something, it's an animatic and honestly is probably where 99% of the inspiration for this series came from, even the art style is somewhat similar, though limited by its 2d nature for sure. This show could've aired in 2010 and people would've gone nuts over it, the writing just absolutely fits the era. This is 2000 10s cartoon for sure. Well, with such a title I was expecting a discussion over the biomechanical horror genre. What it means, what it representes and how murder drones uses the tropes and codes of this genre to deliver it's message, or enhance the themes of the genre. Not just a music and character recap. It is interesting to mention them, but why not explore it a bit more ?

Hey! Totally new to the channel, loved the video! Only note that I have would be that when I send the video to my friends I also ask them to skip to the 1:13 mark. Personally, as a Murder Drones fan I LOVE IT. I'm just trying to reach out to my friends with a fantastic synopsis of why this series is so great, and I felt that the opening might take away from that. That being said, I'm totally new to your channel and your style, and I absolutely love it as a fan of the series. Please keep doing your own thing! As a Murder Drones fan, no notes! As someone who I'd like to introduce that series to through your video, ONLY the one note. Look forward to more of your videos! PLEASE DISREGARD ANY NOTES THO, do your own thing! thx bye!

Honestly though, the intro works GREAT. Just might last a little too long for newcomers? Feel like a 50% time reduction would really sell the best highlights while capturing newcomers' views, but that's just me talking out of my ass.

Yeah, I think you will like discovering lore of Rain World and Ultrakill, because in Rain World Five Pebbles' story is one more biomechanical horror, where he literally rots from inside and can't do anything with it, even die, while in Ultrakill we have war machines who work on the blood and because of it stuck in endless battle. Especially Gutterman's lore, this thing is dark

This is the only video with comments that compliment murder drones instead of saying “my biggest problem with the show is…”
@connorjohnson85903 ай бұрын
The series is great and I hope they get a second season, but I DO have some grievances with it that I hope they manage to clear up in the future. The show's plot is pretty scratterbrained, and while everything was very expertly foreshadowed, there were many distracting bits that made parsing the plot behind the horror and the comedy that much more difficult. As a casual viewer I had to consult the mighty Google. I still can't forgive the show for making the drones basically reskinned humans. While it never bleeds into the main plot, there's so many instances of the side characters being straight up braindead stupid that It becomes outright distracting. These humanoid robots have too many unnessicary similarities to humans that go completely unexplained. Some concrete examples: - Robots forgetting stuff they just saw (like in the camping episode when they forgot the name of the chapter of that book) is a bit silly. How can you not have some way of retaining basic information as a robot? - Not having basic things you'd expect a robot to have for visual and plot convenience, like phones, built in flashlights, etc. Why do some of them have GLASSES?? - Why do they breathe? Like in this clip, 3:20, why is the drone lady breathing?? If they had a good reason to explain these things, it wouldn't have hurt to explore it or at least include some sort of tidbit in writting on it, like them breathing to cool down their circuits, stuff like that, instead of forcing us to make up headcannons to cover up these sloppy plot holes. Pretty much all the above can be explained by 'it's to make it more dramatic', or simply for aesthetics. The show has two things going for it, and by golly do they COMPLETELY offset the mess those flaws, because the ANIMATION and the CHARACTERS are just utterly Perfect. Especially the animation, absolutely Hollywood level stuff. I have no problem rewatching each episode over and over because the animation is just drop dead gorgeous. Everything from the character's manerisms conveyed through motion, the shading on all the robot's shiny surfaces and hair, the area backgrounds and object rendering, everything is perfect. This is one of the most immersive animation experiences I've had because of the sheer attention to detail.
