The way Lindsay Jones delivers that one line that's like "Yes hello Mr. Ambrosius sir" is the most Lindsay Jones delivery ever. The line between Ruby and Lindsay kinda blurred there. It's a great example of how it feels like they've been adjusting their performance for Ruby lately. They sound less chirpy and upbeat, a little more grown-up. Obviously, this is for necessity of the tone and gravity of this volume so I want to see if this continues once the tension eases up at some point when the heroes have a chance to catch their breath.

There's also the fact that Monty chose Lindsay specifically to voice Ruby because he felt it would be the best fit. Most of the voice actors in the show (including Monty himself, Burnie, and Matt Hullum (whose character has yet to appear)) had to audition for their roles, but for Team RWBY, Monty went around picking who he felt was right. For example, I remember in the Volume 1 commentary, they said that he had specifically said "Barbara should be Goldilocks."

Ambrosius only had a little time for his introduction, yet he grew on me fast. He was very well written. Also, the solution to save Penny plastered the dumbest grin on my face for hours. The hype for this Volume is real.

He didn’t make a new body for Penny, he made a new body for the virus. The Penny we have now is her old body but with all her hardware removed. That’s why the robot one disappeared when they made the door, because it was the thing that Ambrosias created

Since I've seen the Fate Series, the idea of a Soul making a body/becoming a physical body is not a new thing to me and I could accept that. But they had to add the line saying about "His work". That destroys the Loophole and makes it a Plothole, which I'm sure tons of people are going to not realise and think its so clever.

@@thomaschitham3487 If you watch closely when we see the robot body's point of view, there are a few frames where all the robot sees of Penny is just a pitch black figure with Aura shimmer on it, and it makes me wonder if Penny's new body _is_ constructed of Aura and that that's what CRWBY was trying to convey through that shot. It makes me wonder what would happen to her if her Aura broke. Would her body disappear and her soul plop down on the ground like what happens to the gems in Steven Universe? In which case, just like in SU, they would have to keep her soul safe while waiting for it to regenerate enough Aura to form a new body.

Seriously, WHEN HAVE THEY LOST SINCE VOLUME 3? -Fight with Tyrion: Win -Fight with Town Killing Grimm: Win -Fight with Apathy Grimm: Win -Fight with Adam, Cinder, Emerald, Mercury, etc: Win -Fight with Adam: Decisive Win (Adam dies) -Fight with Ace Ops: Win -Fight for Mantle (Grimm Battle): Decisive Win -Fight with Salem: Pyrrhic Victory -Fight with Ironwood: Win I ask again, when have they won? They may lose individual fights on occasion like Weiss getting Speared by Cinder in Volume 5, but those consequences never stick or cause any lasting impact. And they've NEVER lost a full-fledged battle with "Stakes" before. The only battle they lost was the Battle of Beacon, and even then the heroes did manage to defeat Cinder through Ruby's deus ex machina silver eyes and that was 5 volumes ago.

Arnold: saying you gotta be specific with what you ask Jinn to get the answer you want out of her Volume 6: What is Ozpin hiding from us? Me: I dunno dude, seems like Jinn favors vague questions and gives more info when you're not specific in order to cover all possible meanings of what you asked.

The Jinn scene always bugged me, especially as we reached volume 8 and found out that the spirits of the relics seem to operate by "literal genie" rules in every case except when Ruby asked that question. Out of universe this allows the writers to go nuts with exposition. In universe, Jinn answered a question about events that happened to Ozma instead of Ozpin, that Ozma himself wasn't witness to, and that Ozma was never told about, as well as really stretching the definition of the word secret while being selective about doing so because if Jinn was going to tell the cast everything Ozpin never told anyone about his past lives they would be there for 100 years having her go over everything he ever did. Even if Jinn focused on only "secrets" from those lives they would be there for a while going over everyine he ever betrayed, every person he ever killed, the women he cheated on or anything else, Jinn's answer is simultaneously too vague in scope for a specific question, while simultaneously being too narrow by confining itself to two lives for how she was pretending the question was asked. Of course, come volume x we are going to find out the big twist is that Salem can be defeated, Jinn was just using exact wording in response to Ozma's exact wording, so we know he isn't going to to be the one to defeat her (or at least not by herself). This will impart the lesson that Jinn also works off exact wording rules with the sole exception of Ruby's question.

I love the references to the word 'fall' in this volume and in volume 3 (because I got major volume 3 vibes from the opening). "When it falls", "fall of Beacon", "risk the fall", and now "don't fall"

Everyone is throwing around their theories about who's going to "fall". My personal guess? Salem. We keep being told she'll be back sooner rather than later, so I imagine that when she returns, she'll go for a desperation move and try to take the relics back herself. We might get a proper fight between her and our heroes, possibly in the big portal room, and here's where the team tries to go for another galaxy brain plan: they'll trap Salem in the portal room by using Ambrosius to create something else once they're done with the evacuation. Well.......she's not necessarily a real girl. When robo Penny is terminating she looks at Penny with xray vision and you don't see any bones organs. It's literally all just her aura filling her. She is a solid soul.

In case it wasn't clear enough because I didn't understand it the first time watching. They asked him to CREATE a new Penny USING her existing robotic parts. So the Penny with the human body is the old Penny, but her robotic parts were removed, while the Penny that self terminates is the creation that Ruby asked for, thus when the portals come up the dead Penny is erased because she is what they requested to be created. And I believe the reason the human Penny isn't erased is because she is not the things that Ruby asked for. Her request was purely to make a new version of Penny using her existing parts. But since the dude can't kill people he had to go through a loophole where he created something that wasn't a request of their thus doesn't follow the normal rules of creation. Hope it wasn't too confusing to read, but that's my explanation of why human Penny can still exist even after the portals are created.

But given that her body is flesh and blood now, and the dying one was still seeing via robotics (we saw her line of sight - those systems weren't conjured out of thin air after all), the robot parts were still in place. Which would mean they weren't used, which means Penny's current body was created through other means. Which Ambro seems capable of, but doesn't close... any of the unfortunate plot holes punched by this episode. Penny is about the only reason I'm still here, so her being alive is a net positive for me personally, but I can't lie and say it makes sense given the "rules" we heard get rattled off.

I'm really hoping that, if she runs out of Aura, her body will just poof and her soul will land on the ground, like what happens when a gem is defeated in Steven Universe. In SU, the gems themselves are actually gemstones that create a body out of hard light so they can walk and talk. When they're defeated, their hard light body poofs, and their gemstone has to be protected until it's ready to produce a new body. I think and hope that Penny will be the same way.

But if you think about where RWBY was when it first started.... 4-15 minute chapters, then you know it came a long way. Because if I understand the rules for the Staff, whatever it creates must be exactly worded specifically, so by requesting to make a new robotic "Penny" from her original body, what remained was her Soul, which somehow had a physical organic body. Like, did Ambrosius fashion her a physical body outside of their request as part of the loophole in the rules of creation, or did he somehow manage to generate a body from her soul? RT doesn't have the nerve. This ain't RvB. While given the insane imbalance in heroes vs villains here, which imo means we honestly SHOULD have heroes dying off by now, we're 8 volumes and only down 1 hero in Pyrrha, and all the assorted teams and good guys left only have Salem (Not as invincible as she seemed at first), Cinder (repeatedly soloed by other Maidens), Watts (soloed in his best possible battlefield by a man with only hand to hand and non-dust small arms gunfire), Neo, and maybe Mercury (who doesn't have a Semblance, and is technically crippled) to fight against. There's no scenario I can imagine - without resorting to "because the plot calls for it" - where the good guys have any issues with the 5 villains left short of perhaps Salem herself. And given that Hazel, alone, could at least damage her enough to slow her down and interrupt her taking actions, I have to imagine a dozen or more dedicated ass-kickers all at once could do much the same, making her much more manageable. Where was I...? Ah, yes. Despite the reasons voting "pro", Yang will somehow end up being completely fine. I'll give it a volume - maybe a stinger scene in 9 at the latest, before she's back up and running like nothing happened.
