Murray's Monument. Galloway Forest. Scotland

Murray's Monument is a tall obelisk in honour of classical scholar and linguist Alexander Murray.
(1775-1813)
Murray's Monument lies on a little summit adjacent to Queen's Way ( A712 road)
within the Galloway Forest Park.
Murray was the son of a local shepherd. He went on to become Professor of oriental languages at the University of Edinburgh in 1812 but died in the following year aged 37.
