Btw: What happened? Did some english mechanic wrenched the wheel with less torque to let D. Hill become the new worldchampion?
@TheColinChapman

Gray Race more or less, but unintentionally. as far as I remember, this happened two laps after his last pit stop, so probably the wheel gun wasn‘t used properly, the nut did not go on completely.

@@grayrace7720 D. Hill was 9 points ahead - he just needed to finish 6th or higher(to get just 1 point) to secure championship, Willineve had to win that race to have any hope. It would be like Bottas being 24 points behind Ham at last race, then retired due to mechanic failure and someone thought Ham wouldn't get that championship without someone deliberately sabotaging Bottas.

I agree. He is still underrated IMHO. He would have won the championship in 94 had Schumacher not rammed him after he'd crashed and broken his car and had Williams not fired him he could have won another championship. The car gets a lot of credit but (a) that applies to so many champions and (b) don't ignore his role as test driver developing the car in the first place.

Schumacher personally called Byrne after he drove the 1994 Benetton in pre-season tests and commended him on designing such a fine car. Here's something you *also fail to understand* Newey alone couldn't develop his cars without a great car developer - and in Newey's own words Damon Hill was incredibly good at this. Don't remember this one. Remember a spectator being injured/killed at San Marino GP wheel flew into the crowd on the start finish straight..... during Saturday practice/qualifier when a driver was killed followed by Senna on Sunday race. That one was worst because part of the wishbone was still attached to wheel as it flew high into the air and into the crowd. Need to find that video now thinking about it...

Imagine that if he had come round the last corner to cross the line and wheel came off down the track Jacques suddenly couldn't control the car hit the wall but the wheel kept going and crossed the line....the wheel just won the race...im just wondering would that count as a win for Jacques? cos it was part of the car or would the wheel end up on the podium for crossing the line

In the unlikely event that happened, an unattached wheel would not count as anything, and Villeneuve wouldn't class as finishing until the rest of the car past the finish line.

I read in a race review that there was a second fence which stopped it, so it didn't go into the crowd. Even the original footage wasn't very clear so was hard to see at the time. The crowd would have moved because they wouldn't know where it would stop.
