Mururinsky Pass - a section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline with the highest point above sea level (1323 meters)
In this video we will travel by train through the Mururin Pass - the highest point of the Russian railways (1323 meters above sea level). Steep inclines when entering this pass require double traction and weight limits for trains. The first part of the video presents a section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline from Novaya Chara station to Mururin station (and a little further).
In August 1992, a catastrophe almost happened here, which could become one of the largest in the history of Russian railways. A locomotive with faulty brakes ended up on a long descent, turning, in essence, into an uncontrollable projectile, catching up with the passenger train going in front. At the same time, at the Hani station - ahead in the direction of travel - there was a train with explosives. These events formed the basis of the film Mururin Pass (1994).
