lactate is not an acid. and it can also be used by the slow twitch fibers as fuel. The lactate in the blood is a fuel for the heart and brain as well.

correct, lactic acid has an extra proton compared to lactate

I may have skipped over it in the video but could you mention the mechanisms of the system that helps shuttle out the ‘waste’ and metabolite byproducts? Where does this ‘waste’ go… does it get picked up by the liver? Thank you.

@15:38 "Some people are better at burning carbs and some people are better at burning fat." Do you have a source to support this assertion?

Everyone has various factors that affect their ability to utilize carbs or fat for energy more or less efficiently. One good example is people that have insulin resistance, they would be better of having a higher fat diet. That said, some people have a harder time switching into fat burning metabolism. This relates to diet and physical activity levels too. People that eat many small meals containing carbs and do not fast for 16 hours or so on a regular basis, will have a harder time switching to fat burning metabolism. It can take time to make the body learn to use stored fat for energy and to become less dependent on consuming carbs. I will find some references for you.

I don't think that genetics plays as much of a role in metabolic adaptability as diet and exercise. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

@@DrWendi "people that have insulin resistance, they would be better [off] having a higher fat diet." Is this really true? From what I understand, carbohydrates improve insulin sensitivity and dietary fat causes insulin resistance. (see eg.: Improved glucose tolerance with high carbohydrate feeding in mild diabetes; Beneficial effects of a high carbohydrate, high fiber diet on hyperglycemic diabetic men) "Everyone has various factors that affect their ability to utilize carbs or fat for energy more or less efficiently." Isn't it normal for human bodies to use both carbs and fat for energy? Moreover, aren't low-carb gimmics purportedly, at least in part, about theoretically making the body use its calorie intake less efficiently therefore leading to weight loss?

@@HopyHop1 I have seen the high carb diet argument and I see more data showing high carbs is worse for insulin resistance. I do know there is research on both sides, I have had more experience with people doing better on lower carb diet, not higher ones. Also, the type of fat matters, there are definitely types of fats the increase ingflammation and make things like insulin resistance worse :)
