The Muscle-Up is the calisthenics skill, that every body weight fitness enthusiast or athlete wants to get. This video is a follow-up to the video I made three years ago, when I was aged 55, and got my first Muscle-Up, that video has now been viewed over 300,000 times on KZbin. A second video I uploaded aged 58, has over 600,000 views. So now I’m 59, I thought I should make another.
Follow along with this tutorial, and progress through the progressions to get the Muscle-Up.
I will reply to every comment, so please let me know how you get on and if you find this video useful. I have tried to keep it simple.

Belated happy birthday! 🎂🥳🎉 And thank you for mentioning (and also congrats on 👍) the great performance of your muscle-up video! These kind of videos apparently being kind of on demand right now gives me extra motivation to finally master my ring muscle-up and make a "my journey to ..." video giving helpful pointers myself. I think I'm getting closer. My personal best so far is a free ring muscle up from sitting with outstretched legs but my arms already considerably bent, so it's only a "three-quarters muscle up" or so. Also, the transition still needs work. It's so grinding I can't do more than one rep at once. But, well, give me a couple of weeks ... 😊
@funwithcalisthenics
@funwithcalisthenics 7 ай бұрын
That’s interesting. I spent quite a lot of time in the seated ring muscle up with slightly bent arms, last summer. They are really tough, but I made good progress with the slow muscle up. From an L-sit position. I’m thinking of making a video about the ring muscle up, but I need to master it first. I’ll race you.

You're a total beast man. Keep up the good work. Have you tried other calisthenics moves such as skin the cat, front lever, or the handstand?
@funwithcalisthenics

Hi, I’ve tried al sorts, I can do the skin the cat, muscle ups on the bar and rings. And the slow muscle up on the rings too.

I understand it's a good idea to take long rests between sets - 3 to 5 minutes. That's pretty much standard strength training protocol.

Yes that’s true. And I agree, although while making good this video, I left less time as I didn’t want long boring bits.

Hi Antony, i love the tips, the sharing but modt importantly how inspirational these videos have been. Technical equipment question for you - how did u determine the height of your bar, to ensure it can accommodate the bands, the swing but also the height at the top of the muscle up?
@funwithcalisthenics
@funwithcalisthenics 5 ай бұрын
Good question. Originally the bar was about 10cm higher, which was better for me. But the fixings became lose, and as I didn’t want to drill new holes in the the mortar, as brick is stronger, and I didn’t want it higher, I had to lower it slightly. In my opinion you want just that little bit higher than you can reach at full stretch. Maybe 10 cm higher. In my opinion.

Great work! Some crituque: 1) your swing seems to be too much, you could be more efficient if you you would swing closer to the bar (distance between you chest and the bar right before transition) 2) your toes seem out of control, they are flexing inwards. You would be more efficient if the whole body would be a straight line, thus preventing energy leaks
@funwithcalisthenics

That’s two very valid points. I have to agree with on both counts. I’ll keep working hard to improve. Appreciate your critique.
