These guys are some of the best at what they do. You must continually shock the muscle to continue to grow. Little isolation and pump exercises won't cut it. Sacrificing some form but still controlling very heavy weights seems to work very well for them. Can't argue with the results.

Thing is they’re not really controlling it, Dorian Yates lifted heavy but he used strict form probably explains why he has 6 mr o’s and this guys have zero

@@kurtbarlow5408 Yea but both these guys have Top 10 Olympia finishes and Branch won the Arnold Classic in 2012 with a couple 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the Mr. O. as well. Still impressive, especially when you factor in how long their careers lasted.

Everyone is talking about half reps etc, those half reps help keeps tension in the muscles which maximizes the break down of muscle fibers, especially with those heavy weights. This is no bs body building.
@icalderus
@icalderus 10 жыл бұрын
Full reps with no outside force would be ideal for muscle fiber breakdown. The more you use swinging or non-targeted muscle groups to move the weight, the less you are utilizing the muscle fibers in the target area. Mike Mentzer and Dorian Yates are prime examples of bodybuilders who used excellent form in order to cause muscle fiber breakdown.

Артём Бочкарев his injuries came from using heavy weights in an explosive manner. When you do that you are exploding from your weakest point. Its an injury waiting to happen. With regards to his triceps tear just before the 97 olympia, he had taken cortisone shots in the tendon and that weakens them, also being so hardcore, he didnt reduce his poundages even though he had corrected the explosive issue. The form these two show is just plain ego driven stupidity. Are you telling me they cannot gain from heavy weights in strict form to failure????!!!!

i think branch knows that now. i think he and johnny hear that alot. but at the end of the day it is what you wanna do. i think he rather train his way, than train a way that that he doesnt want to, to win the olympia. i think he knows that if im gonna train this way i might not be mr olympia, but i like how i am training. this is my style, this is who i am. at the end of the day it is what he wants, and i think he knows he wont be mr o. but the will do his best. everyone is different. i dont even train like him. even doe i like his intensity, makes me amp up and wanna kill some weights!

People don't understand that, as far as training goes, you can do everything "correctly", get full range of motion, control the reps and even get a great pump and still not grow. Most people in the gym today just play on their phones, wait for the right fucking song to come on before they do their set... they lack the intensity needed to force the muscle to grow. Its not just the steroids, its not your genetics, its the fucking work ethic. I personally know 5 people on steroids who dont know what the fuck they are doing! and guess what? they are still small and weak. People just sell themselves short when they look at someone bigger and more muscular and say they only got that way through steroids and not through their hard work. Most people have great potential but will never get to see what they are capable of because they're not willing to put in the work.

Serious Question. How do these guys build so much muscle (inb4 steroids reply's) when they are basically disregarding the general rules of physical training, like mind muscle connection, 313 tempo, controlled reps, full ROM and lifting with the muscle as opposed to using momentum? Please enlighten me.
@rationalmuscle
@rationalmuscle 9 жыл бұрын
ROM is not always required; in fact several studies suggest limited ROM for hypertrophy training cycles accelerates growth. How do you know where their minds are? That's an odd statement. I've seen Branch train and believe me, his mind is as focused as you can get. The one thing that will confuse a natty trainee (or any trainee) is the sloppy form. Some guys thrive on it. I know Branch has injured himself a lot training this way, as have other guys who are all about the weight. However, this is right before a show, and they are probably using as much weight as possible ANY WAY possible just to keep muscle tissue. Oh, that, and they're genetic freaks of nature. That never hurts. : )

This is just how they train on camera, either they're ego is telling them to lift like weightlifters the the cameraman is.

I have noticed the same type of training form in this video, in almost every pro I have ever seen train, and from past experience on you tube I knew this debate would come up in the comments before I saw your post. There is no shortage of would be experts willing to tell everybody exactly how to train, eat etc, the problem is its mostly opinion with little or no science, and most don't even bother to consider what research shows or if there even is any. When have you ever seen a comment posted with a reference listed to support what they say on you tube? ever? Its a big deal because citing accepted authoritative references is basic scholarship and an essential, expected requirement in every academic setting and science, an opinion or what they heard is not acceptable. With this in mind, experienced trainers like these guys use a variety of techniques and still focus on making the muscle do the work even during faster reps. The research shows VARIETY is king for optimal gains, if you just use slow reps you compromise gains in power, keep in mind the muscle fiber type and how you train, because fast twitch fibers are what give you power and size mainly, slow twitch for endurance. Look at a sprinter compared to a marathon runner. So don't use body english just to cheat up too much weight, but faster reps and contraction like here are used to train fast twitch fibers and increase intensity, still keeping stress on the muscle without using momentum to do it all. A good easy to read source for all your training questions that is based on the best available research and lists all the studies is www.exrx.net or just google your questions being sure to also include the word research in your search. This is how it should be done my friend, science isn't perfect either, but at least you can avoid a lot of just BS from the blow hards and have some confidence in the information.

Because that's what bodybuilding is. It all comes down to the fucking needle if you want to reach an unnatural physique, perfect form and controlled reps are really not even needed. Truth is always hard to digest

"313 tempo, controlled reps, full ROM and lifting with the muscle as opposed" These aint rules, these are "guidelines" for people who are new to the sport. JoJ and BW do have the mind muscle connection, they can feel exact the muscle they want to train even while they are swinging and using momentum. this ability separates the pros from the hobby sportsmen.

I met Branch at the IPA and he is a really decent guy. Open and honest. The only sad thing is that he will never win Mr Olympia. Why? Because he is way too small. And no about of growth hormones will change that. And since falling of his horse that time (search youtube, it's hilarious, when Branch tries to look cool and drops to the ground) he cannot pose properly anymore. Peace.
