Oh my gosh! Loved this! There are few things as fun as going to an art musuem with an artist friend.

I like seeing Stan's west coast method art background contrasted with the Academic Florence style. Form over Value and Value over Form. Constructive vs observation. Illustrative leaning vs very natural. Interesting to see two artists I like so much that have very different styles hanging out. Love it.

It is so funny- when your knowledge of art is limited how different conversation about paintings in a museum can be! Fun to listen to you guys discuss the technical things about art - makes it look so fun to be able to see paintings along with a strong understanding of what is going on in them!

Hi Cesar, I really appreciate your videos and love your enthusiasm. The fact that that still life with the big piece of cheese has no clear prominent subject, is a matter of choice by the artist, I was taught that this kind of art is defined as paratactic (hope that's the correct term in English) and should be thought of like some sort of geographical map, where all the information is laid there and the viewer chooses what to concentrate on, if I remember correctly is was common among Flemish painters; on the "Italian" side we have so called syntactic art that can be read like a book and puts the focus on the narrative element, as you know very well you can often follow the composition to learn a story, so I think that reflects two different outlooks on life and the role of Art.

Hi Cesar! I really fell in love with the way you explain paintings and history of art, it seems so genuine, visceral but at the same time very technical and methodical. Maybe because you are an artist yourself and not an academic /history teacher? Could you suggest us books/videos/blogs/websites that tell art and art history this same way? Thank u very much

Hi from Canada 🇨🇦 Cesar! Question a bit off topic...when you are doing paintings in your sketchbook, what are you using to add to your oil paints to get then to dry quicker??? Otherwise I have to let my sketchbook sit for a week till it drys enough...

Tracy Emond Alkyd titanium white and ivory black. A bit of Cobalt drier if needed.

I want to learn something from you. I want to understand more about glazeing. I mean all about this, because I found this part of the process very difficult. It will be very usefull for me as an artist and i'll be very gratefull if you will do this... Tutorial... To say it so...
@erxfav31976 жыл бұрын
Mihai Christian to really learn try it yourself don't focus on the technique/application but on what you are trying to achieve with it, and learn in the process There is not much to say about "glazing" technique-wise It is simply applying wet paint over dry or dry-enough paint It can be opaque pigment made more transparent by adding medium (oil/turpentine/resin/etc/combination of any) Or it can be transparent pigment (also diluted with any mixture of medium) It can also be applied and rubbed off/smeared with a towel or finger etc So regarding the technique that's all there is to it.. Regarding in depth philosophical discussion that is something that just comes Learn. Apply. Experiment. Learn Develop a reasoning Then the execution is almost a byproduct The execution can also be a means and an end in of itself To summarize: glazing is just a description of a technique (of paint application) or glazing as a technique is just a technique Glazing in a greater sense is something else.. and that is sort of beyond words.
