So do the competitors only really stop to rest, eat, sleep at checkpoints?
@thatonedog8195 жыл бұрын
I know in the iditarod, they can grab food and straw from the check points and then they may camp in the wood however they are required to take (I think) two 8 hour breaks at a check point and one 24 hour break at a check point.

Yes. It is very well monitored. However, start and finish held in a crime infested area, Yukon. Yukon’s 2021 crime rate was the third-highest in the country at 22,938 incidents per 100,000 population (at the time of crime data release, Statistics Canada’s estimate of Yukon’s July 1, 2021 population was 42,986). The sad reality of Yukon.

What are the drawbacks of this race?
@Just_another_shadow3 жыл бұрын
Animals dieing, mental and physical animal abuse... Oh ya the dogs love being mentally warped into dragging a lazy humans ass through a frozen tundra instead of going for a nice walk/run through a field on their own terms...

Hate me or not for this comment. But I don’t agree with such dog races and I stand against it. Making dogs run for that long in extremely cold conditions just for the “thrill and fun” of it is not okay ! How you have no idea how painful it must be when the dogs suffer from leg cramps and muscle failure, that’s fucking horrible. I don’t give a fuck if it’s a “cultural” thing, it’s negligence.

Nobody is forcing you to be here get the fuck out

You're entitled to your opinions. However, the sled dogs are not forced to run. They run because they love to run. As far as "leg cramps and muscle failure", have you witnessed sled dogs with such problems or is your statement based upon comparison between a human long distance runner and sled dogs, and the incorrect assumption a sled dog will have the same problems as a human?
@mrsjohnson1743 Жыл бұрын
I used to feel that way too but when I learned more about the race, the dogs, and the mushers, I changed my opinion because these dogs truly want to run. They are very well cared for and looked after. The mushers will sacrifice themselves to care for their dogs. Likely, they eat better on the trail than the mushers.
