So, for context. The LN talks about how the upper half of the labyrinth was created by giant ants, that's why those early floors were more like tunnels and caves, while the second half is guessed to be an ancient teleportation ruin like the one they used to get here. It's also said that labyrthns are living dungeons per se. So at some point the upper labyrinth came into contact with the teleportation ruins in that area integrated that concept into the whole of the labyrinth. Thus we have teleportation circles and the like all over the labyrinth. It's a very cool concept from the author.

They go into the book more in the novel, the dude survived because all his party died to the last traps sending them to monster nests. He got out, wrote the book to cope/greive. They also go into how dungeons form, rudues thinks it became a teleport labyrinth because it was a an old teleport temple like the ones orsted use. The mana and environment make the labyrinths are what is theorized at this point in the books

Potential Spoilers.... Roxy is the reason Sylphy got teased. They might not have met, but the other kids learned that strange hair colors were the mark of a demon, due to what the other villagers were saying about Roxy. They even played with Roxy running the "dangerous" demon out of the village. When the kids tried to play with Sylphy the same way she didn't know how to handle it, got scared and the play quickly turned to bullying.

To be fair, Rudeus told Paul he was married in front of "everyone" when they first arrived. It's easy to see why he would forget to mention it to Roxy, since in his mind the whole group knew. Plus they were all focused on exploring the Labyrinth.

I figure that the reason no one ever discovered this hidden staircase is A) They weren't familiar with the makeup of these ruins- I doubt many archeologists have made it to the 5th stratum. B) The number of parties that made it this far with a thief/rouge, like Geese, is probably in the single digits. Maybe less than 5 total. Don't get me wrong, Rouges are a great asset, but in a dungeon that's this combat-heavy, most parties that make it here are probably comprised of warriors, mages, and supports. Probably not a lot of room for someone like Geese whose primary role is utility.

Love that despite reuniting with his long lost goddess, Rudy doesn't really flirt or come on to Roxy (man has his eyes on the prize, as in his pregnant wife back home), and instead it is *Roxy* who is blushing and flirting, even going so far as basically asking him out on a dungeon-date. It's an strange juxtaposition from what I'd expect - It's super cute!

I don't think Rudy himself realizes the nature of his feelings for Roxy. He thinks it's just respect and admiration, but he's clearly incredibly affectionate towards her without it ever occurring to him that such feelings might conflict with his loyalty towards Sylphy.

@@7evilartz981 SPOILERS AHEAD: Yes, the Hydra fight will most probably end next episode. Roxy will also become quite important for Rudeus, because of a very specific moment in the Hydra fight. As for the gang returning home and more Sylphie moments, if they finish the volume, then yes, the gang will return home, and we will get not just more Sylphie moments, but also Sylphie interacting with Roxy. If they do want to finish the volume then having 25 episodes would be perfect, but I could see it being squeezed into 24 episodes, even though it would have to be quite fast paced.

My guess is that the proposal will happen this season but the marriage wont be. the proposal is directly related to what happens in the dungeon and happens almost immediately after they leave it.

Rudy puts a great emphasis on people who help him get through trauma. Like Roxy helped him get outside that he struggled for like 25 years so he adores Roxy as a goddess for that. Sylphy helped him get over his trauma of not getting it up for 3 years

Rudeus gets the nickname Quagmire because of his proficiency with the spell back with Soldat, counter arrow etc in the North. So that is the spells name and his fondness and how often he would utilize it is how it stuck

3:31 that's the same noise as Rudeus hurling overboard in S1E18. Rudeus is ever the dense protagonist, just as he'd decided to be after learning Sylphie's a girl. 10:32 I noticed on rewatch the background artist had put in a couple of easter eggs on the sword display. Rudeus doesn't notice the parallels between the shopping trip with Shishou and his date with Sara. 11:30 Her time in Buena was transformative, especially if you read the Roxy manga (which anime and manga-onlies shouldn't do until this cour is done). When she arrived at Buena, she was cynical and bitter over being consistently dismissed as a child because of her looks and either discriminated or taken advantage of because of her race. She'd even been dismissive of the idea of romance and was generally averse to anything related to physical intimacy. Seeing Paul and Zenith as a couple awakened her interest in finding a romantic partner at some point, and at first accidentally seeing them go at it awakened her interest in sex as well. The lovequest she'd been on after leaving Rudeus is so close to reaching completion now that she's with him again. Her only real surprise has to be how it had to be him of all people. 11:52 Rudeus directly compared those critters to xenomorphs. They're dangerous when they can jump you from the ceiling, but are far easier to deal with on ground level. The deal with labyrinths is that they're essentially alive. The older they get, the deeper they go and the more monsters dwell within them. The upper levels of the Teleportation Labyrinth are essentially giant ant warrens left over from the critters that ate the creature whose skeleton frames Rapan. The deeper levels are like Dragonfolk ruins, so either there was a Dragonfolk settlement or facility near Rapan or the labyrinth had formed itself to look like one. The core aspects of a labyrinth are that they form where there's lots of mana, they form a giant mana crystal as their core, which goes deeper underground as the labyrinth ages, and that it lures in a powerful monster to be the Guardian. The monster can subsist off mana directly, so there's no need for it to feed. 17:42 The translators messed up, apparently. It's that according to Geese's gathered intel, a party which had subsequently gone missing (likely TPK) had at some point said they'd seen someone matching Zenith's description within the labyrinth. Not that she'd gone in with a party of adventurers. Paul's sword speech is an anime-only thing (manga hasn't reached that far yet). But it gives perspective to what he wanted to tell him. There was a bit of ambiguity in the LN and Drama CD, but I'd guessed it had to do with Roxy and how she's interested in Rudeus, or Paul's concerns on how Rudeus is handling the dive. When it comes to him outright expressing his approval for Rudeus to potentially take on a second wife, I wouldn't be surprised if he'd be OK with three or more. After all, he'd known from the start that Sylphie had a high chance of becoming his wife eventually and he saw Lilia and Zenith educate her in that regard. Then there's Rudeus' betrothal to Eris: Philip had started corresponding with Paul about it some time after Eris' tenth birthday and it was a done deal by TP1 (something Eris might have been aware of and could even now see as valid). And now he sees Roxy, whom he saw as a big sister figure to Rudeus, have clear romantic intent towards the boy.

Fist of all love you guys, you're reactions are gold and love watching you discuss points and clues to where things go. that being said i feel like you tend to have a bit of preconceptions against polygamy, i totally get the feeling when talking about harem anime that push girls into the protagonist's arms with little to no reason or depth. but in the case of mushoku tensei i see Rudy's relationship's evolving naturally and written in a emotionally satisfying manner so i personally don't see the malice in it expecially in a setting where poligamy is wide spread. Paul could be used as a bad example of how this kind of relationship are born as his partners end up pushed into that kind of situation because of him being scum but the same can't be said for Rudy which has genuinely developed connection with the woman he has in his life seeing them as companion and friends first and foremost (although his pervert and non-ok parts coming in play in the first season). That's all still love you guys anyway just thought i could give my pov on this

It's almost like he goes back to being a kid, which could explain how he's so dense about Roxy obviously falling for him. Roxys portrayal also feels spot on, good on the VA and animators.

A quagmire is a soft boggy area of land that gives way underfoot, so it's not that it's the name of his spell, it's just what he creates using earth (and probably water?) magic to reduce the targets mobility. That's why he got that nickname while he was adventuring since that was his go-to move in a fight, he's been using it since season 1.

Quick note; Rudy looks significantly different in the LN at this age than how he does in the anime; he looks far more like Paul, and that's why she can't recognize him. He was 5 when she left and is now 16, a whole 11 years, but the anime continues to use his child-like form. In reality, he looks far older. This is also why Norn saw him as Paul when she looked up in the earlier episode.

(Premptively, I ain't reading replies to this) I feel like Paul must just feel SUPER into pushing Rudy into both Sylphie and Roxy, not just because he's teased them about them both specifically, but because it's almost like payback for every time Rudy has criticized him over Ilia. Like an "I TOLD YOU SO!". And it's TOTALLY in line with how he's always been desperate to "be more of a dad". He just REALLY wants to be right. And, as far as he's concerned, it isn't even much an issue. Only Rudy really seems to see it as a moral issue (it's hard to tell if Elinelise just hasn't noticed somehow or if she isn't bothered), and if I remember right only Milis is explicitly monogamous, and he knows none of the three are. (Well, he would assume. Rudy never cared, Roxy is a demon, and he wouldn't have a reason to assume Sylphie converted to it). So Paul has a reason to encourage it for bro reasons (wingman), a reason to encourage it for dick reasons (payback), and little reason not to for moral reasons (religion). And, oh shit, I didn't even think about it. It's even BETTER payback than I thought..... because Sylphie's pregnant, and the one he's married to. Paul must see it as an absolute PERFECT parallel to get back at Rudy with. Of course, it's Roxy, so I'll take anything that excuses anything to do with her as she's perfect, but I like that Paul's feelings on this are both so easy to dislike and easy to understand. It's a great way of doing a character acting mostly fine within their own morals even when they'd be acting shitty by our morals.

Yups! Also, it seems they have forgotten about Ruijerd's curse and that we have heard that Orsted has multiple curses. So it would be an inaccurate assumption to equate Elinalise's curse with the use of "curse" here for trauma. Another thing to remember is in the last episode, Talhand warned Rudy to not use fire spells in the labyrinth because it would result in poison, which Rudy deduces refers to carbon monoxide. So in this case, the word poison is being used and not curse. Therefore, just because the word "curse" is being used, does not mean that it is always a natural (non-magical) event or explanation.

Sure, Paul has been a huge piece of shite countless times, and one of those times just happened to get him in a situation where he had to take responsibility for a 2nd wife. Still, polyamoury/polygamy is acceptable, even encouraged at times, in that world. Paul, Zenith, and Lilia all love each other very much, and the entire family would have had amazing years together if the stupid Mana Displacement hadn't happened. Paul can tell that Rudi and Roxy have an undeniable connection, and he sees reason to have a chat with Rudi about what growing closer to Roxy would mean. Paul was relating to the situation, not telling Rudi what to do. :)

Clarifying: The spell was always called Quagmire, Rudeus took his nickname FROM the spell since he used it so much. It was not the other way around. It was actually other adventurer's that started calling him Quagmire since he used the Quagmire spell so much

@@Stonewielder meh,i felt the same way as they do when I initially read Mushoku Tensei but in all honesty the story sets it all up in a way where all parties are relatively innocent and that it was kind of forced onto them. You cant blame rudy for what happens nor can you blame Roxy or Eris. They're just situations that were forced onto them and he delt with the problems in the best way for everyone. It's hard to judge him too harshly over it.

With polygamy, what do Sylphi, Rudy, and Roxy think? Roxy's a romantic, but with strong morals. We know after Rudy left, Sylphi was semi-raised by Zenith and Lilia living in a polygamous marriage with Paul, both mentored her; she may be comfortable with openly sharing Rudy ... but she's never met Roxy! (Her concubine comment was in the context of her not getting pregnant.. now she is!). Rudy puts Roxy on a pedestal and is not yet considering romance, but Roxy is.. but doesn't know about Sylphi. Rudy rejected the idea of concubine when Sylphi raised it, but that was in the abstract. Paul is probably "go for it they're both okay, but don't cheat" What would Elinalise, Roxy's close friend and Sylphi's grandma, think?

as far as knowing about Roxy... Sylphie knows *of* Roxy, as Rudeus has never been able to shut up about her. And for Roxy knowing Sylphie, not really. She only knows there was a long-eared man in the village who shared his worries about having a daughter with an odd hair color with her, and she gave him reassurances.
