I liked the fact that the Angels adopted Sydney as their go to place, be it recording some of their albums, being prominent in their videoclips or prolific touring around all of it's iconic venues. The Angels should be immortalised in the music national hall of fame.

Blinded by the Light (Manfred Mann's Earth Band) is pretty much unchallenged as the greatest cover of all time. Bryan Ferry's cover of A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is probably the next best. This one is up there, though.

Awesome! Back in those days I played keyboards (still do) and our band won the Griffith Battle of the Bands. We played on the back of a semi trailer in the middle of the Griffith race course to a crowd of around 4000. The PA was doubled up (meaning 2 PA systems) to about 20,000 watts (the speaker stack was higher than the semi trailer). When the bass player hit a note, it rocked the semi! 😃

Saw these guys live many times. Don't know why the rest of the world didn't make them a super band. Love this version and I hope Eric Burdon and the Animals approve. One of very few songs covered by a band that is at least as good as the original from the best band in Australasia bar none. Thats hard to say for a Kiwi.

When it comes to music and Australia, most people think about AC/DC and Men at Work, and one of my buddies who owns a record store turned me on to Screamin' Jets. But to me, The Angels, or Angel City as they were called in the States, belong on the same pedestal, or even higher. When on I'm road trips, I wear out the three CDs I have of The Angels, but until today I had never seen or heard this cover, and it just blew me away.

An old song which talks about hard life today in Vanuatu, where the majority of the working population are earning the minimum wage of $2.20 an hour. Thank God for Australia opening up the seasonal workers program for us so we can travel to Australia and work for some decent money to improve our lives. So yes we gotta get out of Vanuatu if it's the last thing we ever do.

You are right Gav1959, there is no comparison between these two songs. I like both versions. When the Animals released their version in July 65 it peaked at number two in the English charts and stayed in the charts for twelve weeks. I have no chart information for the Angels, however I think is probably one of the best remakes of all time. The Angels have put their own stamp on a classic rock song. It is very hard for a good band to wreck a good song by another good band.
