I just love when people can play any instrument. But when they play multiple instruments that’s a whole new level. Thank you for playing your instruments.

Oh my goodness! I remember this song! I remember hearing it in my home as a kid. Ha! Now you know my age! 😃 My parents loved the orchestral artist named James Last, who did this song with his orchestra. Those were the days when we had records. You played this song perfectly!

I played an autoharp long ago in my elementary school music class time - mostly we were given a change to play the instrument briefly to accompany the rest of the class singing Christmas carols (early 1960s). Seemed fun and not terribly hard but we all were basic learners.

I ALWAYS used it with kids, because it WAS easy….but playing melody on it took me to another level, because it was SO much more fun🎶

We purchased an Oscar Schmidt 21-chord in the 1970s. My wife has played it for our children and grandchildren and in church. I play it occasionally and also do the tuning. I enjoy your videos.

Lovely! I bought a small Oscar Schmidt autoharp a few years ago, to use when singing with my grandchildren. However, I must use it guardedly with the very youngest ones, as their touches can sometimes be a bit too rough for an instrument! I love that song, too- and recall being excited back in the 70’s whenever I heard that played on the radio. Regarding the fingerpicks: do you use the same kind that are used for a banjo? I have never tried playing my autoharp that way, but just have strummed mine with a hard felt pick.
@deedeetibbits4 ай бұрын
Yes…the picks are the same. I didn’t know how much fun autoharps could be until I picked it up and tried to play melody on it!☺️
@janetryan97794 ай бұрын
@@deedeetibbits Neat! Playing melody with picks is definitely more appealing to me than just strumming….probably because I am primarily a musician and not a vocalist. I will have to try my banjo picks on the autoharp sometime.

Which of the old instruments is your favorite to play? 😊

My favorite 100 year old one is the Ukelin! My next would be the Marxophone.

DeeDee , when buying an autoharp, would you prefer chromatic or diatonic ? That’s for sharing your videos of different instruments.
@deedeetibbits3 ай бұрын
I’ve had( and played) BOTH kinds, and the diatonic is a bit fuller because not so many strings are muted. However, I also like to have those‘accidentals handy when I need them.

My grade school music teacher did NOT show us you could play the autoharp that way!
@deedeetibbits4 ай бұрын
That’s because it’s harder work , and most students in a classroom wouldn’t be able to accomplish it. Your teacher just wanted you ALL to have success🎶
@Alaineolier-zs5bd3 ай бұрын
So, on the diatonic, which key would you prefer- I know it’s preference but for your choice?

I love the auto harp! My father bought me a zither when I was I think 10 or 11 years old and I loved it then I saw someone play an auto harp and I wanted to learn that. However, I ended up teaching myself the guitar. I’m not very good however, I just keep trying. I really like the way you played. Now, I want to get one! 🥹💜
