Music for Prague 1968 Movement I: Introduction and Fanfare By Karel Husa

This powerful work for band is Karel Husa's most famous piece. Being moved by the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact nations in 1968, Husa sought to write a work that would pay tribute to a city that, he said, had only seen freedom for a few moments of its thousand-year long existence. This first movement begins very quietly with a lengthy piccolo solo, but eventually erupts into a chaotic fanfare mainly featuring the upper brass. Before the movement ends, however, the haunting piccolo returns one last time. Performed by the North Texas Wind Symphony.

Clearly one of the best work written for wind orchestra in all music history !

Parents don't like it. When they go to their kids Christmas concert, they want to hear Winter Wonderland, etc. We also did 'Tribute to Bacharach and David' and my dad said afterward he liked that one.....but....'I didn't understand that other piece at all.'
