Social Media ruined music. These record labels aren’t signing people with actual talent and love for the craft. They’re signing people who go viral and have an online following. These type of people don’t care about music…they care about money and fame. Social Media has fucked people’s attention spans to the point where artists are dropping songs no longer than 2 mins and some change and are making music strictly to make it a TikTok sound that can go viral on TikTok. The music industry today (like much everything else) is a parody

Maybe I'm just jaded (i'm only 26) but I lived through such incredible music in all genres in the early 2000s, and around 2016 everything started to feel a bit cookie cutter / low quality. There's definitely artists pushing the boundaries, but for the most part the industry has been saturated by bad songs. It's the trade off for music being easy to release, there's no publicists/labels telling the artist's their work is straight up trash.

In a few years, mainstream pop will be a bass kick, finger snap snares, and auto-tuned variations of “Yea, girl, club, you, oooo, baby, smokin, brr brr brr, and Uuuuuuuuu” and all the songs will be under a minute and a half with no change ups Watch

You are completely right! I have also noticed that it continues to get worser throughout the younger generations. Since back then we had people who knew how to properly behave, and represent themselves, because they cared. Now days people don’t care like they used to. They think that showing their bodies, selling bad music, and much more is not a big deal. Then the fans go crazy for their music, because that’s what they are used to hearing. I hope people come to their senses, and break free from this curse!

I agree with this! All the music I listen to is from the late 90s up to the 2010s up to 2016 because music was just better then. I can’t dance or sing to anything now because it just doesn’t hit the same.

Blame those in charge of what is allowed to be profitable, it’s not the artists, it’s not entirely the consumers fault, it is the people who sign and push talentless people whilst suppress talented people for a quick buck. As with everything, they have people fighting over what is good music, whilst they sit back collecting checks and laughing. Best thing we can do is support artists we genuinely enjoy, find out who influenced their music and listen to those artists. That’s how you discover great music from older generations.

Music, like many things, is always evolving and changing. It’s not always going to appeal to a specific demographic. Despite what you may think, previous generations go through this exact same thought process: “Music isn’t the same anymore,” “the new generation’s music sucks,” etc. The Greatest Generation didn’t understand Elvis or the Beetles; Boomers couldn’t understand 70’s and 80’s rock; Gen X didn’t understand grunge and hip hop; Millennials didn’t understand 2000’s boybands or 2010’s trap rap; and now Gen Z doesn’t understand some of the popular music nowadays like $uicideboy$. Music isn’t actually bad; it just doesn’t appeal to Gen-Z anymore. Usually when that happens, the older gens begin sticking to their own music.

The luigi’s mansion theme in the back is sending me loool, loved your thoughts~ theres so much really really good music being made by beautifully talented musicians but while virality is crashing - its time to enjoy those old school youtube wormholes and deep dives we used to do to find those who have become some of our faves today. Those were great times, finding those random songs or artist that was in a niche pocket of the web and hoping they got bigger one day to see them at a show or just grow on their path. Theres so many that are even more accessible now than back in like 2009 when we were diggjng through old soundcloud listening to chopped n screwed versions of faves and crunchy youtube lyric videos. Music in a wider way will revive again~ everything must ebb and flow. Music is a natural embodied thing, so like nature it will blossom and is blooming all the time in small and large ways. It will be good as a whole again one day☀️

Capitalism and the modern listener becoming a consumer rather than a listener of music. The unfortunate truth is talent no longer exists in the eyes of record labels, social media apps, and consumers that pretend to be music lovers. Music today isn't the same because everything is a product. The artist behind the music isn't a soul that loves music and the craft, but is instead a brand name selling consumers repetitive beats made by producers that knew what would sound "decent" to consumers to possibly make it to the charts or at least be catchy enough to trend for a few weeks. Even recording the songs aren't the same, because there use to be an art form in of itself in getting into the studio, recording the instrumentals live with the artist, and making enhancements from the artists perspective and everyone else in the room. It's unfortunate, because not even the craft of buying a CD, cassette tape, or vinyl record and discovering a new artist and their music is the same now because of streaming. Why should modern music care about those who love music (listeners and artists alike), when it can sell to consumers that want a "brand" name artist and catchy beat? It's unfortunate, because music isn't about music anymore, but rather the money it brings. And because of consumers, "producers", and record labels; talent, skill, and an actual artist is pushed aside for the money. I mean, it's gotten so bad that I've started asking myself; if Michael Jackson were born in the early 2000s, creating his exact hits/ albums, would he even be recognized or become legend status for his craft/ discography because of the modern music industry? Not to be dramatic, but it's actually distressing how bleak music's future looks right now. Something's gotta change fr 😭😭

60s through some of the 2010s was in my opinion the best music era's. 2020s is falling off and its sad. You don't feel nothing from any of today's music. Old music gave you something to feel and had a message. I'm not saying all music was like that but most songs back then became timeless classics over the years. Now it's you go viral and put out nothing but bs and all the hype for an "artist" will be like 5 seconds and we all move on from it and it repeats the cycle. A lot of stuff that we get today quickly influences the kids in a bad way for the most part.

There’s something nostalgic about 70-90s music, and I didn’t even grow up during that era. For 2000 and 2010 songs, I have to be in a good mood to get into the music. There are some songs that I really enjoy from 2020, like Bo Burnham’s songs and My Love Mine All Mine and musical theater, but pop music doesn’t interest me right now

lets follow the steps one by one: 1. music was created with analog equipment.. real microphones.. real amps.. real instruments.. real voices.. real master tapes! 2. analog equipment is very expensive.. but digital is very cheap.. 3. people can now create music on digital equipment and 90% of people can't hear the difference DURING PRODUCTION 4. more and more people are starting to create music digitally 5. more and more people starting to forget how good music sounded like back when it was made organically with analog equipment 6. music is easier to produce because of digital equipment and cheaper and FASTER 7. every single person who thinks they have a song.. can record, produce, mix, master and upload it online IN THE SAME DAY 8. way too many people making music which means there isn't a proper gatekeeping for what GOOD MUSIC SHOULD BE by EXPERTS IN MUSIC. 9. when you go into spotify there is literally no difference between Mozart, Drake and your neighbor next door. all are in the same randomized playlist 10. the only thing that kinda gives a notion of quality are VIEWS.. but even then most people dont click on something simply for the quality of it. most of the time its just because of MEMES or TRENDS or just for the lolz.. even if its bad.. ESPECIALLY IF ITS BAD. what does the fox say? so you see.. quality is still there.. but we can no longer see the forest for the trees. and good luck finding a tree that isn't rotten when you get used to the smell of rotten trees.. you start to think thats how trees SUPPOSED to smell like! and the funny thing is.. soon... we will get to a point.. when.. even if we find a tree that ISN'T ROTTEN! we will judge it for NOT being rotten.. and make the tree feel like krap because its not giving off rotten smells because we no longer have any idea what a NON-ROTTEN tree has to offer. so if you're a tree and you're not rotten.. dont let peer pressure rot you away just so you can be another rotten tree. also there isn't much point in making it in the music world as a truly talented musician anymore cause what is the point of trying to be a successful non-rotten tree if all your fanbase is going to be rotten anyways how can you respect yourself as a healthy tree.. if all you're doing is singing to rotten trees lololol good luck respecting yourself with a fanbase of 3 healthy trees max hhhhhhhh this is why I dont make music.. even though I was born with a pitch perfect voice and I can play the guitar and piano very well there is no point in even uploading anything on social media.. cause I dont respect the people that might find and "like" it. I prefer to just slowly and quickly fade away into nothingness and keep my talents to myself and to the ones I actually care about.
