Hi! I'd like to say thank you for featuring Karen Carpenter on your KZbin channel. I just stumbled on it today and your video just made my entire week! I'm from the Philippines and was born in the early 70s but the moment I could appreciate music and listened to their songs, I've been a big Carpenter's fan! I'd have to admit that your video and your review made me teary eyed. This is the very first time I've seen their TV special and this medley is just a gem! Great minds think alike my dear lol. Yes, this medley is absolute perfection and will always remain one of my favorite Carpenters stand-outs...one of MANY. Obviously you too are a big Carpenters fan or you wouldn't have stopped by my channel. I'm amazed that anyone even bothers with my channel anymore since I never have the time to put anything new up. Tell me, what is your favorite Carpenters full-length album, and why? and no, I don't expect an answer simply because all of the C's albums are delicious ear candy and choosing one is impossible! Anyway, thank you for your kind comment. Oh, and I *think* I may have done a reaction video to a female singer named 'Harriet' out of England. Her voice has a striking resemblance to Karen's voice and it's got that same 'something' that Karen has in her voice, but Harriet has her own sound mixed in. @@JohninTucson 　Thank you for your reply and the information about Harriet．　I didn't know about her at all and am glad you shared it with me. Her low voice is indeed very similar to Karen's! It's absolutely impossible to pick just one album of the Carpenters because they kept evolving with each album. But I have listening to HORIZON and Made in America recently. I think Horizon is the album that shows the beauty of Karen's alto voice. Made in America is the album that shows how genius Richard is as an arranger. in 1995, Top of the world & I need to be in love were used in a Japanese TV drama series and Carpenters became so popular again in Japan. the greatest-hit album was released and sold 2million copies! My English is probably incorrect. So please use your imagination to read this. Love from Japan.

You are 100% correct! Richard was such a gentleman to let Karen's light shine a bit brighter than his own, but he knew that Karen was the main draw due to her vocal ability and unique style of singing. I know he misses her terribly!

I know how you are feeling about this Television special and of course, Karen is up front and center singing so effortlessly. I would love it if Richard were to get all of their TV specials remastered and then release them to the public. Unfortunately, that will never happen for many reasons including having to pay royalties to all of the musicians used in each TV program. At least we have copies up on the internet that dedicated fans have shared over the years for everyone to enjoy, but yeah, I get the royalties problem. I hope you enjoyed the video though, I enjoyed making it for fans like me. Thanks for commenting!

You'd have seen Karen at her happiest. She'd rather have drummed than sung. There are some great videos of her on drums, notably an outdoor live one made circa 1970 at a VA hospital...

What a lovely comment! Yes, I agree that nobody can get to experience the Carpenters live in concert, they were amazing on stage, especially with Karen singing AND playing the drums at the same time. What a shame that we lost her at such a young age. I can only imagine how it must have really rocked Richard's world to lose his sister like that and to suddenly have the mantle of responsibility fall directly on his shoulders. Wow.

I'm a late 80''s child and only recently that I actually listened to The Carpenters and to my surprise, I really liked their music. It's amazing how Richard and Karen are so in sync with their harmonies. The way you react to The Carpenters puts a smile on my face. PS. love the t-shirt

Yay, a new Carpenters fan! Fun fact: I remember watching this particular television special (my video is only a clip of an hour long TV program for them in 1979). I was sitting up next to the TV trying to record the sound using my little cassette recorder, and my younger brother (who HATED the Carpenters) was yelling and dancing around in front of the TV so that my recording would be ruined (it was). I was so sad until I FINALLY saw the entire TV show on KZbin back in the early 2000's and so here ya go - 'Music Music Music'....

All of Karen and Richard's vocals were prerecorded for this special, even the duet she did with Ella Fitzgerald, even though Ella's vocals were done live. So, they were actually lip syncing to all the material in "Music, Music, Music." I hope your good health continues...

Yes, all of the programs that they were in were lip synched, however, Karen still would sing full out to the playback vocals at the same time, so why she didn't just do it all live is beyond me, God knows she had the chops to do it. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

I agree 100%. Her flawless perfection even extended to her lip synched performances. Rich on the other hand, frequently had difficulty "synching" his piano playing to the tracks!

Well I thoroughly enjoyed watching him sing along...it added entertainment and you can tell he's a Carpenters fan through and through!! He did it so professionally, I really thought he had been a music teacher sometime in his life!! If you don't like him doing that then don't watch!!!
