Literally, "Lathi" in old Javanese means tounge, but in the context of the lyrics it really means someone's "speech". Basically one's integrity or self-worth is reflected through someone's speech; either it's truthful and helps your loved ones grow, or full of lies and let him/her down. There's an Indonesian proverb with a similar message: "one's tongue can be sharper than knife." Java is the main island of Indonesia, and Javanese is one of 300 ethnic groups in Indonesia. I've seen lots of reaction of this Lathi song and in my opinion your reaction is one of the best. Here is why: - The uniqueness/essential part of this song is the Javanese element which can be heard from the gamelan sound (the sound of instrument you were curious about). Most reviewers who reacted to this song could not even notice this Javanese element, even though some of these reviewers were musician! . So kudos to you for noticing this part. - You really pay attention to detail such as about the montage and the puppets being played (at first I thought it was just random puppets) Keep up the good work man.

Its an artist from Indonesia.. The sound of music that is like percussion was called gamelan.. The puppet that was played its called wayang kulit.. A horse show was called kuda lumping.. And all are Javanese culture from Indonesia.. 😍

it's about mystical myth goddess lathi's toxic relationship with prince majapahit (ancient long before Indonesia even existed).he used her for his own interest and she then learnt black magic ( santau/ Indonesian: santet ) that kill the prince and his followers without touching them. That's the black sorceress you see right there.. The Javanese line reads : no one can escape from mistakes. One's own worth/dignity is on his lathi (tongue/ words). His harshness verbal & physical has turned her evil to avange her pains and sufferings. We can see many elements of indonesian culture there. Shadow puppets (wayang kulit), traditional dance ( don't know what's it called), kuda kepang /kuda lumping. You can also hear gamelan beat ( traditional musical instrument) collide with EDM in this song. Perfect blend between modern music and culture. Kudos to weird genius for this masterpiece!
