Music Room Tour

A narrated walk through the music room, an environment specifically constructed for this purpose. Comments, questions, and suggestions for improvement are most welcomed.

It sounds like your doors are open and you're not in any musical ruts either. The completist in me understands what you mean about only scratching the surface, but this IS the adventure! None of us can ever hear all the music that's out there, even if we devoted our whole life to that pursuit. It's kind of like world travel; you could never see EVERYTHING. We should always keep traveling, though, to "see" as much as we can. As long as there's good music on the stereo, just enjoy the ride!

Thank you for sharing this video. It is an extremely nice room, and very inspiring. Congratz with all your work on it. Thanks for your kind words! Trust me, I once had vinyl storage exactly as you described. This music room has been a long time coming. There are two ways that you can go for inexpensive shelving. The shelves we built here are 3/4" plywood (birch veneer) cut from 4'x8' sheets. We applied a think trim to the outer edges so that the ply layers wouldn't show. Another option is to buy laminated particle board shelving. Such boards are often finished on one edge. Hope that helps get you started!

There was this place that i used to go to buy my vinyl singles and he had a jukebox for sale. When that one sold he would get another one. But it's gone. That guy trusted me enough to go through singles he had just bought. I spent hours there. But thanks for the tour

Thanks for such kind words, Mark! Having a room like this was just a dream for many years, but I seized an opportunity when my wife and I decided to build our addition. Sadly, there's no dumbwaiter, but I did just install a fridge down here! To be honest, my biggest regret has become not planning for a bathroom. At least I get my exercise on the stairs from the beer I have in that fridge!

Living in Arizona we don't have basements due to the unstable ground out here :( Having lived in Wisconsin I do miss having a basement very much! Very true. That plays a bigger role than most people are willing to admit. I think that's why people turn their back on artists that "make it big." We all want music to call our own. Some do it by seeking out the most obscure things and staking a claim, some do it by striving to be someone's "biggest fan," some do it by trying to amass complete collections of one band or artist, etc. I think it's a trap that we all fall into, to some degree. I really try to keep that in mind, and in check.

Good point. I guess people just pour a lot into their main passions. Some people can't understand why I don't have a big screen TV in the music room, but listening to music is more enjoyable to me than watching just about anything. Viva la difference, though, eh? i really like the music you choose in this video. its modern electronica and instead of the adult people who owns tons of vinyls and all that stuff that only listen to jazz rnb rock aor blues and all that purist genres, you choose a fresh one to do it. (i'm even a biosphere fan)
