Thank you for a fantastic demo ! You have convinced me 100% that my next synth will be a P12. Love it !

Mind if I ask you a question, given your extensive knowledge of the instrument? How do you think this would pair with a rev2? I have a rev2 which i love, but im told that there is so much overlap with the 12, that it wouldnt be smart to get a 12. Now im thinking if thats the case, i should have just gotten that over the rev2. My question is this: are the rev2 and the prophet 12 together redundant, considering that they share the same filter?? Thanks man
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
Ryan I think there is some overlap but the P12 is very unique and has much more oscillator wave forms than the Rev 2 , Rev 2 is more of a general synth workhorse and has a wider sweet spot, can be clean to brassy, P12 sounds more digital and exotic, but is harder to control, So I think the Rev 2 is a very good choice as a foundation. So yes you could get both and I think they would compliment each other. I would look at the P12 module and save $$.......I hope this helps.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the response. You don't feel like the module is limiting, given its absence of knobs?
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
Ryan Huggins I tried the module for a month a was surprised how easy it was to navigate, very effective

Great demo! It’s a head-scratcher why DSI discontinued the P12.

Knyctus yes, will be a collectors item, I do still see the module is available

It's really hard to choose between this, Studio Logic Sledge 2.0, and the Roland JD-XA.
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
not familiar with studio logic but the JDXA can generate some good sounds I think alot of these decisions come down to ease of workflow and which instrument helps inspire us the most to do what we are trying to do

Great video, I hope it could me help to find a decision between P12/P6 and Rev2 . I tested P12 and Rev2 in a store. Could it be that the Rev2 sounds warmer than P12🤔
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
Tip Top thanks....well I have a REV 2 on order so will let you know but based on what I have heard of the rev 2 I would say it has a wider sweet spot and can be warmer. The P12 is it’s own thing though. Also it depends on what you already have, it’s good to have a mix of digital and analog sounding gear.....

Thanks for the nice video! I'm in a similar position as Tip Top. I am deciding between Rev2 and P12 to by my only synth. I like the idea of the P12 offering a mix of classic analog, custom FX, wavetable and DX7 FM stuff with the added possibility for introducing aliasing as a nice digital touch. However I hear that the keybed of the Rev2 is a lot better than on P12 (less finicky), and I suspect that the Rev2 can do most of what I need. I don't buy too much into the analog/digital differences at the oscillator level, but it would be really nice to hear them side by side. If you could do a comparison review it would be much appreciated.
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
Morten Ib Munk-Nielsen thanks, yes the P12 keybed is different, it’s a little sticky when you first play it then it’s fine after a few minutes first it bothered me then It didn’t and it didn’t interfere with playing. I have the rev 2 now and find it more of a workhorse for brass synth and smooth pads and synth bass it sounds more bread and butter classic to me and can be punchier with more defined low end. However the P12 has more oscillator shapes ......Update as of early spring I sold the P12 and some other used gear and got the PRO 2 used and a Rev 2 used and it’s turned out to be a perfect combo, will do a comparison review this summer. The Pro 2 has a P12 voice is much like the P12 but with dual filters and a super strong step sequencer .....so you can’t go wrong but as I often note my decisions are based on what I already have in the studio and try to buy gear that fills gaps ......

Thanks a lot for your respond, for some reason I only saw it now. I was really torn on the decision, but in the end I decided to buy a P12 - I got a great offer for a practically new one. I hope I'll be able to get some good smooth pads out of it. That, smooth lead sounds and synthy electric piano inspired sounds are probably the main concerns to begin with. I decided that a little bit of raw tone could maybe be sacrificed to get FM, more waveshapes and analogue distortion. We'll see, for now I'm looking forward to getting the P12 in a week or two. Did you mean you got a pro 2 used along with your Rev2? That does sound like a perfect combo (what I wouldn't give for having the pro 2 filters on the P12). However I'm looking to have just one synth as I'm exclusively a live player, so for now I'm sure I'll love the P12, and maybe in the future I'll swap to a Rev 2 if I find my needs are more along the lines of the strengths you mentioned of the Rev 2. Thanks again for the video and the tips!

Morten Ib Munk-Nielsen yes, i have the pro 2 and rev 2 bought both used. Really like the combination. Since you play live the P12 or Rev 2 make sense , enjoy the P12 !

Thank you for this review! For some reason there is very few reviews of this synth. I also spot your matrixbrute, which I also have! Planning on getting a Prophet 12 to add some polyphony, between that or Deepmind 12 just so I could save some cash to buy moog modules to use with the matrixbrute's CV but I'm currently leaning towards the prophet and just waiting on the modules. Cheers!
@indiefilmcomposer6 жыл бұрын
Villan Bond you might want to also look at the Rev 2 8 voice which is a good deal, and leaves cash for moog, the matrix brute I think is very powerful amazing sound, thanks glad you enjoyed the video I will be doing moog sound demo next been working on a new world music album ........and i have modular now so trying to work it all in......

JVMC I'm also looking at the Rev 2, not sure if it's better than the prophet 12! Haven't tried either.
@bond41776 жыл бұрын
JVMC If I got the p12 it would be used, full version but if I got the Rev 2 it'd be desktop, not sure how the Rev 2 does desktop tho cus the menu is tiny.

Is it me or does it keep drifting out of tune?
@indiefilmcomposer4 жыл бұрын
D Momcilovic ...yes it’s intentional ......modulation routing to slop and or fine tune of oscillators ....otherwise no tuning issues
