go look up metal vocal tips, its 100% technique. look up corpsegrinder the lead singer for cannibal corpse and see what he has to say about he is able to do back to back to back shows and it doesnt bother his voice at all and its all because of his warm ups and techniques, just like normal singing from a professional they dont usually sing with their actual vocal cords

6:30 people very much can and DO destroy their voices doing this, it takes a massive amount of practice and warmup and aftercare. M Shadows from A7X famously had to completely change and retrain his style after he had surgery to remove a polyp on his vocal chords

Jesse Leach did it on the Alive or Just Breathing tour back in 02. He sounded ridiculous on that record.

To be entirely fair, Shadows' scream was AWFUL. He wasn't projecting from his diaphragm and you can quite clearly hear it in on record and could hear it live. Same with Matt Heafy, who never learned to sing/scream properly, and often got his volume and dirt from the middle of his throat rather than deep in his chest. A study was conducted on metal vocalists that can perform growls/screams of all types and it was found that the way the vocal chords open is exactly the same as what a baby's does. Children have the ability to cry and scream for a VERY long time and do very little if any damage to their voice, mainly because the vocal chords just fly open and allow unhindered airflow. The best metal vocalists effectively relearned this physiological tick that humans kind of forget when we age up. Honestly, it's not damaging when done right. It's basically singing/projecting at full volume and adding dirt on top. People like George Fisher and Randy Blythe have been doing it for actual decades and just keep getting better at it.

To be totally honest I love your reactions because you remind me a lot of my dad, who is a studio singer and has played the piano for 50+ years. Some of my favorite memories are sitting in our living room when a catchy song came on in a movie and he would just walk over to his piano and be able to play the song by ear after figuring it out for 2 or 3 minutes. Great videos!

One thing I truly appreciate about this bunch of videos is the attire they chose for the portion of time they show the band playing together. Stabbing in the dark had a solitary confinement style and this has that camp counselor vibe. The amount of detail in each song visually and lyrically is absolute masterpiece

I went into this a bit on the previous video but I love how each song is inspired by a horror movie. The American Nightmare - A Nightmare on Elm Street Thank God it's Friday - Friday the 13th Stabbing in the Dark - Halloween Savages - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre The Jig is Up - Saw A Grave Mistake - The Crow Rocking the Boat - Jaws Enjoy Your Slay - The Shining Freak Flag - The Devil's Rejects The World in my Hands - Edward Scissorhands Merry Axemas - Silent Night, Deadly Night Love Bites - An American Werewolf in London It is the End - Steven King's IT They really have a lot of fun in the lyrics, the songs, and the music video just pulling a lot of inspiration from the movies themselves. The final cut also has a bonus song called "Your Number's Up" inspired by Scream. Silver Scream 2 is just as much fun with these aspects and it even goes into a bit of video game horror with a song inspired by Resident Evil.

You should check out some of the YT channels that teach harsh vocals. Chris Liepe, Extreme Vocals Institute, Kardavox Academy are great. It's fun to play with all the crazy sounds you can make, and if you do it correctly, it doesn't hurt or harm your voice at all. You do look like a complete psycho when you practice, though. When you scream like that, you do not actually use your throat, well you are not supposed to, it come from the diafragm just like singing but you do a small tweak in the throat... I cannot sing but i can scream long amounts of times at a time without ever getting hurt
