One of the greatest things is Patrick saying Ed Gein said the "head on a stick" quote. It was actually Ed Kemper that said this, but much like his colleagues confuse him for others, he confuses serial killers for one another.
@iwakeupandboomimarat2 жыл бұрын
he apparently does this a lot more in the book, but hes so unaware of the pop culture he seemingly loves that he gets a lot of it wrong (idk if its mentioned in the movie, but he repeatedly calls the girl on the les miserables poster eponine - the girl pictured is actually cosette)
@michaelhutchings85992 жыл бұрын
Mind Blown. For real. Never knew that.
@WalkerOfTheWastes2 жыл бұрын
@@iwakeupandboomimarat He gets quite a lot about pop culture wrong, both in the movie and in the book. The reason is because Patrick Bateman is a personality void; everything he repeats is just from magazines, interviews, quotations from others, and publications. He has no thoughts or principles of his own, much like his fellow yuppies; the only difference between him and them is that he is partially aware of it. It's one of the reasons he 'kills;' he's so desperate to stand out (despite his repeated statements that he wants to fit in) that he engages in increasingly brutal, horrific murders to find some manner of standing out, but no-one cares; no-one cares because his victims, like his "friends," are all interchangable people. Disposable, faceless meat for the grinder. No-one cares, and no-one knows or cares to know. Even when he confesses at the end (which is a lot more ambiguous in the book than the movie) no-one believes him, and even if they did, who cares? The people in his life are all coke-snorting bigoted, shallow, vapid caricatures; everything is commodified and sold, people included, so the odds are that even if they believed he was a serial killer, they'd shrug. That's part of the point; no-one knows anything about anything, because no-one cares to know. Just like Patrick's popculture errors go over peoples heads.

Do you like Dead Meat? Their early work was a little too new media for my taste. But when Halloween (2018) KILL COUNT came out in '19 I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The video has a clear, crisp look and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the kills a big boost. James and Chelsea have been compared to FoundFlix, but I think Dead Meat has a far more cynical sense of humor.

Something that i like about the ending speech, is that even though Patrick is a pathetic evil man, i kind of feel bad for him because, as i interpret it, he actually wants to be found out so that he could mature through the consequences, him being constantlly protected by his privileges prevents him from developing his character, as if there is no real Patrick Bateman but he internally wants Patrick Bateman to become real and he just can't and never will be able to.

15:43 my god this direction is genius to me!! This movie is so fascinating but what’s more so is how it’s been received. It’s genuinely terrifying how many men think that Bateman is aspirational, and want to emulate him. Despite him not only being a murderer but so pathetic as to be devastated and jealous over business cards! Just another example in history of the patriarchy taking something criticizing them as a compliment.

Another terrifying aspect is how many women find Bateman attractive. I'm assuming he's attractive to the "I can fix him" type of women, but he literally murders people (hypothetically), is homophobic, misogynistic, a cheater, obviously very screwed up in the head whether he actually murdered those people or not...but he's conventionally attractive and rich so it's okay, right?

The way he talked throughout was disturbing, with that somewhat calm but almost dream-like and whispery tone. AND 2. The other thing I realized, especially by the ending, was how much Jean actually cared about Patrick because she basically cries when she sees how far down in his own mental illness he's gone from the beginning to the ending. It doesn't make me sorry for him, it makes me more sorry for Jean.

This was a great kill count on a movie with a nuanced meaning that really managed to review the important themes and motifs of the film while keeping a solid eye on the core of the show's purpose. The only thing I'd be keen to see change is to perhaps see more of Chelsea's style in the counting, which might of course appear subtle, considering her impact and contribution to the channel through its life. It's just an opinion after all, but this might be Christian Bale's best performance I've ever seen from him. I love him as Batman, but he was beyond psychotic in this movie and it was brilliant nonstop. And of course, I gotta applaud Chelsea for finally getting her chance to host a kill count on Dead Meat. The closest we've ever seen her host a kill count was the to the numbers bit from the "Freaky" kill count., so seeing her host an entire episode on her own was awesome, particularly because like Zoran and James, her comedic timing was on spot on, maybe because all three started out on comedy youtube channels (lowcarbcomedy and practical folks). But also hearing her knowledgeable deep dive on the film's themes was incredibly interesting. But hey, that's what happens when you're the host of a heavy research horror podcast. I also really loved what, I THINK, was James doing an impersonation of Chris Griffin from family guy for the kill count trailer, because, you know, Mila Kunis is the voice of Meg. Overall, this maybe my favorite kill count of the year so far. Anyways if you'll excuse me, I've got to return some videotapes.

I'm pretty confused with that whole Elizabeth scene. One moment, Patrick is in the bed going at it with Elizabeth, and then he stabs her and Christie runs away. But a few scenes later, she's dead on the bathroom floor? Was Christie running for that long that Elizabeth had enough time to stumble out and die in the bathroom? Did Patrick quickly throw her in there and proceed to chase Christie? Or is it just another "unexplainable mystery" in this movie-- where she somehow teleported to the bathroom or that it's her clone, and that it was all a figment of Patrick's imagination?

“Since he’s at 3 stars now the helicopters are out at full force” killed me😂😂 Honestly this is one of my favorite videos y’all have ever done. Chelsea is amazing at this. Really, all of y’all are, but this video is really good

Yeah in the GTA games getting 3 stars always spawns choppers.

I really love James. But I wish Chelsea would host more kill counts... ❤️❤️❤️

Fantastic kill count by Chelsea, she’s awesome and I really hope to see her hosting more kill counts in the future. Perhaps a shared rota with James and Zoran too. For her first kill count she rocked. Also huge congratulations on your marriage James and Chelsea.

I gotta say, Chelsea did an excellent job in her own Kill Count. Would be cool to see her again in another KC.

I love the podcast, and when James said about Chelsea doing a kill count about American psycho. I was really excited since I loved this movie and grew up watching it. And Chelsea did not disappoint, hope she can do more kill counts!
