I swear it feels like I manifested this comment because I literally was just thinking the same thing from the last video in the playlist to this video, currently sitting around the part of him talking about 7ths and how he's playing them and describing the sound. I was going to comment that very same thing. But you already did. Glad to see someone else shares my sentiment.

I very rarely write comments, but OMG, cannot stress enough how helpful it was to find your series of music theory! After different teachers trying to explain scales, and chord progressions, after reading different blogs, and watching different KZbin videos, and online courses, it is FINALLY becoming clear to me after your videos. Everything makes SO MUCH sense and it is amazing to see how you use it in practice right away. I'm sitting with my notebook, making notes on every video. So excited to watch further. Very inspiring, thank you, man!

We are unschoolers and our son wanted to learn more in depth about music. He's at about the same age I was when I joined band and started learning theory. It's incredible to see how much more he is picking things up while watching your videos than from what I am teaching him from books and my high school and college music course and marching band/orchestra experiences (and having much more fun!). You are an amazing teacher, TAETRO! So grateful for this series!

I understand the theory but I don't understand how people are able to visualize the scale, then find all the chords in key without hitting any of the wrong ones. That's some crazy skills. I'm sure it's more intuitive than calculated with enough practice, but it's still mad impressive even at this relatively basic level.

coming from the guitar with basic music theory knowledge, your video series blew my mind in the last days! I learned how to find chords, invert them, make them sound sexier than ever and I actually understood more of music theory than in the last 15 years of playing guitar. I watched all this and previous videous numerous times and i still get mad when i cant handle it. But i also know that it is not something to rush and it takes time and practice to not even to comprehend fully, but even start understanding. It has a logic, it has a progress and it has relational rules between chords. It is not over though, i will start from very beginning if i am to learn this before everything. This was my lifelong dream and finally started with these serie and luckily found you who really good at teaching in my opinion. There are a lot to learn. I got ableton, i got launchkey mk3 and a long way ahead of me. After these i am going to start your skillshare serie too. No quitting i even love messing up. It's just a kind of madness to love something this much.

I stumbled on this channel via Taetro's review of an obscure midi controller. His presentation style was so captivating, that had to dig into the rest of the content, and stumbled on this Music Theory series. I came from the POV of knowing music theory already, but I'm always curious how others teach it. It is so refreshing to see someone teach it without jumping into a DAW and piano roll and teach it on the actual instrument and theory applied to the instrument. GREAT content and very valuable to beginners and also veterans who need a reminder of not relying on your DAW too much. :)

At 20:05 you include second nine in the chord, which confuses me a bit on how to use such a technique. Why did you use that second note? Doesn't that go against everything we've learned so far in regards to chords + progressions? Adding a 7th 9th etc is fine, but we never learned adding the second note. Just a bit confused by that

At 20:05 when you do an A9 chord, you place the 9th (B) right after the root note. I'm guessing this is an inversion? So with inversions can you place the notes wherever you want, like there is no necessary order correct? Might be a silly question but if anyone could answer I'd appreciate it.
@Leiinstayville27 күн бұрын
I watched your first two videos and understood everything well. Then I came here, finished the video but I was like 'now tf is that'. Then I rewatched again, only the first section of the video (Before you move to the DAW). I let it sit for a while (like a week lmao). During this week, I worked on what I learned so far. Like when I'm on the bus, going somewhere, I played a random key and then all of the chords in it etc. I tried to attempt some inversions (still not good but improving). I started to listen my favorite songs more carefully to find a pattern. Then today, I came back here to watch the DAW part. After two hours of discovering the DAW and everything, I sticked to the same chords as you but changed the beat and melody. I now I have my first lofi sound in my hands! I ued to open DAW just to stare for a while then close it, but now I can feel that I'm actually moving forward. I saw someone call you the Bob Ross of music and I totally agree 😂 Thank you for this series!
@Taetro27 күн бұрын
fantastic! yes it is important to remember that you've got to work and practice this stuff so it can become more fluid. I'm curious, what did you do during your week of practicing/working before returning to the video?
@Leiinstayville26 күн бұрын
@Taetro I actually kept turning back and watched the first half. Also it might be harder to me to understand because English is not my first language, so sometimes I had to look up for the most basic terminology. As I said before, everytime when I'm free I opened the piano app in my phone and selected a random key, played all of the notes in the key, then played all of the chords with them. I kept repeating the wwhwwwh and I ii iii IV V vi vii° in my head. Then I tried to make some inversions and be more flexible with them. I'm a masters student in science btw so I don't have much time to practice but I tried to fill all of my free time with practicing. Now I'm planning to finish your series then move to the course in skillshare, the one you recommended before.

Thank you for your time and effort making these. This series has been my absolute favorite music theory "courses" on KZbin. Everything clicks to me because you only present the content in a PRACTICAL way, using simple terms as substitutions. I.e. key signatures. I watched 5 videos on key signatures, and none of them explained WHY or HOW they are used in plain terms. You showed how to use key signatures the entire series without having to even touch or look at notation and getting confused about sharps/flats on a staff.

okay, can I just say i make terrible music and its been so fun i am diving into music production to make my terrible music sound just as terrible but follows music theory. and as an ex-singer i learned how to read music but i could never really teach myself music because of so many bad resources. i learned scales from someone else and it freaking blew my mind and made me so freaking angry it was just that simple. youve blown my mind in understanding chords. like seriously, im so mad right now i threw my phone across the room and typing this now with bleeding fingers about to faint just to say do not stop this series. this is why i learn things on my own and damn good at it. just so much wishy washy info when it comes to music and music theory. i can make great sounding terrible music now (to be clear, terrible on purpose because hilarious)
