Someone found the right formula for KZbin. 1) Listen to a whole song + 2) Go back and provide analysis + 3) Wrap it all up in 30 minutes with minimal editing = Genius. Too bad more bands don't realize the new medium is KZbin. Well done as always John.

I love this format - glad you like it too, David. Unfortunately I know it won't always work (it's dependent on the band/label/youtube audio/visual copyright algorithm). Have had older videos blocked for playing too much of the original song uninterrupted. But once I discover a new artist that is cool with it I think I'll go with that format for any more of their songs! :)

In earlier songs, as you said, Roman sits back and provides atmosphere to the song. This one is unashamedly guitar led. The whole band knows how to give the space to let rest shine. John, keep up the good work. Your enjoyment is clear and you insight is invaluable.

Discovering Jinjer a couple years ago was like discovering Slipknot and Pantera back in 99. Haven't been this stoked about a band in a long time and this new album is amazing!!! They just keep getting better. I love your channel by the way. also a musician and your break down of music is one of the best on youtube

I have been a huge fan of music and all types of music in general since childhood. I have recordings going back to 1895. I have also been a disc jockey from 1989 to 1999. That's when I left the field because of big corporations taking over and buying out all the great mom and dad stations here in the united states'. They made every genre type of station all cookie cutter. Playing the same songs and nothing else. It's awful. They have no real talent here anymore and everything is voice tracked. Disc jockies are a thing of the past and personal choice in music that a individual would choose is a thing of the past too. The only way you can get that old school talent anymore is by listening to college and high school radio stations and they are very few and far between here in the united states'. I love your channel and reviews that you do. Your understanding of music is incredible. Thank you for what you are doing. Please keep this up. I am so happy I found your channel

"I love your unresolved tri-tone", said once in a black metal barbie parody commercial but I think it applies here as well. haha. Great content! I do some orchestral composition stuff in my newest band and I get a lot of inspiration listening to you because you really do a great job connecting the visceral expression of the music and how it can be beautifully constructed. I really appreciate it!

I think they know what they are doing, lol. They've always been aware of repetition's limits, but they've been growing by leaps and bounds in their composition.

Aaaa yeah it's Jinjer time. So far it's Ronan's incredible guitar killing it. You are so right I have not heard a bad song yet but I like some more than others but everyone is different and at least we agree on one thing Jinjer is great. Again you killed it I'm really feeling this format. Peace from Stan the Alaskan.

All killer no filler, and its like this on every record from first til now its very rare. Shure they dont sound the same but thats just a bonus i think. Like tatiana says "we dont want to be boring" Great break downs of the songs. Nice to se someone with real good understanding of everything from production to song writing. Think many will come to love your input on this channel.

Yes.... all hail the #ALBUM!! :) I'm with you re. my ear being drawn between guitar, drums, bass, vocal (melody as an instrument) on early listens.... then paying specific attention to lyrics later on, once I've absorbed the music & so have the capacity to take in another layer. The unusual thing with Jinjer is how many listens it takes to absorb the music in the first place!... I feel like it's stretching my abilities re. what I can take on board while I'm going thru these new songs. #Rewarding Good call with the wee bit of Mike Bordin-esque drums & Mike Patton-esque vocal phrasing. I wonder if any of them are FNM fans, or whether FNM were just so ahead of their time & widely influential that there are FNM-isms in all sorts of good bands these days?

Another Stellar Analysis. Tati said the guys gave her a demo of all 11 songs and she would spend a couple days with each one to in her words "feel the vibe and atmosphere" it brought to her mind. I'm not 100% positive but I don't think the guys throw out tracks, everything composed for each release is recorded.Tati said with Wallflowers a number of the songs had just a couple lines from a poem she wrote in the past as an idea or a topic in her head as she went into the recording studio & the lyrics were improvised there. The doomy lyrics when the "Hardcore" break came in are So fitting for the speed, an intruder is breaking in with a sack looking for gold.

I love that moment early on where you can see on your face that your brain goes, "YEP!! Another winner!!" :) I have seen some full album reviews from folks who actually say that the album is uninspired, sloppy, generic, etc. I just don't get that. I mean, if you don't like it, fine. I have no problem with that. But if you can't appreciate the talent of this band......I don't know. My only guess is that just like in the gaming community, some folks think it is cool to hate. I heard one dude say that we only like Jinjer because of Tatiana! Like, that is a bad thing or something! LOL!!! Your reviews are the best, dude! Keep up the great work! @module79l283 жыл бұрын
Musical appreciation retirement... I like how that sounds. ; ) In my case, my musical appreciation didn't retire in the early 2000's, it just began to apply to less and less bands. Even nowadays it only applies to a few, Jinjer being one of them. : )

King Gizzard’s album, Infest the Rats’ Nest, needs your full album reaction. It’s only about 35 minutes and tells a lovely story. Or do “Side A” reaction followed by the “Side B”. You’re doing a fine job with these Jinjer videos, keep it up. Can’t wait to see them in November. 🤞
@culloden17453 жыл бұрын
Great analysis again. I notice (and so did you) that there seems to be more 'bluesy' parts to Tatiana's singing on this album. I wonder if this is to give it more appeal to non metal listeners? Easier for people to remember and sing- a-long to in their head .
@FlashKorten3 жыл бұрын
Hi John, always a pleasure! I'd be interested in your thoughts on the intro to Copycat. To me it sounds like a 'normal' 2 bar riff with 4 repetitions, but they seem to start on 2 of the first riff and add one beat right at the end to make up for the difference. I really like it, because I'm thrown off twice right at the start of the song... Definitely overthinking this, but it sounds to me like they wrote it as if 'someone effed up selecting the audio in a DAW to copy and paste'. Have a beautiful day!
@JWSoundworks23 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! And I totally get what you mean with the intro. If I was transcribing it I'd probably do it the following way per bar - 7/4 4/4 4/4 --- 4/4 4/4 --- 4/4 5/4
