This is a great song! It contains a plethora of references from movies, poetry and literature. And still it's a serious hard rock piece. Phenomenal achievement! 😎👍

It's one of my favorite songs from H :||: N, too bad it didn't make it into their recent setlist. Probably because it is difficult to interpret, both vocally and instrumentally. The image of a ship in a storm is quite suitable for a song dedicated to imagination.

I've listend to this song so often and never noticed the base line you mentioned and also that wave-like sounds you pointed out. That's why I love your videos, I always learn something new. 😃 Tuomas puts so many details in his music that the songs never get boring even when you listen to them a hundred times.

And to my ears the rhythm of that bass line is a call back to the keyboard part of the opening riff...

@@homegnome2429 I've just relistened to it, you are right, you have good ears. 😄Tuomas often brings back musical elements in different variations. I think this is one of the reasons why Nightwish songs create this feeling of familiarity.

I can definitely understand why some NW listeners have been alinated by this album. This is definitely something else than the previous albums. I like the evolution of the band. And I really like how this album "forces" you to listen, really listen, with all of the changes going on in songs. Well, hear them a few times and this can become a background music like any other, but it still... "rewards" you if you calm down to really listen to it. And Floor must havr had so much fun singing these. After the initial shock I mean 😂

Through this whole album I picture Tuomas cackling as he exclaims, "I have assembled an incredible group of musicians, and I can make them do whatever I want!" And they do it. All of it. Every time. This album is incredible.

Another great analysis. I think of Tuomas as a classical composer operating in the metal genre. Interesting, every single composition. Coming from a classical background I really appreciate his approach: rhythmic complexity, development of themes and modulation through a series of keys you might not normally find in "popular" music.

Most enjoyable analysis JW, especially the chess peashes 'n guys with beers, thanks buddy. I think most of us get the "Imaginarium" going off in our heads with Nightwish, it's one of the attractions of Tuomas's Master-crafted compositions, and executed to the same level by the entire band. Once again, Thank You. I can't wait for more of your musical insights and technical knowledge, I learn much from them. Have a great evening.

LOL!!! You already had me in stitches but at 14:25 ".. if you happen to like this" followed by "chest peaches" 😂🤣Man, I never had so much fun with a reactor second guessing himself in such a brilliant and very recognizable way. Same here btw, with the drifting & looking through ppl thing. Been like that all my life, as with the not remembering stuff. My wife used to remember things like who was sitting next to whom and was wearing what at some party I never even remembered going to. Always looked up to ppl like that as some kind of superhumans. The difference that made all the difference turned out to be photographic memory. She could actually see it in her mind. I can't see sh!t, and I never did 😂 Oh and I can't wait until you reproduce the piece you did there with keys turned off. The rattling alone sounded like a masterpiece already. So ty for a wonderful reaction. Cheers from Amsterdam!

This song is about the role of imagination in the evolution of mankind, the game elements are an example of a typical form of human imagination. And I think that together with Procession this is for Tuomas the most important song on this album, how many layers/tracks did he put in here? (The same with Procession, only there even more emphasis on Floor’s voice, pushing her to the borders of what is possible) As Tuomas stated, he has already written the next NW album, to be released next year ( or maybe 2024), can’t wait! The symbol for this album consists of the Sumerian symbols of god (the circle) and human (a man and a woman). Don’t think NW ever explained the exact meaning, but the symbols between human and nature are always interpreted as separation between god and humans. But as Tuomas is a musician, who knows if he is thinking the same way as you🤓

The ":||:" in the album's title points to the "Human" & "Nature" (CD 1 & CD 2) aspects present within it, as opposed to simply referring to "human nature", although the play on words is also intentional.
@dac20072 жыл бұрын
I think the :||: symbol has more to do with the contraposition between Human and Nature than anything else Also the title 'Pan' comes from the greek god of amusement, games and so on, hence all the background with the dices and stuff Anyway great reaction as always despite the "chest" pieces and the "beers" 😂

How I hate it when I stumble over easy words... But your version is just too funny. It's not nice to grin about someone fighting with words but I did it anyway - I most liked the chess peaches. My problem word is "Wischwasser" (mopping water) 😄 That bass info showed me how much gets "lost" in the unconcious part of listening - I noticed it but only now it became prominent. Seems as if I'm now listening to a new album - buy one, get one free 🙂

There is very divisive opinions about this album. People hate it or love it. Pretty complex songwriting, maybe harder to get into than the previous records, very progressive vibes with a lot of key changes and some odd time signatures (some people are maybe more into the catchier stuff they done before, which is great as well). Personally i think this album is absolutely amazing, so much details in the songs, you can listen to it 100 times you always find out something you didn't notice before. So much nuances in Floor's singing as well, the people that think she's not used at her full potential by Tuomas are completely wrong and must give a closer listen to this album. Singing at full potential doesn't mean screaming and reaching highest notes as possible every single time (she did that in the ReVamp albums and it was pretty annoying to be honest). I wish they give us even proggier stuffs in the future, since they have now the ideal line-up for that and a perfect vocalist for progressive type of music.
