Describing Jones as a 'solid' bass player kinda implies that he was just in the background doing nothing remarkable when in fact his bass parts were brilliant. Melodic, intricate, super tasteful and often mind blowing would better describe John Paul Jones bass playing. And then you have his arrangement and production skill . Jimmy Page was the unquestioned leader of the band but he was smart enough to not only accept input from Jones but encouraged it and didn't give a damn if the spotlight was on his band rather than himself occasionally

Some of these docs fall so short because of the people being interviewed....like, who are these people? They have very little name recognition and it's the same thing as me being interviewed talking about Led Zeppelin. It makes no sense and carries no weight. Also, these guys talk with such authority as if their opinion is of historical record or something. It isn't. So yeah, this doc isn't very good.

Led Zeppelin was not a "heavy metal" band. Some of their songs could fit in that class of music that was pioneered by Black Sabbath, but overall their music is varied and includes quite a few styles and musical genres. Some of the comments made by those interviewed in this video are odd sometimes. The claim that there are many "time signatures" on "Babe I'm gonna leave you" is simply wrong - the song is based on a standard 4/4 time signature.

I've been a Zep freak since late '74 and I've read tons of articles about what the next album would have been like if Bonzo hadn't died. But here's a brand new thought - what if Jones had passed away? Page or Plant it's quite obviously over, just like it was with Bonham.

Stairway was not ripped off. It's a descending minor progression with a "line cliche" that is frequently used throughout history. If Page is guilty of stealing it, so is Spirit. It's a uninformed accusation. Page did however definately steal the Black Mountain Side theme from Bert Jansch

Led Zeppelin were not heavy metal. This notion was debunked decades ago. And they were far better than any other band both before and since including The Beatles.
@Leon-ym9qm4 ай бұрын
It’s hard to compare the two. The Beatles were pop them psychedelic. Zeppelin was blues hard rock from beginning to end. For me Zeppelin will always be number one. I was once asked if I could only listen to three bands the rest of my like who would not be. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Bob Dylan.
@jayclarke66714 ай бұрын
@@Leon-ym9qm it's all subjective but I can't stand the mainstream establishment types who always put The Beatles on a pedestal above everyone else. They were a phenomenon and great in their own right separate from their huge commercial success, but others were just as good who also have a relevant live legacy.

Zeppelin ended with Presence, to my mind, their best. Best of 7 exemplary studio albums. Not sure why this is titled as 73-80 when it starts with LZ1, but hey ho. Lucky enough to see them at Knebworth, '79.
@johnsrous16162 ай бұрын
When the video reaches the point where Presence was discussed the feeling that was being put out was that it was a poor album and not up to the stratospheric levels of their earlier records. This was not the case. Presence, a great LP, was led by the mammoth "Achilles Last Stand" and its 10min duration but other terrific tracks were "For Your Life," and "Royal Orleans". Presence was far from the band members' favorite album but, to this fan, it was their 2nd best.

There's too much folk and blues in led Zeppelin to call them heavy metal; they're good old rock n roll to be honest!!! Way too much blues guitar licks involved with classical style folk acoustic. They stole from everywhere and did so many covers so I don't see where the heavy metal fits in.
