Sure, there were problems….serious problems (á la “Eve of Destruction”) but there was inherent confidence in the promise of constantly improving lives. An ethereal yet priceless gift would be memories of a summer filled with surf, transistor radios music, bikinis, beads, peace signs, bell bottoms, mini skirts, op-art, the Sunset Strip, real muscle cars, lime rickies, drive-in movies and drive-in burgers joints, and so, so much more.

I was born in 1960. The 70s is when I came of age as far as rock was concerned. I glommed right onto Heart and Abba, because I had a crush on all the girls lol!. But I loved all of the 70s rock. When the 80s came along, I loved all of the 80s rock. I also went into intense "Beatlemania" in the 80s. I loved all of the 90s rock. I loved all of the 2000s rock. I loved all of the 2010s rock and _alt_ rock. And I love all of the 2020s rock/alt-rock. I have hundreds of tunes from every decade on my playlist. I also have what I call, 1920s rock, 1930s rock, 1940s rock and of course _actual_ rock from the 1950s. My philosophy is if the song rocks to you, it is _rock_ lol! If you love all of the rock of the year you live in, you will never grow old. But if you freeze in a decade, and can progress no further, you will become curmudgeonly and grumbly. In a word, you will _age_ . Around 2015 I began to cultivate an extraordinary interest in 1960s rock. So the way I do it now is to play in chronological order of years. 1950s to 2020s dedicating a full month to each decade. The older music is more of an interest and I don't have nearly enough songs to make up good playlists for 1920s to the 1940s (yet). I add new 2020s tunes by the month. Try out "Wet Leg", "Car Seat Headrest", "Muse" (of course) and "Idles". And there are just pots full more. *What* a time to be alive! Look up "Izumi3682 and the world of tomorrow"

You like everything. Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It originated from black American music such as gospel, jump blues, jazz, boogie-woogie, rhythm, and blues, as well as country music. Rock 'n' roll is a popular music genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues (R&B), jazz, and country music with the addition of electric instruments. Originally associated with youth revolt and transgression, the genre is known for energetic performances, catchy melodies, and often insightful lyrics.

Great selection of music, REAL MUSIC! RAP is not music, it's NOISE. No talent for rap, anyone can talk to music playing, to sing with a good voice takes talent! Haven't heard many of these songs in a long time. Thanks for posting the video!

Loved Del Shannon. Had this 45 and my 2 or 3 year old nephew loved it too. He would run and get it and ask me to play it for him. He recognized it by the bright pink label. This brought back special memories of my nephew. We loved him so much. I haven't thought about this in years.

I like the 60's I graduated from high school in 1960. But the 70's in my opinion were the pinnacle of modern musical artistry. Almost all canned music in stores is 70's which is a tribute to that era.

Some of these songs I was trying to learn by ear listening to the radio and waiting for them to be played on the radio. There was no recording device at that time. Today I can get the tabs, chords, lyrics and youtube of someone teaching it. I can slow it down to get every note and watch how it is played.. What a world.

We had what started as a garage band after seeing the Beatles set the world on fire. Born in he forties we had the DooWop groups, then the bop, Elvis and all but, going off to war and listening to how America was struggling through those turbulent times, I can honestly say it’s the music I loved the most. Played music all those years and yet, I would grant that every generation believes their music is and was the best. That’s the beauty of music. It takes you to memories only those beats ever could. God gives us the gift of music and it should always be that way.

Sincere condolences for loss of your beloved family members. Born in '63, many of my cousins, aunts & uncles were all within shouting distance. When five, I spent a lot of time at J's while cuz's were in school & my folks worked. I am forever indebted to Darlene for letting me play her 45's while primping at her vanity, daydreaming of being teenage like her. No one had to babysit me, I was entranced just watching their newfangled washing machine agitate with the lid up (no safety stop yet). Following that exciting preschool adventure (LoL) I'd spin records for hours daily, entranced by sounds of Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, John Fred & his Playboy Band, Allan Sherman, Otis Redding, Herb Alpert, B.J. Thomas, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, The Supremes, The O'Kaysions, Aretha Franklin & so many more! I discovered LP's once parents joined mail-order record club, developing a lifelong love of multiple genres, ultimately becoming a musician.

I am from Sydney Australia. I see the number of comments about Del Shannon and rightly so. He was far from a one hit wonder, say a ten hit wonder might be closer to the mark. I was lucky to see him live at Castle Hill RSL Club about six weeks before his terrible death. He was great on stage that night although i felt he looked a bit worn out. Couldn't believe it when a few weeks later he was no longer with us. I think he must have suffered from bipolar disorder to do what he did. So much talent.
@blueycarlton3 жыл бұрын
I believe Del's last recorded performance was in Sydney. I was in Perth WA in 1975 and walked down an alley way from a car park next to a pub and Del was performing. The side door was open and you could see and hear him.

Interesting comment and at the time of his passing I read he was really depressed and upset due to the Four Seasons being inducted to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. He wasn’t inducted and felt he should have been instead of the Four Seasons. I happen to have a concert program where both performed in 1963 in the UK and autographed by both.

I saw an interview with Del's wife. She felt certain that Prozac caused his actions. He had long been suffering from depression. She thought it was a bad side effect of Prozac, which had been intended to help.
