They have to be careful with Saiki's voice - she already had problems once and had to have surgery. So, they do things to give her a rest now and then. Like songs with Miku singing vocals or, as in this case, instrumentals. Thanks for reacting to this song - it's the one that hooked me on Band-Maid and so a favorite.

Onset also hooked me on Band-Maid, after a couple other songs had made me curious to hear more. Seems like there's no set rule on their fans' favorites though. That can happen when they have so many excellent songs!

This song is added to Band Maid's sets to give Saiki a vocal break! It is a epic instrumental song, for sure! Another instrumental song that is pure ear candy is "Without Holding Back"! "Play" started out as a instrumental song, but Saiki liked it so much she ask Miku to add lyrics so she could be a part of it, so lyrics were added! Keep the Band Maid coming!

Their song "Play" was supposed to be an instrumental as well. Heard that Saiki liked the song that she wanted Miku to write lyrics for it, so she did. You haven't done a reaction to that one yet. Saiki's break time gives the fans an awesome musical experience. If they did 2 or 3 instrumentals I would be fine with that. They are so skilled that is why they are all featured players and they all get time to shine continually throughout a concert. Band-Maid is an atypical Rock band. Unique, Dynamic, Stunning, Brilliant, Prodigious........................etc. Keep'em coming. Peace.

A certain MR EDDIE VAN HALEN would be impressed with KANAMI'S tapping technique. Originally, Kanami played Addictone guitars but once she was noticed, she’s been PRS all the way! Kanami- PRS / Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier + 8 or 9 different pedals Miku- Zemaitis Custom / EVH 5150 (EDDIE VAN HALEN) stack + various pedals MISA- Black Cloud custom 5 string bass / Orange stack Akane- Drum Kit: Tama Star Bubinga, Snare Drum: Ludwig, Cymbals: Zildjian (left to right) Oh, by the way- JIMMY PAGE OF (LED ZEPPELIN) loves BAND-MAID, enough said.... I wish EDDIE VAN HALEN could see his 5150 AMP standing tall on stage as these lovely maids’ shred!!!! Hope to see them live in 2022 rocking CALIFORNIA!!!!!

MISA, the bassist, has the MOST PERFECT bass tone of anyone currently playing. Her skill as a bassist is in the upper most echelon of current players as well. She has a trio of custom basses from a boutique Japanese shop called Black Smoker running through blacked out Orange amps and cabinet, don't know what pickups she uses. She is endorsed by Black Smoker as are all the other musicians in the group except for Kanami the guitarist (PRS needs to get on that), though she is endorsed by Ernie Ball. Akane - Tama drums Miku - Zemaitis guitars MISA - Black Smoker

Kanami sends the basic song to MISA (bass) and Akane (drums) by internet. Both then add their lines and sends it back. The full song then goes to Miku for the lyrics (now Saiki is involved). Then to the studio for final song, with Saiki having the "We're Done" call. Miku in an interview did say that she has gotten with Kanami to "fine tune" the music to make the lyrics work. They do not live near one another so they use internet tools to work on their music and to just visit. There are plenty of interviews, in English on Reddit, to learn all about them.

If you have a chance, check out the instrumental versions of some of their songs. Their instrumentals can be standalone because of how they construct their songs. According to the members, Kanami creates an instrumental shell. Akane makes the rhythm, Saiki develops the melody based on the rhythm, Miku writes the lyrics, and Misa freestyles the accents. No wonder a lot of reactors comment on their cohesiveness. Listen to a song and it's like each member is doing their own thing but somehow the voices and instruments unify. No one steps on each other's toes.

The "Impossibly Hard Rocking Maid Band" are already a legend in Japan and the World. It's concept is based on the Maido Culture of the Maid Cafés, in Akihabara, Tokyo. Aka he global Anime capital of the World and home of shopping for electronics in Tokyo. If you walk around in the area, you'll see hundreds of Maids standing on the street, dressed in frilly uniforms, holding signs, being cute and trying to talk to you and lure you into a café. Maids are actually a service. You can talk, play games, read manga together, have them serve you food, coffee or tea, keep you company, sing for you, play music, treat you like a prince/princess. It's a modern version of a Maiko, a young trainee Geisha (Artist). Maiko--> Maido (there is actually a Band Maid special MV, where they appear as Band Maiko). There are no erotic overtones or services in all this, only the absolute fun experience of interacting with a Maid at a public place. Kinda like a Cute Talented Friend Experience. And in the devastating loneliness of a vast megasprawl like Tokyo, they are necessary. For all this, a customer pays for their time at a rate found on their sign they hold. Different cafés, have different rates, based on the entertainment potential and beauty of their Maids. A lot of young, pretty and cute university students work as Maids, to supplement their income. You can see the Maids if you visit the area, and they're a big tourist attraction in Tokyo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJDNqJJ7n9eAn8U . Unfortunately, the Pandemic has laid ruin to the Maido Cafés, because of the tourism industry crunch, something that Band Maid even point out in on of their latest MVs.

Giving Saiki's voice a break (not to mention Miku's too) presents an opportunity for Miku's rhythm guitar prowess to not be buried by Saiko's voice, Misu's bass, Akane's drums, and Kanami's incredible displays of multiple techniques. If vocals were at the forefront we would not hear how Miku's guitar work accentuates Miku's bass line and complement. Kanami's lead. Right after the intro when Akane drops out for a moment and allows the guitars go front and center, Miku's guitar provides a textural base for Kanami's lead that really pops out, it has a complex sound that borders on dissonance.

I'll preface this by saying Band Maid never did it for me, personally. The schtick isn't really my thing (see also Babymetal). But credit where credit is due, this song slaps! There's so many eras of hard rock & metal being represented here. I hear everything from Eddie to Slash to Claypool to White Zombie and more modern tapping and picking mixed in... this really feels almost like an homage. Very cool. Dunno if this has made me a fan, but I can certainly dig this track. 🤘

lol. being put off from hundreds of amazing songs by amazing musicians because of how they dress? You will seriously do better to listen to music based on its sound not how the musicians dress- just some advice. Also- dont compare them to baby metal. Besides not being metal- baby metal do NOT play instruments or write their own music and were created by the studio. Bandmaid are the total opposite and world class musicians and song writers.

Except being japanese, there's nearly no common point between Band-Maid and Babymetal: on one side you have a legit band, formed the usual way (one member meets another one, who knows someone else ... ), where each member is a musician (even singer Saiki plays some piano and guitar, even if not on stage), who compose, write and (co)produce their music , on the other side you have a manufactured group of three singers/dancers backed by a (very good) band. It's like comparing Metallica and The Backstreet Boys because they're both american 😁 .

I love them both. I've seen BM 5 times and BM 3. I just don't understand the animosity that " strictly BANDMAID" fans have towards BABYMETAL. I get ashamed knowing Kanami would not approve. It's like an inferiority complex or a little brother syndrome. Someone compares them and you say you can't compare. And then you compare them to prove your point. This guy doesn't even compare. Sounds like he mentions costumes. Which is an actual similarity. Manufactured? Yeah. They were the heavy music club of cherry blossom academy. They went viral and everything was built around that. Found a market and capitalized. Bandmaid did the same thing really. Not being BABYMETAL fans you guys don't understand how talented they are. The female Idol category is the most competitive in the Japanese entertainment industry. They won small (3,000) contests to get signed. They were the standouts among other girls at various levels. The best girls get invited to try out for Sakura Gakuin. After 8 weeks the best are chosen. For BABYMETAL they tapped their best singer, best dancer and the only one with enough energy to keep up with the dancer. They are literally the best of the best. You guys don't like them. That's cool. Putting them down is not. Craig Billow doesn't like either and that's cool. I love both and thats extra cool. Elevown- good point about listening to the music. Craig likes this one song. He might want to try listening without watching to see if they grow on him. By the way. Did you guys know that for an early BANDMAID album BABYMETAL gave them a plug on their website?

Imagine being nobody trying to describing/judging a band waaaaaay more popular and skilled than you ever would be in your life.

I don’t have to imagine it. I am quite aware that this is exactly what I’m doing. It is perfectly acceptable to have opinions and reactions to things you yourself can’t do. This is the very essence of being a music fan. You don’t even have to be a musician to describe how a piece of music hits you and judge it as great or not. This is human culture. Perfectly natural thing.
