What she and her sound engineer have done is they changed the key from Major to Minor which gives the song a dark tone. I suspect they spent quite a chunk of time sorting it all out. BTW I FINALLY remember that New Zealand Contralto's name; Toni Braxton(I'm almost 80 years old so my memory is typical for a man my age). Here's one of her greatest hits. At the age of three in the middle of Russia's far northern Winter she was abandoned, injured, at a bus stop where she was rescued and sent to an orphanage. At the age of 5 she was still traumatized and unable to speak properly. A massage therapist who visited the orphanage trying to help kids, was the first to recognize something special in this little girl, and eventually adopted her. Diana was sent for singing lessons because it was thought that this might help her learn to speak without impediment. Only two years later she started singing in local theater, and in street plays and performances. And soon after was entered in a Russian TV music competition for disadvantaged children. By the age of 10 she was winning local competitions, singing on live TV shows, and her songs started showing up on KZbin. I feel the same way although she has grown on me over time. Haunting is how I usually describe her vocals. The melodic minor will always change the feeling, but not just anyone could do what Diana does with her voice. The expressions on everyone’s face is sufficient to show how shocking she is.

Diana Ankudinova was only 18 when this performance took place. This cover of Elvis Presley's, Can't Help Falling In love" now belongs to her and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound which is a very rare female voice type. In particular, the tone quality, timbre, roundness, and depth of her voice and her resonance, further define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare contraltos. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a very rare talent to have and is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes it sound like two different voices at the same time. This polyphonic sound is why some people mistakingly think she is using a voice synthesizer or vocoder or something else to manipulate her sound, or there's another voice singing off stage in the background, or she is singing over a pre-recorded track. There is no artificial manipulation of her voice going on at all. Also, on average the majority of female singers usually don't reach their full vocal maturity until they are around 23 to 26 years of age. I am looking forward to what Diana will sound like when she reaches full vocal maturity. When she does and has had more years of voice training with her voice teacher plus several more years to hone her stage performance skills, there can be no doubt that Diana Ankudinova will be a wonder to behold and a vocal force to be reconded with. Finally, this competition is called the "ShowMaskGoOn". and the "Can't Help Falling in Love" Elvis Presley cover by Diana was judged by a panel that is all professional singers in their own right and they compete with and against each other and judge each other. By the way, the judge on the top row that stands up is a famous opera singer that's well known in Russia and the blond woman in the red dress that looks totally shocked and at the end of Diana's performance puts both hands on the top of her head knows she has to compete with Diana Ankudinova. And finally, Diana won this competition.

Andrea, Diana is so uniquely talented that her voice is not only dark as you say, but edgy. If I were on my way to heaven, but had to pass by angelic singing of pure goodness and land in purgatory I would hear Diana's voice pulling me in like I had a choice. She is dark yet not demonic... so enticing, so captivating.... enchanting like the siren's call. Greetings from Scotland! Interesting that you said *"It feels like her voice is it's own entity!"* You're pretty close to the mark there actually. When Diana sings a very emotional song (she does happy too!) she often allows the song itself to take over her body and soul! I suspected it for a long time and she actually mentioned it in a TV interview before one of her concerts. She said it was quite normal for her to have no memory of the performance (having to watch a video afterwards to self evaluate) and sometimes taking several minutes to be aware of what's happening around her! Diana's child hood was less than happy , maybe some of the bad times in her life go into her music , she is a very kind , sharing and nice person in real life . Her voice teacher and Dad also died last year . She has had more tough times in her life than most people . If you ever notice she kind of goes into a trance when she begins to sing a song . She is a Really Rare Contralto , and also sings Polyphonic and overtones . She was born May 31st 2003 and is now 18 years old .

Performance is about growing love that starts from dark underground, then growing lights and transforms into supernova that is going to blast...

Here are three reasons why Diana doesn't sound human. First, she is a dramatic contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.

There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles. Another song to listen to: The song is Bopoha (Varona) - The Crow, and is from the same show she was participating in. BTW, a "white crow" in Russian is someone who stands out from everyone else, in a positive way. She... blew the bloody doors off.. to borrow from Michael Cain with this one.😁😎🤣 She normally has to organise her own performances. This being a major TV show she got the full Technical stage support she deserves. This is 5th elements alien Diva, set against Avatars planet at night... sound recording to match. 👍🏼🌟 The arrangement was based on the Tommy Profit minor key version ...but this was arranged by the guy who did her early arrangements for wicked game and Rechencka at 14/15 yo. She can summon such emotional force and power even the opera singer guest judge was on the edge. She starts from a dark lullaby and takes it into a fantasy world... with spine jerking power. Try Crow and Personal Jesus covers from the same competition series.... She has been exploring different genres and her regained upper range so theres a lot more stuff on her channel..

I would suggest that it's not so much 'horror' as maybe 'obsession' which only means an emotion that envelops someone and is beyond their control. She has a compelling voice that captures the listener. Glorious!
