This is just bonkers. I normally don't listen to stuff this jazzy, but there's something so appealing about what they're bringing to the table. Such a unique tapestry of sound and outrageous musicianship. The drums were obviously the hero here, but the other two weren't resting on their laurels, either. The synchronicity and the search for the downbeat here is just a mind-melting puzzle that pays off time and again. So cool to watch. Glad I got to experience this with you for the first time. Jonah drifts from Lyle Mays to Chick Corea...and back again...and again. The depth of musicianship in this group makes you take special notice. You're completely right when you say that there's percussion as well on this. I think the name of the guy that records percussion for them is Andreas Ekstedt, but they forgot to mention him in the credits of this one, and made a whole story of why they didn't mention him here, in the credits of Next To You instead. They are so silly. :D Also, Aron doesn't play double kick. Ever. He said, in an interview, that he bought one when he was 13-14, but his older brother (who also plays the drums) told him that he sucked at playing single, and shouldn't start with a double before he mastered the single kick. He's stuck to single kick ever since. :)
