Power Windows, from which this beautiful tune was borne, came out in 1985, so indeed, it doesn't get more 80s than this!

RUSH was probably the most creative band ever. No matter what type of mood you’re in, there’s a RUSH song or “era” to satisfy you. As my RUSH friends always say…… There’s a RUSH song for anything. 🤘🤘

This song is about the unknowable yet undeniable rhythms of nature and the universe. Its about how they draw us away from the ease and comfort of the safe and familiar, and pull us toward the mystery and uncertainty of the distant and unknown.

The atmosphere they were able to conjure on this song is incredible. It's slopping over with an ethereal quality. The lyrics are very evocative and give a real sense of humility.

This is my favorite Rush song. If you need any proof, just look at my handle. I appreciate the fact that you listened to the entire song before laying down your verdict, and I respect how you feel. I'm all in, and it looks like you're all in as well. 😁

I used to play the hell out of the live version of this track when I was sitting in my bedroom as a teenager. After watching the reaction I went back and listened to the live version from A Show of Hands and I still feel it's the definitive version of this song. It sounds like they played it at a little quicker tempo live. Great hypnotic guitar work by Alex on this tune.

🤯🙄😏🤭😊.... 🤗 So it's not just me. 😳 Honestly it took a second when they started playing for me to figure out which song it was. 😒 Because it was still "new" back then. 🤨 Suddenly feeling old now! 🤭😁😏 This sound so much better Live. 🥰🐰

The lesson you get from Rush? Despite the song coming out in the middle of 80's they managed to still sound like RUSH!

Yeah...the song can seem tame...but still waters run deep 😌...the thing about Rush ...and music as a whole it is a language that stays with you and can bring comfort and revive sometimes painful memories through all the seasons of life. Rush is therapeutic depending on the mood 😌thank you John for new memories of Rush...keep exploring.

I remember a news show in the1980s, with Connie chung as a hostess. It was like 20/20. I think it was called '1986'. This song was the intro, if I recall

This was when Neil discovered African and world drumming. It affected him deeply, so out came some thoughtful lyrics. I think while it’s a transparent ode to his discovery, it easily can serve as a metaphor to represent many things. Great reactions! I love Power Windows.

I'VE BEEN A RUSH FAN SENCE I WAS 16 IN 1981. SEEN THEM LIVE A DOZEN TIMES LIVE , AND WHEN I'M DOWN I CAN LISTEN TO ANY RUSH SONG 🎵 AND IT BRINGS ME UP. I WAS BROKEN HEARTED WHEN NEAL PASSED , BUT HIS INFLUENCE ON THE INDUSTRY WILL LIVE ON. YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT NEALS SOLO IN LIVE IN RIO.

This was the highlight of my Rush concert for me. Saw them in '85 I think. The song is not my fave but as a young drummer at the time, I couldn't figure out how Neil executed it. Thankfully our seats at the show were on the upper side and just close enough to be able to see his hands and feet. Well worth it.

You got it I think. Talking about all things mysterious and unknown, and Neil phrases it so poetically and beautifully. This track is one of those very creative songs that Rush tends to throw in that is quite a departure from everything on the album or what they have done before. Truly a great song and crafted so well. I would throw "Red Sector A", "Scars", "Vial Signs" and even "The Garden" in that kind of category. They always stretched the boundaries, but it still always sounded uniquely like them.

I don't think Rush ever did anything to appease their fans. They made the music they wanted to make. In Neil's words, "Yes it is for me not you, I came to write this song." It just so happens that many of us fans liked it too (though many others dropped off). Please travel back to A farewell to Kings. It's one of my top three. Thanks!

I think they have always left a little teaser of where they are heading in the last tracks of their albums. A subtle, this is where we are heading, join us if you feel it.

I think if are going to continue to do Rush album by album in my opinion you should react to the live version of said song. They are a live band nothing better than watching there live performances.
@lisaharrison10312 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I have been going to concerts since 1972. I have seen pretty much all of the classic rock & PROG-rock” bands that are deemed “the greatest” . To name a few: RUSH (way more than any other band) Led Zeppelin The Who Genesis (a lot) YES David Bowie Deep Purple The list goes on…….. But of all those bands, RUSH was the absolute best. They never gave less than 200% every time. I have seen them over 70 times from 1975 to 2015. You really need to watch RUSH LIVE!!

@H C yea, alot of people love it. My buddy and I (15 at the time, both huge Rush fans), when the album came out hated the album with Mystic Rhythms getting most of our hate. Over time, Ike many who loved thier earlier work, I learned to appreciate the album- however this song still bothers me when I hear it, can't explain it. Didn't know anyone who actually liked the synthesizer mid/late 80s Rush until I started watching reactions on here. Glad alot of fans did and do, alot of great music that took me too long to appreciate.

@@joedecker3900 My Classic Rush is first half of the 80's. Permanent Waves to Power Windows. My top 5 Rush albums came right in a row. The early stuff is great and very prog, but Rush hit their stride with Permanent Waves. Love all Rush, but least favorite era is very early stuff with Ged's screechy/screaming vocals. Love the 70's musicianship as a drummer, but 80's had musicianship, better production, better lyrics, drum sound, accessible vocals..... Just my opinion. I know many Rush fans just the opposite. There is no right answer. What's great about Rush is that all fans have different favs:)
@carlgibbons57772 жыл бұрын
@H C I mostly agree with you. HYF one of my least favorites, but I can find plenty to like on Presto and Roll The Bones. The production is not great with the wimpy bass sound, but I love songs like Show Don't Tell and Dreamline. Agree on Counterparts. It's probably my #6 fav album after the 5 I mentioned:)
