They were in a situation where they committed a crime, fuse, which was unacceptable at the time, several thousand years ago. Even though Jasper is in the closet cuz when she fused with Lapis, she liked it and even wanted to be back fused with her when separated but still hated on other fusions.

You'll probably get a ton of comments point it out, but the song is actually literal. Garnet (singer, who's voiced by Estelle) is _literally_ two gems fused together. If you look at her visor during this song, you can actually tell which gem is the more dominant for each line (red for Ruby, blue for Sapphire).

The lyrics are in reference to the fact that Garnet is a fusion between Ruby and Sapphire. “This is Garnet, back together.” They had been separated on that ship and Steven brought em back together. “The two of us ain’t gonna follow your rules. Come at me without any of your fancy tools. Let’s go just me and you, let’s go just 1 on 2.” There’s many more references to this throughout and you should definitely check out this episode and read the lyrics. Nice catch on the chords tho! I had no idea it followed Just the two of us which again is another reference.

Honestly I think so too, it's basically showing us that Ruby and Sapphire have found a love so strong, that it transends them into its own being. Garnet is everything they are and more, she is literally how Ruby and Sapphire communicate to eachother without having the need to unfuse and talk, expicially when words aren't enough. Even if they are two seperate entities, they come together to become one. Garnet is literally the embodement of their love. Their anger and their sorrow.

Yesss. This is my fav song after It's Over Isn't it. It's a little more difficult lyrically for these songs than others because they're very situational and narrative of specific things that are going on in the show. You can still grasp the over all meaning, but when you watch the show, it hits so much harder. This song had quickly become almost a theme for the series, or rather the line "I am made of love." Estelle, who voices Garnet, made a sort of live music video at San Diego Comic Con 2017 and invited all the Steven Universe fans to join in on the sing along. It's such a powerful video and shows how much this show means to the fans.

a nice thing about this song is that in Homeworld, the gem's planet, its really reprehensible a fusion/relationship between different kind of gems. ruby and sapphire fled their home, their own planet, because ruby would be murdered if they had stayed. their history is a metaphor about homophobia and the song is literally both of them facing this after hiding for thousands of years because of how much they love each other. its one of my favorites steven universe songs

This song alone reinvigorated my interest in the series when first saw it. The emotional depth this show goes into is more developed than most adult programming. You aren’t alone, there is already a mashup of Stronger Than You with Just The Two Of Us. Personally more familiar with the three way Just The Two Of Us Are Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Than You.

I don't know if you alresfy knew this but, the creator made a point to assign instruments to each of the characters that kind of represent them and are used for their themes. When to of the gems fuse into a new gem (fusion means two gems come together into a new person with their combined personalities and skills), the fusions theme combines the two gems instruments as well. So I just thought that was pretty cool.

An interesting fact about the steven universe songs, they tried to use 1 instrument per character. So Pearl is piano but garnet is a bass or something. and they tried to keep this idea troughout the series.

You really have to listen to Love Like You from this show. The song was released over the course of three seasons in the ends credits. It’s essentially about someone else loving you so much that you being to love yourself.

Another bit of background on the song- I don’t remember all the details so I’ll keep it simple. Rebecca Sugar who made the show talked about how she was inspired from discrimination and I believe also someone attacking their and their boyfriend (also someone who worked on the show) Ian Jones Quartey.
