I remember just having an other worldly experiencing listening to this song for the first time. I’ve NEVER felt more seen before than with this song. I’m SO SO excited to see you react to this musical but even more to one of the final songs "Good for you" because it’s just so raw and hurts so much BUT it’s even better when you listen to it in order so I will patiently wait for it

This song will forever hold a special place in my heart as for certain levels of my High School choir we had to audition for them. I got into the 2nd best (said my vocals were right, knowledge of music was off) choir class in the school because of my audition, which I did to this song.

Hey David, there's a song that was cut from Dear Evan Hanson before it hit Broadway because they wanted to focus on Evan's point of view for the play but the song is absolutely gorgeous and emotionally devastating. I highly recommend it, it's called In The Bedroom Down The Hall and is a song in the point of view of Evan and Conner's mothers. Chirimo did an animatic for it that goes perfect with the song. Ben Platt really does have a wonderful voice. I really hope that he is remembered for his Broadway performance rather than the movie musical of DEH(which wasn't great). Side note, if you want to nerd out to some really complex musician's music, you should react to some Stephen Sondheim. Some songs that leap to mind are "Finishing the Hat" performed by Mandy Patinkin from Sunday in the Park with George and "Ladies Who Lunch" performed by Patti Lupone from Company. (Also "(Not) Getting Married Today" from that same show sung by Madeline Kahn.)

Some background and information for you on Dear Evan Hansen David: The writers of the soundtrack, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are an iconic songwriting duo known for their lyrical work on La La Land, and their songwriting on Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman, and several other musical works! I would suggest mostly listening in order, but some matter more than others. The order is Anybody Have A Map?, Waving Through A Window, For Forever, Sincerely, Me, Requiem, If I Could Tell Her, Disappear, You Will Be Found, To Break In A Glove, Only Us, Good For You, Words Fail, So Big/ So Small, Finale (For Forever reprise). The most important to understand storywise would be If I Could Tell Her and Words Fail. My next suggestions would be You Will Be Found(Really lit), For Forever(Awesome song), and Good For You(Guitar angst).

People can say what they want about this show, but this show's music is SO GOOD! So many bops! So many emotions! I've found myself humming one of the songs at least once a day. This, Sincerely Me, and You will be found are probably the most popular. My personal favorites are Good for you, For Forever, If I could tell her, Words Fail, So Big/So Small, and Requiem. Honorable mentions are Disappear and Anybody Got a Map? Yes I basically just named all the songs...but can you blame me? I love this album lol.

Literally all of DEH is fire, you should listen to all of them, even if it isn't for the videos For forever, sincerely me (I'd watch the animatic it makes it a million times better), you will be found, requiem, the bedroom down the hall, and part of me are all my personal faves if you want a starting point I'm so glad you loved this song! It gets even better with context (the tree thing) and the philosophical concept of "a tree falls in an empty forest, did it ever even fall"

After listening to that masterpiece, you definitely need to listen to Words Fail, it's one of those songs that uses one of the more calmer part of WTaW in it but this time makes it the upper power and makes it more meaningful, if that makes sense, its basically the sequel and its my personal favorite.
