I was REALLY hoping you would react to this one! This has become my favorite music video of all time! PURE GENIUS!! The video is re-telling the entire Wizard of Oz story using modern music. This was purely Todrick's baby. He did all the production and arrangements (I don't think Bram or Boyer had anything to do with this one, but I could be wrong about that). Although he was a few years older than them, Todrick grew up with Scott, Mitch & Kirstie in Arlington, Texas, and had known them since they were all kids. He had wanted to do a project with them and his all-time favorite movie is Wizard of Oz, so this match-up worked perfectly. This was a BIG breakthrough performance for Kirstie, who had been primarily in the background in the group's career up to this point...and she COMPLETELY knocked it out of the park!! If you watch the last scene, just before Kirstie-as-Dorothy clicks her heels, you'll see Scott give her a little "proud big brother" glance that's very heartwarming.

This video probably got both Kirstin AND Todrick their eventual runs on Broadway in Kinky Boots (at different times). It IS a little bizarre to see a music reactor who doesn't know the plot of The Wizard of Oz. This is literally that plot, but compressed and using contemporary songs instead of the original songs from it.

Super Reaction! Glad you enjoyed! I cant get over how well they picked the songs that retold the story of The Wizard of Oz so well! The transition from Scott to Mitch with the “do you” was brilliant! Notice too Scott, the scarecrow wanted a brain so his song said “I’m thinking about” and Mitch, the tinman wanted a heart, so his words “my heart is damaged.” As you caught, Kirstin sings “you’re lying on the cold hard ground” to Avi who is a”lion on the ground” ....just so so so well played! Kirstin dreamt of being on Broadway (which she has done now) & she was spectacular! A full production! Is there anything PTX can’t do? Nope. Now you know why comments after the Home medley was released said it gave Pentaholics “the Wizard of Ahhhs feeling” from the home songs at the end! This was Todrick’s production. He knew Scott, Kirstin & Mitch back in their high school days. If you wanna hear Kirstin explain her name, you might put “Starships” on your reaction list. It’s another throwback full production& so fun!

That is an interesting observation about their voices being consistent even in growth, when others change more. I wonder if that could have a correlation with how much development and skill someone obtains throughout their childhood and teens, especially how much work is happening during puberty, as opposed to those who got a later start.

Sit your butt down and watch The Wizard of Oz. Old, old movie (1939), but a total classic. One of the earliest movies to use the three-strip Technicolor method, and I think one of the few movies of the time to use *both* color and black and white to separate between Dorothy's dream (Technicolor) and reality (black and white). This video was an homage to the movie, doing a montage of pop and R&B songs to tell the story of the movie. If you notice at the end of the video, they show clips of the actual movie behind the group as they sing.

With all respect (I've been enjoying your reactions, and the interview with Ben Bram was gold) you might want to watch the original classic movie "The Wizard of Oz." It's part of the U.S. cultural fabric. When this first dropped I transcribed the lyrics. This is a retelling of the Wizard of Oz using current music. Kirsty played Dorothy, Glenda the Good, and the Wicked Witch. Scott, Mitch, Avi and Kevin played farm hands and munchkins. Scott was the Scarecrow, Mitch was the Tin Man, Avi was the Cowardly Lion, and Kevin kept Dorothy company as Toto. They reprised part of the end in their "Home" video from their @Home release.

Most of the songs at the end that had 'home' in them ended up on their pandemic EP Home that is only available electronically. They released it late Spring 2020 when everyone was on lockdown after their tour got canceled. They recorded their parts individually at home and even recorded videos individually at home. It was then mixed all together. It kept Pentaholics sane.

WOW, just wow someone who doesn't have a clue to the Wizzard of Oz or that they condensed a 2 hour movie from the late 20's/early 30's(?) starring Judy Garland into an 8 minute clip using popular songs. I guess you have never seen The Wiz, a 1978 remake, which starred Michael Jackson and Dianna Ross. This is hard to wrap my head around. The visuals/references flew over your head, but the musical observations were spot on.

Nicole is un-friggin'-believable in it, and Todrick is, as usual, a genius, but it's ... well ... rather extreme. Though not as much as "Wrong B!tch!," I suppose. Nicole brought it up because it's from Todrick's "Straight Outta Oz" album in which every single song in some way links back to "The Wizard of Oz," though that link might be a little hard to discern, sometimes. But every damn song on that album is brilliant, and more than one just WRENCHES tears out of me. "Over the Rainbow" is really, really good at it.

LOL! Most of the comments are going to be about how you didn't recognize The Wizard of Oz. (Ahhhs - get it?) The original source material is from a series of children's books by Frank L. Baum published from 1900 to 1920. "The Wizard of Oz", the film adaptation of the first book, came out in 1939, starring Judy Garland. Every one of its characters have become pop culture icons and its signature song "Over The Rainbow" is considered a classic. There have been numerous sequels/adaptations/re-interpretations including the The Wiz (1978, with Diana Ross and Michael Jackson) and the hit Broadway musical Wicked. Add The Wizard of Ahhhs to this list. At some point, you should check out Todrick Hall's OTHER Oz-inspired work - his semi-autobiographical visual album, Straight Outta Oz, which uses original songs to tell his own life story using Oz themes. It's a brilliant opus that's severely under-rated, imo. Here's the link to the full 70 minute visual album on Todrick's channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ap64hKp-na9psKM Each of the songs is also posted to his channel in separate videos if you want to do a reaction series. Featured guest artists on various tracks include the Trio from PTX, Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls), Jordin Sparks, Amber Riey, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shoshana Bean, Raven Symoné and Tamar Braxton. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Outta_Oz

With Kirstie's name, it's both/either, but for simplicity her legal one is Kirstin.

As long as you get I before R, Kirsten/Kirstie doesn't matter much, and KEER- vs. KUR- isn't really a major issue either. Just pick one and stick to it, without backtracking or apology. :)

@@DelGuy03 Actually, KEER vs. KUR DOES matter to her. That's why she always says "It's Kirstie, rhymes with thirsty. You're thirsty for Kirstie!"

I think you’re SOOOOfocused on your niche and dissecting the production that you’re not allowing yourself to take in the aesthetics. The word play and song choices reflect the individual characters and their unique journey. While appreciate the break down of what I’m hearing, and I’ve heard hundreds of times at this point, you’re complete lack of understanding of the content your breaking down makes this, IMO, my least favorite video you’ve done. And to the people defending his lack of understanding, keep doing that. There’s nothing wrong with it. I’m just kind of disappointed in the singular and hyper-focused dissection of the video itself.

I suppose you've been raked over the coals about not recognizing this as a take-off on the classic Judy Garland movie, "The Wizard of Oz," 1939. It was adapted from the book by Frank L. Baum, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Take heart, you aren't the first reactor to have no idea of the plot or characters. The Trio are all musical theatre nerds, so despite being so young, they were still familiar with this timeless story. If you watch the movie, you'll see so many of the fabulous references they're making. It's genius,

Overly technical breakdown and reaction, missing the entire point of the video. Kind of cringe, really. Your statement that you wondered if there was a story line made my butt pucker.

Your cultural illiteracy is showing, Jacob! Anybody born even into the eighties would immediately recognize "The Wizard of Oz," the fabulous MGM magnificent film (1939), the year in which the film industry produced so many films that have become a part of our collective unconscious. I feel like having a Cher moment, slapping you across the face, saying, "Get over it!" (Another film reference that I hope you haven't missed!) Anyway, I was born long after the Wizard of Oz, but it was a Christmas Eve special year after year, at least into the nineties. Now, imagine that you would have understood this from the second frame, imitating the slight flicker noise of old movies and the musical phrase from "Over the Rainbow," go back through your comments with the underlying knowledge and discover how lame you sound here. Of course you can't know everything, but there are about 100 movies from the first fifty years of the art form that have been woven into the culture. My niece went back to college recently and signed up for a class covering exactly this kind of famous flick. Hey, I love you anyway, you have a great attitude and make astute observations almost all the time. It's why I watch your reactions. You just missed it here.

you have several thousand subscribers. I dont get it. I have tried to watch several of your videos. you are more concerned about trying to explain certain things than enjoying the song and many of the things are boring and uninteresting. Not my cup of tea. Well good luck and on to the next
